That's very tempting, but not tempting enough to make me venture away from the safety of Glasgow. If Oldfield himself was going to be present I'd be more tempted, but I'm guessing he can't afford to leave the Bahamas these days, and it wouldn't be worth his while financially to do so. Which is a shame. And not just because they're also doing Ommadawn Part 1. at that concert, which *needs* Oldfield on guitars. Fortunately I have heard him perform it (although, alas, not at Knebworth in 1980) so not such a big thing. But still, for those that can make it, that's certainly a worthy addition to the line up.
Of course, the big question is: Do they not know how to count to 50..?

"safety" and "Glasgow" aren't two words you usually find together....

Wow. I love the way the intro gets the venue wrong. Festival Hall, not Albert Hall. I'd be hard pushed to buy this even if it got a UK release. I saw it live, nice enough, but basically a few of Oldfield's touring band plus some impressive dancing. Don't think I need to see it twice.

Yeah, I'd only be interested if Oldfield himself was involved, and he seems to have basically retreated from the world at this point...

He's only in his sixties. Just. A mere stripling. I don't think he's ever really liked performing live. He did in the 70s/80s but the last time he performed live in the UK was 1999.

Well, technically 2012, when he performed at the opening ceremony for the Olympics.
But, blimey, was Then And Now that long ago? Blimey.

Haven't quite felt the need to buy the 50th Anniversary version of Tubular Bells, since I already have too many versions of the original Tubular Bells anyway (at least three) and I can't really ever hear the difference with "new audio mixes", mostly because I tend to only get the chance to listen to music whilst working at my computer these days.
But I have, however, listened to it on Spotify. Because I am a bad person. I may yet have to get the album just for the Olympics Opening Ceremony track, which I just like. But I also wanted to hear the opening to the proposed Tubular Bells IV, before he gave up on it. And... I'm kind of glad he did. What's there doesn't sound particularly interesting or to have much point to existing, aside from maybe showing what Tubular Bells would be like if he'd added Return to Ommadawn style guitars and production to it. But that's it. So I'm not that sad we'll never be getting it.
Of course, that said, the Early Stages version of Sentinel is nothing like the one that eventually showed up on Tubular Bells II, so maybe the final Tubular Bells IV would've been very different. But I think I like it better that we'll never know now...

I'd no idea about that but looking at the track listings on the sleeves it seems the mixes on this release are the original 1973 ones but from 'half speed' masters whatever that might mean. I think you're right, we've had so many mixes of the original now I don't think I'd be able to tell any of them apart. I will listen on Spotify too and see if the additional tracks are worth the outlay. Annoyingly it seems the vinyl has more tracks than the CD, and Spotify has different tracks again. Of the two trapped on the vinyl, Mike Oldfield's Single is obviously not something new and was on the Deluxe 2009 CD anyway, and the other one - Tubular X - I seem to have on a bootleg rarities disc. Oh right, the tracks are all explained here: allabouttherock.co.uk/mike-oldfield-tubular-bells-50th-anniversary-edition/There's a limited ed Blu-Ray too which has dolby atmos mixes on but is already silly money. Don't need that!
