My heart says Superion, my brain says Bruticus...
I love the Aerialbots as a set of Autobot jets led by a Concorde, I so much wanted them when I was a kid. But the toys are a bit same-y.
Bruticus is much better from that point of view. As an adult he looks like the best one to me; but as a kid he was the one I wanted least (the only one I didn't own a component of, for that matter), and that little residual spark of magic is missing as a result.
Yep, I'm going for Superion.
(as I'm the first one voting apparently, this is probably the only time he will be ahead in this poll anyway!)

Right then, I have owned all of these.
Because the question asks which is the best combiner, we are talking about a big robot that splits into smaller transforming robots, or a team of small transforming robots that combines into a big robot. We are not talking about the big robot stuck as a big robot, because that's not a combiner.
If we were voting solely on the big robot, as if he was glued together and unable to separate, then Defensor would be the best. He's nice and sturdy and can turn his head. Bruticus would be second best. He looks great, and can also turn his head, but he falls over onto his back if you give him the gentlest tap. Menasor is uninspiring, and Superion is too spindly.
But as I'm voting on the combiner in all its combinery/separaty goodness, I'm voting for Bruticus. Despite not being quite so stable on his feet as Defensor, he separates into a better team. I can make myself believe in a space shuttle the size of a jeep more easily than I can believe in a motorcycle the size of a helicopter. The green space shuttle doesn't bug me as much as the blue fire engine. Onslaught is the best team leader with the best base mode. And we've got Swindle and a guy with a semi-automatic glue gun.

And let's see Bruticus with his hat on. Martin

Martin is spot on in his analysis. As said before, the Combaticons were the only team I had as a kid and seeing Bruticus combined still gives me a thrill to this day. He just feels more threatening than the others. Especially with his hat on.

All have strength 10, as you'd expect and very high endurance and courage (9 or 10) and firepower (8 or 9).
Defensor is the only one with decent intelligence and rank 6 where the others are rank 5.
Superion is the only one with decent speed.
Bruticus and Defensor have skill 8, Superion 7, Menasor 6.

I find Bruticus's Transformers Universe entry amusing. It says:

Some of that's a bit odd. I mean, how can Bruticus have skill 8 and intelligence 3? It doesn't make sense.

I think intelligence 3 is because he needs someone to give him orders and tell him what to do, but once he's been told he does it very skilfully.

Menasor! He looks the most uniformed (all his limbs being cars) and he is nice and sturdy with no bits falling off. He also wears his black bikini very well. A shame he is so small.

MENASOR
We all have our favorite SPECIAL TEAM don't we? The one that, for whatever reason, first touched our imaginations. Mine are the 'Evil Car Team', the perfect weapon against the Autobots. The 'Good Jet Team' works as well, but doesn't seem half as cool somehow. The other two teams are in many ways superior to 'all cars' or 'all jets', the Combaticons being the most fun looking (war vehicles- what else does a healthy boy need?). But still, in my heart, it has to been the awesome merging of the EVIL CAR TEAM!
Menasor also just looks really good. Uniform and ballanced. I never completed the G1 until adultness, but it is a superb fun collection of toys. The Combiner Wars version does not disappoint in my opinion (although he's very wobbly on his feet).

Same for me. I just like his chunkieness. Defensive a close second though. A green space shuttle is just a rubbish disguise as there are none (unlike blue fire engines ) so no to Bruticus. I love the design of Superion in the comics but the actual toy? Not so good.

OK....
So It's not Superion or Menasor, but due to any dissatisfaction with the individual toys. Both have features that annoy me: with Superion it's his wide stance and Menasor it's his box like body with the head just a mask on the head within the top of the body, instead of being a head on top.
Bruticus and Defensor are both leagues ahead of these two and for me Defensor just shaves it. The white on the lim,bs helps coherently bind it together.

A text msg received indicates someone has been forced to part with some money due to this week's subject ..... Good. Are we talking Japanese box sets? I am still struggling with the fact that Shockprowl is voting/arguing for Menasor whilst at the same time trying to get rid of him. Martin

And his bank manager. Although that Overlord is one mighty looking toy.
I might have just bought a Bruticus because this thread stirred up memories of my long lost original. Excellent condition with all accessories. I'm going to pretend this is my own one come back to me.
Still don't see how Blast Off won last week's poll though. He's great, but he's no Brawl.

I have my augmented Combiner Wars Menasor to play with. My poor G1 Menasor just sits in a box. He must be free... He must be free...

For me its Menasor, as he was and is the one I still covet (one day I'll get round to picking up a G1 Menasor). The boxiness of the original combined mode is strangely endearing and I still love the "evil Optimus" vibe you get from Motormaster being a black truck.
Runner up would probably be Bruticus as I do like the variety in the different bots alt modes. But Menasor also wins as he doesn't forget his hat.

HOW IS MENASOR WINNING?
I assume all the Defensor and Bruticus fans have been too busy at TFN to vote!
