The frustrating thing is that there are actually loads of hotels nearby. Probably nearly as many as where near the Holiday Inn. And like the Holiday Inn, The Hilton is about the midprice range. The problem is that when the NEC closes trying to get past it or across the train lines to where most of the other hotels are becomes much longer and more difficult. Its a maze of winding roads with all the shortest routes shut off. If they haven't already TFN could really do with sorting out a detailed guide with the most direct walking (and probably driving routes) to all the local hotels for both during the day, when the NEC usually provides an easy short cut, and for nights when it doesnt. People really shouldn't be put off from attending or being able to stay late just because they cant get in to the Hilton. There's a nearby Premier Inn which I stay in for the UK boardgame convention [held at the NEC and Hilton] which still has rooms for a decent rate. It's not over the train tracks, and is about a 10 minute walk from the Hilton around the NEC [or through the carparks]. I'd recommend booking there if folk are still looking for rooms, postcode is B40 1QA.

I stayed at the Premier for the last AA. It's actually adjacent to, not part of, the NEC campus, which meant having to climb over a wooden fence. Maps of the NEC tell you to take a taxi rather than walk, presumably for that reason. But a late night walk through the car parks is lovely: very peaceful and I saw rabbits, hedgehogs and a fox. They have all-you-can-eat breakfast, but it's nowhere near as much choice as the Hilton.
In related news, guess who'll be selling at TFNation this year, and guess who'll be accompanying him?

I've bought the family a Saturday only ticket this year, and booked in to the hotel for the friday night. It's not my ideal choice but it's so much easier to be at the hilton, and it's just so expensive this year.

Transmission_Initiated Transmission ID: 00011 TFNation_2018 Operation: A Handful of Voices The second voice actor that TFNation is proud to present for 2018 hails from the land of the early 2000s, and the series that some will argue is called Car Robots, when we all really know it as Robots in Disguise (2001) - please join us in welcoming the man behind Megatron, leader of the Predacons: Daniel Riordan! As well as voicing the purple leader Megatron, Daniel remained at the mic for the gold and white upgrade Galvatron, and is so far the only voice actor famous for lending his talents to a robot, jet, bat, two-headed dragon, giant flying hand, roadster, winged griffin, one-headed dragon, hydroplane, and an elephant, all while only really voicing the same character. In a fun twist, he also voiced Omega Prime, the combined form of Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus and leader of the Autobot side, opponent and eventual vanquisher of Galvatron in the final episode of the series. In other Transformers appearances you may recognise, Daniel was behind the 2007 videogame based on the Paramount live-action series, and specifically, the Decepticon characters of Bonecrusher and Shockwave. He has also been involved in several videogame franchises as secondary and additional character voices, with the likes of Final Fantasy XIII, Mass Effect III, Age of Empires III, Skyrim, and more. On screen, both big and small, he is well known for his roles in Dreamgirls, Jingle All The Way, The Adventures of Captain Zoom in Outer Space, and a brief presence in Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Wild Thornberrys. Daniel Riordan will be present all of the TFNation 2018 weekend, signing autographs, available for quick photo opportunities, and eager to meet fans of his work and of Transformers in general! If anyone is after a room for the Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights I can help, as I managed to secure a double room as usual without having a room mate.

Transmission_Initiated Transmission ID: 00013 TFNation_2018 Operation: A Tale Of Two Tankors Adding another international name to the line up for TFNation 2018, this guest hails from the IDW Publishing comics section of the Transformers franchise, and is an author of several other media iterations of the transforming robots too – please welcome writer Mairghread Scott! Her writing credits, on the comics side, include the entirety of Windblade's story so far and one of the most charismatic Starscreams in robot history, as told in the pages of Transformers: Windblade volumes 1 & 2, and the fan-favourite sequel series Till All Are One. Scott was also co-writing the second IDW/Hasbro crossover event First Strike, and has been behind the Transformers Prime: Rage of the Dinobots and Beast Hunters mini-series. Working as assistant writer of animated series Transformers: Prime, Robots in Disguise and Rescue Bots, she has also directly contributed to bringing the character of Windblade into the animated universe too (in Robots in Disguise). You will find her work on several other animated series, such as GI Joe: Renegades, and most notably Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble, Guardians of the Galaxy and the upcoming Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors. Back in comics, Scott has published for some of the major publishers in the business, with the likes of Green Arrow (DC), Guardians of the Galaxy (Marvel), Wonder Woman (DC), and Power Rangers (Boom! Studios) on her resumé, and creator-owned projects such as Toil &Trouble (Boom! Studios), The City on the Other Side (First Second), and more. Her upcoming work will be seen in the pages of DC comics' Batgirl, starting with issue #25 in July 2018! Mairghread Scott will be present at TFNation 2018 all weekend, signing books, talking Starscream, raising dark stories, and talking to fans of her writing – including those still saddened by the end of Till All Are One. Car parking - you might have an extra £10 to pay. So don't park up before 13:00 on the Friday but you need to pay the extra £5 on top of the 2 days parking. £12 per day
Good Evening,
In reply to your email regarding charges for parking at the Hilton hotel : Residents of hotel pay £12.00 per 24 hours this starts at 13.00hrs on day of check in until 13.00 hrs the following day, if you park before this time you will be charged an EXTRA £5.00 the same goes if you are still parked after 13.00hrs on the day of departure, after 16.30hrs another £5.00 will be added, I hopes this answers your questions
Kind Regards
Susan Watts
