How does Shadow on the Wall sound the same as Portsmouth?! If you've ever spent any time in Portsmouth you would know that it is exactly like spending time in the shadow on a wall... Like a shadow on the wall... Shadow on the wall...

I've spent far too much time in Portsmouth.
However, I've found with the advent of the internet it has become less necessary to actually visit shops so I've been getting away with it for the last few years!

I can't remember what the Ommadawn excerpt is, I hope it is the bit about horses I don't have that particular compilation, but there is an Ommadawn excerpt of the same track length on the 2012 one, which is just the beginning of Part 1.

Right, as there's nothing better to do in the world this afternoon, let's have suggestions of Mike Oldfield tracks that don't sound like Tubular Bells to help further Ralph's listening.
First up: Shadow on the Wall

No, this was the original reworked slightly by Oldfield to work with a visual interpretation. Don't know if you'd describe it as dance, gymnastics or acrobatics. Mixture of all three I think but amazing to watch. The music is performed live by a nine piece band led by one of Oldfield's touring team of old. Like watching the ultimate Oldfield tribute band.
What's sad is that in the programme notes written by Oldfield he suggests very strongly he will not be performing live again for Tubular Bells' 50th anniversary in 2023. This 'experience' is touring the world for the next two years to cover that. It was really impressive to watch but not really the real thing.

I'd seen this "experience" being advertised, but didn't have much interest since Oldfield wasn't going to be there - and also because I still don't want to travel that deep into England right now. So I'd been hoping we might see something more from him. But it's also not that surprising since, as I understand it, he's not doing great financially and just doesn't want to leave the Bahamas. Which is a shame.
