Runabout because he's the one of the pair I have.

Yeah, not much to seperate the Battlechargers. I have a fondness for them though, as I had them both as a child. Good play value- pull 'em back and let 'em go! Blam! Right into the middle of one's Autobots! But as toys they were quite primative. Techspecs are mildly fun. They're just a couple of thugs. I was surprised how high their intelligence and ranks were even as a kid.
Hard to seperate them to vote for one...

I suppose these are the natural counterparts to the Jumpstarters, but they're not as chunky or interesting.

By no means.
The only real thing they have going for the is a decent introductory story (my first US issue)

I mean in terms of toy mechanics, but they're a poor relation.

Suspiciously similar 'hoods' and transformations to the Throttlebots. Should these have actually been Throttlebot leaders??

Runamuck; my brother and I got the pair for Christmas, he had Runabout, but besides Runamuck being "mine" I think the white / orange is more distinct and visually interesting.

Yeah, it comes down to 'liking to watch things blow up', and 'admiring junkyards and driving like a lunatic'.
DIFFICULT!

Justice prevails. Pipes also wins the moral victory, as there was clear tactical voting going on. You should see the whining on FB by Mr Lead Tactical Voter!

How well are these regarded in terms of reliability over the years? My Runabout still rolls and springs, but he's slower than he was. I've got all six Throttlebots and they're fine. The Battlechargers to me always felt a bit more flimsy. Of the pull back motorised toys, who are the most hard-wearing?

Runamuk for me. Runabout definitely has the best colours initially, but as my friend also thought that and bought him first, I then went for Runamuk and have come to appreciated his white and orangeness. He also has the better name.

Suspiciously similar 'hoods' and transformations to the Throttlebots. Should these have actually been Throttlebot leaders?? I think not. When they do teams with leaders that are larger than team members, they make them turn into something different to the team members, so that the kids can at least imagine that the leader is the bigger vehicle (even though in reality a space shuttle is bigger than a military lorry). It's hard to put a Battlecharger next to a Throttlebot car and make yourself believe that the leader turns into an over-sized car. Martin

I remember buying my first Throttlebot and thinking that it worked the same way as a Battlecharger. Very disappointed.

I don't know, the Battlechargers were quite floppy in robot mode, and prone to transforming when you didn't want them to in car mode. The Throttlebots were more stable, and the lack of articulation is more obvious and more annoying in a larger toy.

Am I right in thinking that the Battlechargers actually Transform using their motor (albeit needing some help with the arms) whereas the Throttlebots don't Transform, all they do is move forward and you have to manually Transform them?
