I'm merely the messenger.
The mystery of that card is comical. Apparently the original image used for the card has the cock on it. The given explanation was "at the exact instant the photo was snapped, a piece fell off the Threepio costume, and just happened to line up in such a way as to suggest a bawdy image."
Tcheah right.

I have never even so much as handled a Broadside. That being said, he does look proper shite, so.. I think Octane takes it for me, look at that bad boy!

I have owned Octane and Springer and don't feel either deserves my vote here. Springer is an inferior Triple Changer to Tracks, because both their flying modes are essentially the car mode with bits stuck on or folded out, and Tracks has a quality disguise mode. Also, Springer's sword is silly, more like a stick than a blade. And Octane... silly big wings, vehicle modes that look like their trying to be Earth disguises but don't quite work. I'd like to hear what people who have owned Broadside and Sandstorm have to say before I vote. Anyway, Springer's the strongest (9), just ahead of Broadside (8). Sandstorm's the cleverest (9), followed by Springer (8). Broadside is the fastest (8), followed by Octane and Springer (7). Springer is the toughest (endurance 9), followed by Broadside (7). All the Autobot Triple Changers have rank 6, so this is probably before Impactor dies and Springer gets promoted over Roadbuster (rank 8). Sandstorm is the bravest (10) followed by the other Autobots (8), while Octane is down at 3. The Autobots have firepower 6-7, Octane 4. Sandstorm is the most skilful (9), Springer the least (6). Ah yes. nice Big Phil
Voted already. Sandstorm. Broadside seems daft and the one time I played with one, yonks ago, I wasn't impressed. Similar with Octane, although I've never seen or held one. And Springer's two alt modes just seem like the same mode but with a rotar blade stuck on the top. Those three seem a step down from the awesomeness of Blitzwing and Astrotrain. Sandstorm is the only figure of the new bunch that is anywhere near their level. Two distinct alt modes, nice transformation. Nice robot mode. Just a shame about the funny arm articulation. I had a Sandstorm when he was released second time round, and he's a fun figure.

And Techspecs-wise they're a bit off here and there. Numbers don't quite suit the bios. No where near as bad as Kup and friends though.
Suddenly miss my old Sandstorm. Nice switching between modes. Both very distinct and fun to play with. Slight scale issue between the two vehicle modes perhaps, but we'll let him off. Just the funky waste-elbow articulation that lets him down. I loved his turny head and the way his massive rotars just foldened completely away. The Generations update was way off replicating the G1 toy's greatness.

None of them are quite as good ad the previous year's Diaclone originated offerings. A think is required.
I do know I was upset the Autobots got Triplechangers in 1996, I saw that technology, and Combination, as being exclusively Decepticon in 1985. File with: Autobots should be cars, Decepticons should be jets and Superion and Memasor should be on the other side.

Springer is by far the laziest Triple Changer - but for some reason he has always been my favourite of the new lot, even before his high profile roles in the Movie and comics. Maybe it's because he is futuristic, or the colours, or the way you can easily tell how he transforms, I don't know but I'm voting for him here. He has a good visual style compared to the others - perhaps because he was created as a character first?
I think all the others are great though - even Broadside. And I liked the fact that they have three Triple Changers on each side now.

The Autobots lack of a fuel tanker is exposed by Octane! In my youthful TF tales thy had one pulled by a blue Optimus cab....

Springer. I like Octane too, but have never tried a Sandstorm. Broadside is duff.

Sandstorm. Great variety of vehicle modes and interesting robot.
Not Springer - poorly differentiated vehicles.
Not Brickside.
Very non-plussed about Octane.

Springer for me. There's no doubt that his modes are possibly the laziest, but (possibly thanks to the movie), he's always stood out, and while there isn't much between his car and helicopter modes, they still work well enough to get the job done (and I say that with the Mech Fans Toys version sitting in front of me).

Broadside was the first triplechanger I got. He is naff but kind of fun. Clearly they only properly got in to designing the aircraft carrier mode. But the plane mode is a weirdly pleasing made up plane, but then the robot mode is just a brick.
Springers just meh. I kind of like the helicopter mode in the same way I like broadsides plane mould. But lacks anythin resembling a realistic mode
I kind of like octane. 3 distinct mode with clever transformation, but loses points for requiring a shield in tanker mode that doesnt serve a roll in plane mode.
Sandstorm wins, 3 distinct mode, both vehicle mode look quasi realistic and robot mode has my favourite genral look of all the triple changers.

How does an Autobot, and one with no mouth, feel seasick? He can't throw anything up! This raises the issue of how Broadside's head in the comics (and cartoon?) is completely different from the toy. Not only does he have a face with a mouth, but his head is blue with sticky-outy bits. I wonder why it's so different from the toy? Sandstorm's head in the stories is basically the same but with a face with a mouth. Is Springer's toy so close to his character because the toy was designed for the Movie? Broadside... an aircraft carrier TF is a nice idea, but he's just too small to land any TF planes on, at least until the Micromasters come along. Re: the Autobots not having a tanker truck, they get one eventually with the Micromaster Combiner Tanker Truck Transport. But there are lots of Decepticons with a fuel-related function - Ratbat, Tantrum, Greasepit... Martin

I recall that Octane was Trypticon's pal in the cartoon, but they made Trypticon really stupid in the cartoon, when he's quite smart in the comics (and according to his tech-specs he's smarter than Octane).
Octane came to a sad end in the UK comics when Astrotrain and Blitzwing abandoned him to get blown up on an army testing range.
Sandstorm got randomly killed in Time Wars. I wonder why Simon Furman decided to kill him off but keep Springer and Broadside as Survivors? Sandstorm was re-released as a Classic (unlike Broadside) so the Earthforce comic stories didn't match the available toys as far as Autobot Triple Changers went.

Yeah, why did Furman blow up poor Sandstorm?!
Sorry but Broadside, jet and AIRCRAFT CARRIER, just doesn't work. Aircraft carriers are huge, it's... it's too big a shift. I know TF scales are bonkers, but Broadside being an aircraft carrier is just daft.
