Making my way through iron fist 2 currently. so far it's way better than the first, much more fast paced. I do wonder how many time they can say immortal iron fist per episode though, like did they have a competition or something?

I attempted to belatedly get into The Expanse as it disappears from Netflix next weekend. Ugh. Someone has told me it gets better, but I feel no reason to persevere, nothing grabbed me about it at all.
I'm about 5 episodes into Luke Cage season 1, and I'm finding it a bit mixed. A couple of good episodes, generally well made, but also kind of predictable and Luke has nothing like the personality of Matt or Jessica. Misty is probably the most likable character in it.

Someone has told me it gets better, but I feel no reason to persevere, nothing grabbed me about it at all. How far did you get? I was in two minds during the first episode, but stuck with it as I quite like lower-tech level SF and it isn't something that we get much of on television. But if a show isn't doing anything for you, then it isn't doing anything for you. At the moment almost everyone I work with has been watching "Bodyguard" and I found the trailer so unengaging that I couldn't summon the energy to even bother. I found Luke Cage S1 a bit of a mixed bag. There was some really good stuff in there, and also some stuff that doesn't quite work. When it works, it works really well - and they have successfully built on a lot of that stuff for Season 2, but it did get off to a bumpy start. Iron Fist, which was cursed by a troubled production and a very rocky season one, I thought picked up hugely for Season 2 though. The solid cast that they had for Season 1 was given much more interesting stuff to do, the rocky fight choreagraphy that blighted S1 was much improved for the second, and in general it was all a much tighter show. Highly enjoyable. (Alice Eve was also a fantastic addition to the cast - putting in a great performance.) I'm currently working my way through RWBY, an animated series from Rooster Teeth that I stumbled into at the beginning of the week. Thoughts on that once I polish off Season 2 during this coming week. Karl

In theory I thought I would like it based on the kind of SF it is, but in practice I found almost nothing to like at all! It may sound a bit harsh, but my watching time is so limited (hence still early part of S1 of Luke Cage) that a show has to grab me more quickly than that.

The first 52 episodes of Steven Universe are on Netflix, when did that happen?
Eh, who cares. No more dodgey watching.

I had that with Voltron. Watched 5 episodes, forgot about it for about six months then watched episode 6. Keep forgetting to watch episode 7.
I liked what I saw. The problem is that I am so unused to watching TV these days that I forget about it unless it is Star Trek or Doctor Who!

I don't mind them disappearing, what I do mind is the lack of info on said service alerting customers to when things are going.
Amazon Prime does at least have that though the interface is so clunky I found that menu only once!!!

It may sound a bit harsh, but my watching time is so limited (hence still early part of S1 of Luke Cage) that a show has to grab me more quickly than that. Not harsh at all. There is a huge array of things to watch, and little time to watch them. (My own average is an hour of television a day or thereabouts). The onus is on a show to grab an audience and give them a reason to come back, not on the audience to be patient whilst a show jitters about and gets its house in order. I can't blame anyone for bailing out of a show if they can't see a reason to stay with it. If one isn't getting anything from a TV show then the correct thing to do is move on to one from which they are. (I came very close to the line of doing that with Jessica Jones S2. I found myself forced to ask myself going into the last third whether the stuff I was enjoying was enough to compensate me for a main plot I found more than a little ponderous and unengaging. In that case the answer was yes, but if it hadn't been then I'd almost certainly have noped out for the rest of the season and come back whenever the next season aired)/ Karl

I disagree. I think it's bad market strategy *not* to tell customers when content is leaving. If I knew something on my watch list was going I'd make a point of watching it. Knowing that anything can vanish at anytime actually discourages me as a customer from watching as much as I used to. I don't want to start watching a show only to find one day it has gone without warning before I could watch it all.
I knew films could vanish when I signed up but was unaware the same applied to TV shows. I don't bother starting on shows I haven't seen on there now for this reason. I only keep the account open inbetween new Star Trek shows because my folks also use it.
I don't think it's asking much to have an 'ending soon' category. If Amazon Prime can do it then so can Netflix. Customers shouldn't have to jump through hoops to find out if show X is staying or going anytime soon before they decide if they want to watch it. Not everyone knows how to search the internet to find out what is falling off Netflix.
As streaming services increasingly begin to pop up and become more of a 'norm' in the TV landscape it will be interesting to see what survives. I'm certainly fascinated to see what effect the Disney service will have on other streaming services. Potentially a juggernaut there!

yeah Disney is a big issue although Netflix's biggest watch counts come from their original content so I'm sure they'll be fine.
The problem with the strategy mate is that a lot of Netflix's incentive based deals mean that pay to companies comes from the amount of viewers and the TV Series are always have a drop off or lack of viewers if advertised when they are leaving. as you say you aren't gonna invest time in something that might go, therefore the production companies would lose money and thus increase Netflix's prices for it, meaning they can't take the risk currently.
Amazon have different deals in place as they can actively sell the DVD's/boxsets so in that instance it makes sense for them to have ending soon as they can make more money from people picking up the series once its come off Prime, so its very different and not as simple as if Amazon can Netflix can, they actually have incredibly different market deals and target audiences.
Although it discourages you, the vast majority will still just pay for it regardless so from that aspect it doesn't lose them customers.(you still pay for your folks!!) but it might lose them companies who work with them.

Gah!! Iron Fist has been cancelled. I really enjoyed season 2 and after the post(or pre) credit tease was absolutely on board for season 3.
Im going to cling to the hope this isnt so much a cancellation as it is a realignment and we'll see Heroes for Hire and or Daughters of the Dragon because Cage and Fist seasons 2 felt like they were heading in that direction anyway.

Yeah, it is a pity. It felt like the show found its feet with S2, and I really liked the status quo that they were setting up for a third season. Ah well, those are the breaks. I enjoyed what we got in the second season, I'd have liked more but if it isn't doing the right numbers then it isn't doing the right numbers. Two years of a variable Iron Fist series is better than no Iron Fist series at all. (I've wanted a Daughter's of the Dragon/Night-Wing Investigations show since the Netflix shows put both actresses together in the same scenes - I'd happily go that if they wanted/were able to do it. Honestly, I'd take that in preference to any more Daredevil they might decide to do at this point). Karl

I think Daredevil and Jones are here to stay as long as Netflix keeps making Marvel shows.
I do wonder how long that will be though now that Marvels on demand service is getting nearer. I know Netflix say they can continue as they are, but I wonder if they'll be limited in what new characters can be brought in or something to make production more hassle than its worth.
As far as Im aware the Netflix shows are the only ones that wont be under relatively direct control of Disney(Agents, Runaways and Cloak and Dagger all being on platforms wholly or partly owned by the mouse) which I cant help but feel will hurt them eventually.
Or maybe Disney will be happy to keep a small batch of more grown up shows out there.

My feeling is that with their own on-demand service, Disney won't want any rivals making shows about their IP

Depends how they want to target the service. If they're going for family friendly, they may be okay with the Netflix shows staying where they are to separate them.

Finished Luke Cage S1 at last - what took me < 2 weeks each for Daredevil and Jessica Jones has been going on for as many months! It's well made, and there are some great performances and compelling supporting characters but it just hasn't grabbed me at all like the first two did.
It comes to life a bit more when Diamondback shows up - he's completely OTT but he injects some intensity and unpredictability into the show. Even then it loses it a bit, and the final episode is a bit predictable and almost dull.
Given how much more people seemed to like this than Iron Fist I'm almost tempted to skip the next one, but I'll give it a few episodes at least...
