The last one was sooooo good. Just didn't deserve to bomb like that with multiple he man's in every wave. Yeah, the first dvd set was out recently and I've been watching it and wanting to get the figures I missed out on but then reminding myself that I don't need anymore toys. And then they announce this line. So I might get an Evil Lyn if they do a decent one.

The assortments were better over here in Mattel's last attempt- they always do it with action figures. They put in loads of the main character and hardly any of anyone else- Batman, Superman Returns and Cars being good examples, although after about 15 waves they finally eased off on putting 12 Lightning McQueens and Maters in each box of 30 figures. But I digress.
If memory serves, the US case assortments contained 6 figures- two each of two He-man variants and one each of two of his mates, or four Skeletors and two random villains if it was a "bad guys" case. European cases had two of one He-man/Skeletor variant, one of another, and three assorted heroes or villains. It wasn't much, but it made a hell of a difference.
The new figures do look ace- King Grayskull is a chap I never expected to see, and it'd be nice to see the characters get decent plastic representations even if I have no interest in buying them.

I think something that contributed to the demise of the last series was that there wasn't enough articulation for today's children. Looking at King Grayskull's legs, it seems that has been addressed. (Ironically, this series isn't aimed at children.)
I got all the main characters in the last series - exclusives aside - so I daresay won't be rushing to get that many of these. It' good to see Mattel are still keen to back the series, though.
Who is King Grayskull, anyway?

Here's his wikipedia entry - which is surprisingly accurate!
King Grayskull is a fictional character from the 2002 version of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. In the 2002 remake of He-Man, it is revealed that Castle Grayskull was once home to King Grayskull, an ancestor of Prince Adam. He appears in the Episode, "The Power of Grayskull", waging battle and ultimately defeating the Snakemen led by King Hiss. He triumph was shortlived and he would die defending his kingdom from Hordak. During his lifetime, King Grayskull ruled with wisdom and compassion. Upon his death, King Grayskull transferred his power into the sword which now forms the basis of He-Man's power, thus the transformation cry "By the power of Grayskull!", at least in this version, refers to the king, not the castle. His wife, Queen Veena, became the original Sorceress and his advisers became the Council of Elders. King Grayskull's character design was originally an early prototype for He-Man himself. The producers liked it enough that they decided to use it for King Grayskull. Whereas He-Man rides the green tiger Battle Cat, King Grayskull rode a giant green lion. King Grayskull was voiced by Cam Clarke, He-Man's voice actor for the 2002 series.

I could be tempted with these I picked up a few of the MOTU line when it came back out and they were pretty darned good.

Ah, right, season 2. I didn't see that. Though I think I have them all recorded on video.

They were, indeed. In fact, when I get around to it, I'm going to have a good clearout from the attic; I plan on getting rid of most of my 1980s MOTU but keeping all the revived series.

What struck me more than anything else was how much cooler Man at Arms was compared to his 80's incarnation. Which I owned as a kid.

If there's anything to rival my love for Transformers, It's He-Man. A King Grayskull would look great on my telly.

King Grayskull's appearance was one of the few season 2 episodes I actually caught, and for some reason I never got round to looking up more despite the first season ending on an Agenda-part-3-you-no-longer-exist level cliffhanger. He looked like an interesting character in his own right, and Hordak was played up as a dark wizard with apocalyptic dreams rather than a shape-shifting pig-man housesitting for Horde Prime. Anyway, hooray for King Grayskull. May he be merely the first of many.

On he-man.org, fellwo working on the new line has this to say: 'everyone who had furry shorts gets furry shorts. It can’t be a MOTU Classics line without the furry shorts.' Hurrah! www.he-man.org/-Ralph

Series is for Mattel's online store onlyBoo. I'm a lot less likely to check the line out of I can't see them in the plastic. And King Grayskull not available outside US due to mind-boggling electronics. Double boo. -Ralph (unhappy)

Can't be sold outside the USA because of electronics? I expect to see plenty on eBay with sellers claiming quite the opposite.

True.
I shake my head at how Mattel is selling the new line. Didn't they learn their lessons last time? Sigh.

Well, the most important lesson last time was "don't put four of the same character in cases of six figures and especially don't have the same bloke four times in every wave". A glance at the first wave of Dark Knight figures (11 Batmen, 1 Scarecrow and no Jokers) suggests they have not.

Well it is Mattel.
Honestly, I want the new he-man line to do well, but one figure a month limited to one online store...I think it will be dead within a year. No passing trade, no impulse/nostalgia buys, etc. I thought it would be a niche line what with no media backing it, but even so. I had hoped to pick up a few but this is ludicrous.
I am rather keen on the King Grayskull with castle figure, but it's not available to buyers outwith US from the Mattel site.

Not impressed with what they've shown so far. Much preferred the 2002 line, but I was never a fan of the original He-Man stuff.

That did have the benefit of being an SDCC exclusive. The next few figures will determine if the line has legs.

Yeah, I'm interested to see how the line does when the big figures like King Grayskull are out there, and we're left with the Modulok's and Leeches.

Modulok is awesome. I still weep bitter tears that he never had his own spin-off show. It would have been mindblowing. Modulok's 11. You just know he would have had crazy crime capers.

I still prefer the look of the 2002 line myself although I might get a Classics Trapjaw on release. Speaking of MOTU, I scored myself a Smash Blade He-Man (or Player 2 He-Man as I prefer to call him) today. I also made a little blog about it here: Figured Out Oct 21 Edition

I've still got a few carded 2002 MOTU figures if anyone wants to make me an offer on some. No clue /what/ I have though till I get home.
