I'm curious why everyone is buying this series, given that most of us own previous reprints of the comic. What are the main reasons that people here subscribe to the series or buy specific issues? Is it the extra commentaries, better paper quality, hardcovers, or something else? I already own most of the series in floppy and paperback edition, so don't feel a strong urge to buy every issue. So far, I've limited myself to #1 for the poster, #3 for the newly coloured comics, and #5 to replace my missing War Within paperback. Besides the odd trade I dont have any of the marvel stuff outside the orignal issues/collected comics. I only have a few issues of Dreamwave and probably havent even read most of the run. And from IDW I have almost nothing in physical form since before All Hail Megatron. throw in the coloured UK strips and it seems like a good way of gathering almost everything in one place.

I havent had a chance to sit down and read mine yet and besides nothing to compare too. Are the IDW reprints having any quality control issues like the marvel stuff?
I can live with the Marvel UK stuff not being perfect Im not getting rid of the original issues any time soon, but these are currently the only versions of IDWs material I plan on having in physical form. If they are low quality it really would be something to make me question the value of the whole series.

Micromasters in the back of the Dreamwave ongoing 7-10 book maybe? Assuming it's only going to have the G1 content from the Summer Special in it, that'll be only just over 4 issues worth of content, and these books have gone up to 8. Or they're going to be like "Fuck Micromasters, fuck Micromasters in the ear" Interesting tweet from John-Paul Bove the other day indicating that Soundwave is going to be purple in some of the B&W stories:
So to recap, in the US stories where Soundwave was originally intentionally purple he is now blue (except where IDW messed it up). But in the UK stories where, if they had been done in colour at the time he would have been blue, he will sometimes be purple. To visually tie in to the stories where he is now almost always blue. Simples. Mind, off the top of my head, I can't think of any obvious B&W stories with Soundwave in that would be US tied enough to require Purple rather than Blue.

But...Soundwave was blue in the UK stories!

I suspect this is going to be an issue where John-Paul does not see eye to eye with a lot of people.

Soundwave is a BG character in a story which follows immediately on from a US one.

Soundwave is a BG character in a story which follows immediately on from a US one. which one is that? I can only think of Survivors, Devil and Deathbringer as being tied in. I can understand the logic behind what JPJ is doing, but my heart would want to see the UK strips coloured as if they had been originally. There was never any intent when they were being made that they'd be coloured in the US style, after all. Will strips like Big Shutdown and the Carnivac stories keep their original UK reprint colours or will they be redone in the us style (I mean, Big Shutdown has more call to being linked to the US comics than most)

There was never any intent when they were being made that they'd be coloured in the US style, after all. This is pretty much how I see it. It seems like needlessly messing around with the colours when there's no need to try and unify everything. I don't know. it might be that that's what's been mandated from higher up, but it, like trying emulate the US style colouring, still doesn't sit right with me.

Big Shutdown and Way of the Warrior will use the versions that were already coloured back in the day. The story JP specifically refers to with Soundwave is Fallen Star, so Starscream will walk past him in a corridor and that's it. When we reach the Decepticon Civil War stuff I imagine JP will do the traditional blue Soundwave. He hates the purple one, and I actually had to argue for his one-panel use in the Regen finale.

So the next book is "The Iron Fist", not The Legacy Of Unicron as listed in Previews, according to Hachette's own page. Anyone know what that is likely to be? The volume appears to be 31 maybe? I feel I've seen that image of Prime before but couldn't say where.

That's the second one they've subbed at the last minute. Perchance To Dream was in Previews as well before it was swapped for Wanted: Galvatron Dead Or Alive.
Shame, as I was looking forward to Legacy, but maybe they've realised they're releasing too many of the Marvel ones up front so there's only going to be a massive chunk of IDW left by the end? And this is only the second Dreamwave book published so far.

The only problem with this one is that the colouring is too heavy & you can't make out most of the art, would be better in B&W.

There was a black and white digest of the crossover released back in the day. Suffered from the crap print job that DW Pockets had though.

Wasn't the black and white digest actually a greyscaled version of the coloured pages? I'd imagine that was even harder to make out.

IDW did that for the first 3 series which made it hard to read Stormbringer.

Some of the DW Pockets (and IDW B&W digests) were greyscaled but the Joe/TF one was the proper black and white uncoloured art. I used to have a copy. Forget what I did with it. -Ralph

Hey, maybe IDW could do a black and white version of the colour black and white strips?

Isn't that James' intention for the UK classics? Keep the B&W strips as is?

Who knows but I would like to see the strips in black and white at not a tiny size personally.

I cancelled my subscription after 9/10 arrived with the bookends.
They sent me Warhammer bookends.
I can't say that I am overly impressed from them, so happy enough to stop now.

Have to admit I'm wavering. Was 100% ready to cancel my subscription and add them to my weekly folder with the newsagent in town. But when I've had damaged books, Hachette have always replaced them no questions asked. Worried that if a dodgy copy turns up my local newsagent might not be so sympathetic with me being picky over bumped corners and dented spines, friendly and helpful though they usually are. Better the Devil you know and all that.
