The last one came out very recently. Nine months is about right. But it at least confirms IDW will still be releasing Transformers books well past the end of the universe.

well past the end of the universe. In fairness, I think that this is a little much to ask - after all, several billion years of IDW trades might be a little tough to find shelving for... :-) Karl

Quite right. It's hard enough finding space as it is.

Should be about 90% of Megatron being in the new IDW Universe. But should Galvatron turn up & should he be a future Galvatron or like in IDW where he isn't. Galvatron might not show up.

Either option is fine. To be honest I dont much care what they do or dont do wih the reboot as long a its well written.
The only thing I dont much want to see again is the the timeline measured in millions of years. Just more hassle than its worth.

I agree there & made me think about a line form Dr Who - what if the Decepticons formed after coming to Earth? So going by the Dr Who line "you don't need to worry about monsters from space because the biggest monsters are here on Earth"

Could Hasbro have come up the with the clever idea that the comic can only feature the characters that are currently out in toy form? How it was back in the 80's.

In which case I hope it's Generations themed pre-Earth stuff and not focused on the Evergreen designs like everything else. It should be. Generations is the target market for the comics after all.

I would prefer the comics to reflect the kiddy lines.

Would be a big change. I mean that's not only changing the creative team behind the comic, but also the tone and target audience. If that's what they are intending it's a big jump. RiD wasn't a seller as a comic; if they replaced the current titles with a Cyberverse focused one they're asking a lot of their existing readership.

The existing readership have (almost) just got a 13-year run of comics aimed at them. I'd like to see the comics go back to being suitable for children again. It would also help differentiate a new approach. It would be pointless if whatever comes out after the current IDW Tf continuity ends is something that feels the same. Otherwise why reboot?
We shall see!

Looking at it from Hasbros point of view - they only have to bother running toy design for one line then a movie line. We know Hasbro like cutting costs & making profits. So if WFC ending up being Cyberverse follow on so they only have to design one line type. But then the comics would then be back to forced stories features the new toys out.

I was chatting with Kris Carter the other night. Once the IDW reboot kicks in - I want an all-ages friendly title again as a companion to whatever new main book that they do. I'd do it like their Star Wars Adventures book, not a strict continuity but spanning all the tales. It would be the perfect way to do a Sunbow continuation (as I think that would be better served as a mini-series) and then bounce around all the various Transformers continuities.

That would be good - but see when Marvel try doing it, they just end up ignoring them & the comic shops don't really bother with them. If those Marvel Ages comics are still going?

If Hasbro didn't want to stick with IDW - would they let them finish collections of work to the end of Unicron arc? (the HB phase 2 collections)

Short answer is they better! But then as IDW are starting a whole new continuity in September I'd imagine they'll have the rights for a while yet. Volume 8, out Dec, has everything up to Punishment:
More Than Meets The Eye issues #35-40, Transformers: Robots in Disguise issues #35-38, Transformers: Punishment, and Transformers: Drift - Empire of Stone.
I think Marvel's reprinting of all the Dark Horse Star Wars stuff shows it would come out somehow if IDW weren't to do it.

Also the one thing not one has mentioned so far. You remember when we had all that banning DW comics for sale in UK with some people saying that Panini didn't want people buying the DW Armada comic instead of the UK one - but it wasn't a reprint & I don't think Panini did cause a fuss with Hasbro. But if a UK comic reprint is being lined up to come out 6 months after the US one could something happen again. This isn't anything IDW can do anything about but their sales might go down.

Dreamwave's rights were for North America only, they did not have worldwide rights. That would have impinged on Pat's ability to buy a Ferrari.

I think Pat did alright with the Ferrari buying, not so much with the paying your staff though.

Is it confirmed anywhere that IDW are doing a new G1 series?

We don't know anything until we see a press release in August 2018. We don't know who's working on it but i'm guessing Guido was pulled from Wreckers to do character skteches.

Feels too early to me. The hype should be around the finale and the outgoing team at the moment. Revealing a new series would steal their thunder somewhat.

But if there is a new series it has to be announced before the current one finishes unless there is an extended break planned.

Who knows. I think a break makes sense. Build hype. Run with the movie stuff for now.

Who knows. I think a break makes sense. Build hype. Run with the movie stuff for now. I was assuming a break. But I think it depends - if it's linked to the toyline then they'd want it out asap and maybe why they seem to have pushed the schedule of the current stuff up.

Transformers vs Star Trek & Gobots mini series also suggests some breathing space before a big new ongoing TF comic starts. Few experimental mini series before a big new launch.

But if there is a new series it has to be announced before the current one finishes unless there is an extended break planned. I think they will give it time to settle - the Trek and GoBots thing will keep a space in the schedules. Makes sense, if you announce anything to do with the premise of the new reboot and creative team before the existing one ends - it does kind of overshadow things.

I think we're going to get comics set in same continuity as whatever happens with the movies, it will be one whole shared story. Maybe we'll get a stop gap thing until the next movie happens.
