Running short in the armoury?
And in the Autobot one.. "Hey, we just made this awesome new Land based Special Team. Now we gotta give them guns. What have we got?" "Err.. we have a bunch of light guns?" "Hmm. OK. That'll have to do. Let's add some kibble to them to make them look different."

Swindle for me. Always loved the toy and it's one of the few original Transformers from my childhood that survives to this day.

Yes, Baron B, I too have fond memories of Swindle as he was the only Combaticon I owned as a child. Although even back then I didn't like his waist-mounted shoulders, he's a great toy, and a great character.

Some odd values in there. Particularly Blastoff's low strength and endurance. Hmmm. Well, assuming that he transforms into something like the Nasa space shuttle that is a vehicle which carries almost no fuel inside (the vast majority of the fuel is in the external tank), and actually is fairly fragile in some respects (it is great at resisting temperature extremes, and standing up to pulling G, but like most air vehicles it is mostly made up of bits you aren't supposed to stand on, hit with wrenches and otherwise abuse) so it seems fair to me. I'm torn on Brawl's endurance actually. If it is supposed to reflect resistance to damage, well, he is an M1A1 - basically a lump of armour containing a big gun and an aircraft engine to push it along. If it is supposed to reflect actual endurance, the ability to continue operating...he's an M1A1, a vehicle whose fuel consumption is measured in gallons per mile, not miles per gallon... Karl

I love the fact that Vortex has a semi-automatic glue gun. I wonder what the Decepticon engineers were thinking when they decided to equip him with that rather obscure piece of equipment. Martin I suspect that they thought it might be safer than giving him a fully-automatic glue gun... Recipe for disaster that. Karl

Now, User 3, vote for Hotspot and push him over the finishing line!!! -Ralph ooops. I might have voted for Hotspot, or First Aid, though honestly Streetwise has probably always been my favourite.

Bruticus was the one complete Special Team I had as a kid. This will be difficult, they all had unique things that made them special.
Well obviously. Because they're a special team.
SPECIAL TEAMS!

I can’t call this one either. Shortlist is Swindle, Brawl and Blast Off. I have the complete team, never big on Onslaught and those helecoptor rotors were always a pain to store in my accessories box. Will think...

I have given this some thought. The ones I had as a child were Brawl and Vortex. They were both good but I really liked Vortex's gun and the way his arms were formed when transforming so he gets my vote. He also had the coolest name.

Darn, this is a tough one. I missed the Combaticons during my G1 years, and only came to them later on in RiD (where I managed to snag the whole team in one go between Big W and TRU), so I don't have any strong memories of one particular team member.
I reckon for me, it might be Brawl I'm drawn to. He looks great in both modes, but this is a really good team, with nice diverse modes.

Definitely Blast Off! Space shuttle is irresistable already, and no matter how "wrong" his colour scheme is it is so right. Military green but with that purple torso is such a nice contrast.

Even though many of the others are clearly better toys I'm voting Swindle. Not because he has the best personality of the Combaticons (which he does, but I didn't know that when I first saw the Special Teams comic) but because of his squat, blockish robot mode. Sometimes the 'odd looking' or 'naff' toys stand out to me in catalogues (like Ratchet, Firecons, Armada Sideswipe, original Rattrap etc) and that was the appeal that Swindle had when I first saw him. From his legs, he looks like he should have one of those old wind up walking mechanisms built in!

Brawl. There's something about that tank mode, and robot is adorably boxy.

Of the Combaticons I've only owned Blast Off and Swindle. I've owned all the moulds in later versions, but those are the only ones I've owned as Combaticons.
There are a number of good fun toys in this team - Brawl is great, as is Onslaught, but I think I'm going to have to give it to Swindle. The look, as some kind of military space-plane relative to the NASA orbiter, is great. I like the colour scheme and he has a fun transformation - the "put my hands together over my head to be a rocket" is basically the same as kids pretending to be a rocket! :-)
So, yeah. Blast Off takes my vote.
