Im stumped on who to vote for. Both are really really good, but in very different ways.

I did that too, but then it went from a base with little protection but plenty of space to return fire to a impressively defended base with little option for return fire. Well you could still have the rotating missile tower up, thanks to the little square hole in the trailer's roof. And you could put Ratchet and Ironhide's missile trailers in front of the barricade while their robot components stood behind the wall. And you could put Prime's rifle on Roller, pointing sideways and out. Quite a few options! Edit: And of course the trailer roof was Powerglide's runway. Best runway of any TF toy. Martin

I've always quite liked Rodimus's trailer...

I liked the OG Rodimus, but it's hardly a base though.

I've yet to see a Transformer toy that actually becomes a bonafide base or headquarters. Countdowns Rocket base was perhaps close, bit a real base needs a proper indoors.

Not a base, but a decent weapons station. Probably. I dunno, Rodimus' trailer isn't as good as Prime's but it feels more solid to me as a toy. I suppose I've never seen it as something others would use like Prime's repair bay. It's more like a personal... I can't even think of the word, storage space. It's a caravan, his office. Communications, defense. For him.
I don't know what I'm talking about.

The lack of any of the bases actually being bases is a constant source of frustration. Metroplex is pretty good, he at least has spaces to fit the minibots in.

Only the first wave of Gobots was released in the UK in G2, as you can see above there is a second repaint wave. Jim has some pictures of his Gobots here: tmukhub.proboards.com/post/334900/threadThe clear colour frames for wave 1 all have solid variations leading to 4 of the toys looking a little different at some points: see tmukhub.proboards.com/post/334921/threadTWO of these get new names and bios in the US: we will be revisiting them at a later date.

Axelerators and Skyscorchers following on from Turbomasters and Predators had tested my patience, but this is the year I lost all interest in the toy range, even from a distance, and they all blurred into a mass of stuff.

The Gobots were a blurry mess to me at the time, made worse by a second set in quick succession with colours that didn't match well with the names.
It's only later with their Spychanger incarnation that I encountered the Gobot - and I do tend to think of them more as Spychangers than Gobots - and then my interest was worn down quickly by repeated reuses. I do wish I'd paid more attention in 1995 now and that I'd grabbed some of the mad colour variants. The moulds are six really good simple small toys and Transformers always needs that as a foundation. They're one of the better set of Mini Autobot successors. And you can't really go wrong basing a toy round the G1 Sideswipe TF.
Some bits of 95 I still can't be bothered with. And yet in the middle of it is one of my favourite subgroups of all time and one of my all time favourite moulds.

They may have had quality, but all the originality and imagination was gone by this point... which made the sudden shock of Beast Wars, when it came, all the greater. It's like they were trying to lull us to sleep so that they could wake us up and shout "BOO! HAHAHAHAAA! Optimus PRIMAL! WOOOOO!"

I was already out of Transformers by the time Gobots hit, mostly because I thought I shouldn't be collecting toys at this point. But certainly when I saw these in Woolies it just seemed like an aimless mess to me, with nothing that really grabbed me. Having played with some since I can see now that they're actually pretty decent toys, but on the peg they did nothing to stand out.
Whatever the case, I'm going with Firecracker, since he's a translucent red sports car. Which is nice.

All of these use the same standard 1984 Sideswipe TF and all of these have their own original names. Some comparisons with older toys are inevitable though. Double Clutch tfwiki.net/wiki/Double_Clutch_(G2)#ToysThe Mirage comparisons are inevitable, thanks to being a race car whose car nose ends up on the robot chest. What is odd is it has never been repainted in Mirage's colours. This version gets the closest and then spoils is with the red nose. Feels slight in relation to the other Gobots Blowout tfwiki.net/wiki/Blowout#ToysReally can't decide if the clear plastic works or not here. Odd. TFWiki says it's a Porsche 959 like Nightbeat & Skystalker Blowout's clear plastic frame has a solid silver variation in Europe which is used as a different character in the US. Gearhead tfwiki.net/wiki/Gearhead#ToysAllegedly a NASCAR-style Ford Thunderbird. The bars over the window don't work for me and the deco is a little garish. Gearhead uses both the clear & clear red plastic frames on his robot mode so has a solid coloured variation for those parts in the US and Europe High Beam tfwiki.net/wiki/High_Beam#ToysOdd one this as it's first few version are nearly the same - black car shell, a shade of yellow for robot parts and guns - bar the paint spray that's gone on he car mode. Like the deco, probably my second favourite of the set Motormouth tfwiki.net/wiki/Motormouth#ToysIs this the first TF Pickup with an empty Flatbed? Nice set of colours, feels like he stands out from the set as something different. Motormouth uses both the clear & clear red plastic frames on his robot mode so has a solid coloured variation for those parts. Firecracker tfwiki.net/wiki/Firecracker#ToysIt's a clear red Lambo. It's all but yelling SIDESWIPE - oh if only I knew someone who could make the front of leg piece in black? The clear red has a solid red variant in Europe, which has some additional paint apps on the head. Like Blowout the variant is used as a different character in the US. EASILY MY FAVOURITE. WIN!

Like the metallic green myself.
For some reason these toys make me think of Liefield Cap.

Quick trivia: Gearhead's bar windows are mandated safety feature on NASCAR racers. They do a lot of bumping over here, so the crash structure has to be REALLY robust.
I've only really today realised how accurate all of these are in vehicle modes. Impressive!

I was thinking that the Robo Machine Headquarters was a pretty good attempt, but Grandus pretty much does the same (plus he turns into a proper robot. Except he doesn't have a robo-burger bar. Slight fail.
