I don't know who to vote for. Hotspot and Groove were my joint second transformers after Sludge. Streetwise was number 3 bought later on my birthday to allow Defensor to stand on a pair of legs. Blades and First Aid (along with Metroplex and others arrived a few months later for Christmas).

I think when it comes to these special teams I'm the anti-Phil; I'm a lot less interested in the Protectobots than I was with the Aerialbots, mainly, I think, because at the time they were revealed we'd had car-bots before. That was the Autobot thing. The Aerialbots were different, and thus interesting. As such, I find it hard to get excited about any of the team.
So... I'll vote for Hotspot. Because he's a blue fire engine and thus looks the most visually interesting.

Week 25: What is the best Combaticon on the UK Special Teams catalogue?

Post by Philip Ayres on Aug 10, 2018 5:35:50 GMT
OK....
Space shuttles should be white. If you want a green military flying limb, surely a jet would be better, albeit more on the Aerialbots territory.
Other than that 5 fine toys, several of which do interesting things with their vehicle mode weapons. These aren't just stick them on the back (Stunticons, First Aid/Streetwise). Vortex has his mounted in his body, Blast off's are on his wings, Swindle's turns on the back of his vehicle. Brawl has the most similar weapon to previous vehicles and even his pivots up & down.
It's a straight shootout between Brawl and Onslaught for me. We had both in 1986. Brawl was great, good and solid. Onslaught wowed me though with his carrier vehicle mode and his nearly plausible base mode which almost looks like a landing craft or half a bridge layer.
Onslaught.
Phil does not own any original Combaticons at the moment. When they were Encored he convinced himself that Baldigus, which he already owned, was enough. NICK.....
They've also been redone the most times: Operation Combination (as Battle Gaea alongside Guard City), G2 (alongside Superion), Car Robots, Robots in Disguise (they're different), a RiD urban/artic camo exclusive and a desert camo version in Universe 1!
Bruticus has lost his hat in the above picture!

I'll never understand why the quality control on transforming things properly before taking photos for toy catalogues is so poor.
Hmmm.
Not Blast Off because he's the wrong colour and has nowhere to mount his small gun in vehicle mode.
The others are all good. Brawl has nowhere to put his big twin gun in robot mode, but you can stand it on its own as a separate artillery piece.
Tempted to vote Vortex as his helicopter mode(s) are ace, but he can't hold his gun in robot mode properly and keep his arm straight, which was mildly annoying, and I've always preferred Swindle as a character. I never understood why Hound had to have a different gun in robot and jeep modes. Swindle can hold his jeep turret gun(s) in robot mode, which is quite satisfying. And the multiple articulation on his combined weapon in jeep mode - side-to-side on the big gun, up-and-down on the little gun attached to it - was good. Plus, I like Swindle's squat and stocky look in robot mode.
Onslaught is a fine Triple Changer, and if he was at the same price point as Swindle, he'd win, but I'm going to go with value-for-money on this one and give Swindle my vote.

Combaticons to scale (according to somebody). Onslaught and Swindle are about right relative to each other. Vortex and Brawl aren't too far off compared to each other. Why didn't they make the space shuttle the leader? Martin

Brawl and Onslaught are joint strongest (strength 8). Blast Off is the weakest (strength 3), despite being the biggest as a vehicle.
Swindle and Vortex have intelligence 9, Onslaught and Blast Off have intelligence 8. Poor Brawl has intelligence 2.
Blast Off is the fastest (speed 10), Onslaught the slowest (speed 3).
Brawl has the greatest endurance (9), Blast Off the lowest (3), though presumably he is very heat-resistant if he can survive re-entry.
Swindle and Vortex are joint second-in-command.
Brawl is the bravest, followed by Onslaught. Blast Off and Swindle are the least brave.
Blast Off has firepower 9, Brawl and Onslaught firepower 8, the others firepower 7.
Blast Off has skill 10. Onslaught and Swindle have skill 9, Vortex 8, Brawl 7.

I never had a problem with that, but maybe I never quite understood what a motorbike was I never had a problem with blast off's size. Space shuttles can be small! I can believe in blue fire engines, but not motorcycles the size of space shuttles. Martin

Another awesome Martin's Techspec Rundown!
Some odd values in there. Particularly Blastoff's low strength and endurance.
Yeah, Spaceshuttles and Motorcycles being the same size is a bit bonkers. But as far as Blastoff is concerned, I've always considered him just spaceshuttle looking.
They're a good looking team. A good mix of vehicles. Nice contrast to the all-evil-car Stunticons.

Swindle and Brawl clearly meant to have been new Hound and Warpath, making Vortex new Blades and Onslaught new Omega Supreme. Why was this team not Autobots??
Warpath/Brawl has my vote. A lovely little toy in both modes.

Scale-wise we've all got our own lines in the sand. But it never bothered me that Groove and Blast Off are the same size.
Not sure who to vote for here. Never had any Combat Rons as a child. The only one I'm not going for is Swindle. When I picked up the Encore release he was a real let down in robot mode. Shame, as his character model is pretty iconic.

Swindle and Brawl clearly meant to have been new Hound and Warpath, making Vortex new Blades and Onslaught new Omega Supreme. Why was this team not Autobots?? No, no, Blast Off and Brawl are the new Astrotrain and Blitzwing, Swindle and Vortex are the new evil Roadbuster and Whirl, and Onslught is the new evil Inferno because his missile launchers are a bit like a ladder. I originally took it on trust that Bruticus's head was intended to be the same as Onslaught's, and really tiny, until I saw a picture of the Bruticus toy done properly. I love the fact that Vortex has a semi-automatic glue gun. I wonder what the Decepticon engineers were thinking when they decided to equip him with that rather obscure piece of equipment. Martin
