I dislike pairing toys with their own repaints, but in this case needs must as pairing Optimus with Unicron, who also gave me grief, created problems elsewhere. In the end, Unicron provided his own solution to the problem.... Optimus Prime can combine with Jetfire and/or Overload The Micron Legend version of Optimus Prime is similar, swapping gold paint for yellow Op is repainted as Powelinx Optimus Prime in Aramada - Micron Legend's version was only available in the Magna Convoy Giftset with a clear Overload & Powerlinx Street Action Microns Optimus gets a Gold repaint in the KMart Battle for the Matrix set where he's packed with Powerlinx Jetfire, their Minions, the Adventure Team and Minicon Longarm all in their normal colours In Energon he's repainted again and packed with a yellow Overload

Aside from the colour changes between the two toys Sparkplug gets a remould into Corona Sparkplug And, YES Sparkplug is Bumblebee tfwiki.net/wiki/Sparkplug_(Armada)#NotesSo I guess that makes Corona Sparkplug Goldbug

I think I forgot to say I voted for Tidalwave.
At the time I only got Jetfire. I think between him and Prime I was really put off the larger toys so ended up skipping Megatron, Tidalwave, Scavenger, Overload and Red Alert.
(I did pick up the Takara release of Red Alert and it became maybe the first Transformer I ever bought new that I sold on, so so underwhelming)
As a result I passed on two of the better Armada line. Having said that Im still not blown away by Megatron. Tidalwave though is ace. I think Ramjet rising on to the deck sold me on it.

Powerlinx colours are a train wreck. Original for me

And then there was Prime. Yeah I want to like this guy It should be a fun toy along the lines of PMOP, but its just so fiddly and janky.
It also doesnt look great. Supercon Prime (and more recently) showed how nice this design can look. This version does not look good.
Not long after I eventually got regular Prime, Powerlinx Prime appeared at discount. And I really wanted to get it because it was cheap and I liked the colours more, but I didnt because one of the mould was more than enough. But I was annoyed with myself for not holding off on the original. Id probably be a lot fonder of the mould if Id got the Powerlinx for half what I paid for the original.

Powerlinx colours are a train wreck. Original for me Cab robot looks good, trailer and cab look good. Combined mode not so great, but I still prefer it over all the dull grey.

Supercon Prime (and more recently) showed how nice this design can look. This version does not look good. Did you mean "and more recently Legacy Commander Armada Optimus Prime"? The problem with Superbase Op is it's completely built around the gimmick of the trailer TF being automatically controlled from the Cab TF. I seem to recall it was somewhat temperamental and didn't always work quite right. My suspicion is it's there because Bandai had done something similar two years before in Timeranger with the remote controlled transform on the V-Rex which became Time Force's Quantasaurus Rex. There the remote control was a wrist mounted device - I can see Hasbro looking at that and thinking "we can do that but build the remote into a Transformer" powerrangers.fandom.com/wiki/Quantasaurus_Rex

It does nicely illustrate why we try to keep the repaints of toys separate
In a few weeks we'll have a couple of boxsets containing a Superbase up against each other but there the additional contents are very different

I've never experienced the original of these; I have some regrets over not picking up the Powerlinx version when it was so, so cheap and ditto the Costco version when it was deep discounted in The Entertainer, though I'd often heard the toy didn't quite live up to its promise.
I think the classic colours work best overall, and definitely in super-mode, but the Powerlinx colours make for the nicest vehicle mode.
Will we see repaints of the really very good Legacy version? In some ways I hope so, but it could get expensive...

I think there is a difference between Sparkplug being a homage/nod towards to Bumblebee and actually being a Bumblebee...
Never owned either tou here, but slightly prefer the colours on the repaint so it gets my vote.

Had both, Powerlinx gets my vote, that's a nice colour scheme, agree a bit too much red on the combined mode lower legs, but the wee cab looks the business in those colours.

Powerlinx Cab and Robot are a bit too Nemesis Prime for me I believe at one point it was going to be Nemesis Prime: tfwiki.net/wiki/Optimus_Prime_(Armada)/toys#References

Going to have to be a boring and predictable traditionalist and vote for the original Armada Prime, I'm afraid. The Powerlinx colours aren't *bad* as such, I just don't like them as much.
I ended up getting this from America via a friend who went out to visit her boyfriend's parents quite regularly, so also got it ahead of its UK release, and for a lower price, which was nice. I managed that for a few years, until she ended up leaving her boyfriend for me, and stopped going to the US as a result. Which seems to be a pattern for me - getting together with someone and thereby completely nullifying their usefulness as a toy courier. I need to get my priorities right...
But anyway, yes, it's not a perfect toy, this, but I appreciated that they tried doing something different. And fun. Kid me would have *loved* this.

I'm going to surprise myself here and go Powerlinx. I've never looked at them side by side before, but the red and silver just look fab. The arrangement of the colours across the supermode just look better organised than the original.

This thread is costing me money. Well, a bit. I got a junker Super Prime trailer off eBay yesterday for the bargain price of £4.66. Just the core of the trailer without the fold out tower pieces. I'm hoping I can either take bits from it to replace the yellowed parts on the one I have, or put all the removable pieces from the one I have onto that. If the electronics still work.
This is all because although I have a complete and boxed Takara version, this poll has made me realise the colours on the Hasbro one are actually better and I have a knackered one of those hanging around in a junk box donated to me years ago.
Next I'll need to find a junker robot with an intact left arm to replace the gps infested broken arm on my otherwise fine one.

Finishes TOMORROW!
So the plan originally was to push on from here in Armada's repaints
You can blame messers Burns & Keiran for us making time for what was a one week diversion
Blame my OCD for it becoming two
After that Armada repaints, then Micron Legend.... although the line between the two is a little blurred thanks to there being two weeks with toys from both lines in

This puts even the Rescue Force to shame. And to think fans were screaming for Masterpiece Combiners, when this absolute gem existed all along.
