I have no problems with Broadsides scale. Never had one though, so... He loses out because he doesn't have his Marvel head, though.
I like the TR Broadside too. I like to pretend he's like a SHIELD Helicarrier.

I have no problem with Broadside expanding when he transforms to aircraft carrier mode in fiction. But they should have made the toy bigger, because he's too small to interact with any TF toy aircraft. A TF toy aircraft carrier should be the size of Metroplex, so small Aerialbots and Powerglide can land on him. Otherwise it's a wasted opportunity. If he's not going to be big enough to land toy planes on, they'd do better to make him transform into something else like a battleship.
It's like they made Soundwave and the Spy Cassettes but without Soundwave being big enough to put the Cassettes inside him, or making Ultra Magnus too small to carry any Autobot cars in car carrier mode.

I'm wondering what Phil's going to put into tomorrow's poll.
By my reckoning there are four toys on the 1986 UK catalogue who weren't on the 1984-5 UK catalogues and who we haven't voted on before in a UK catalogue context - Jetfire, Metroplex, Ultra Magnus and Galvatron.
But we've voted on Jetfire in a US catalogue context. So maybe the poll will just be on the other three.
Or maybe it will just be Ultra Magnus and Galvatron, with Metroplex held over for whatever poll includes Trypticon.
Soon we will know!

All I can say is it would be wrong for me to pass up the opportunity to use a certain phrase to describe tomorrow's clash....... The Ultimate Battle! In This Battle Anything Can Happen! And by 'Anything', we mean it will either be a victory for Ultra Magnus, a victory for Galvatron, or a draw. Just as well. If Metroplex had been in the same poll as them he'd have trounced them on play value. But it seems funny leaving Metroplex to the end of the 1986 polls, as I'm sure he was the first 1986 toy released in the UK (along with Jetfire, who should really have been on the 1985 catalogue). I played with my friend's Metroplex before the Special Teams and Movie characters appeared in the comics or on the shop shelves. Martin

When we did The Dinobots they bridged the two 86 catalogues and a similar approach will be used in the future, such as Scorponok & Fort Max.
Well done for detecting that the poll categories subtly increase in size though!
My memory is finding nearly all the 86 toys in one go in Zodiac toys. Metroplex was there, but so were the like of the Minibots and Battlechargers.

I actually like Broadsides messed up scale, because hes essentially in scale with himself. The robot mode could pilot the plane which could have took off and landed on the aircraft carrier mode. If only Broadside had starred in a timejumping/multidimesion spanning story.
The combination could also have made for a great pretender.

Springer's fine. BUT Sandstorm completely changes shape for all three modes, rather than the others who look sort of the same but with a few tweaks (Octane would as well, but oh wow, he has WAY too much cheating going on with all the 'accessories' that detatch!!)

I am amused that folk can accept a helicopter that turns into a dune buggy but not a plane that turns into a boat!!! -Ralph I can accept it, no problem. But I can't vote for all the options and Sandstorm is the best one.

Voted Galvatron. He was my main Christmas present back in 1986. Although he doesn't really turn into anything (I always thought it was a drill tank as well as a gun when I first see pictures, but now know it's a big rape cannon). He is much more sturdy than Ultra Magnus and doesn't have to be split into lots of pieces to transform. Electric lights and sounds and those glowing eyes! Always thought it was ironic when I found out that one of these guys was the old leader in a new body in the stories - but it was the other way around in the toys.

A tough one. I got Galvatron for Christmas 1986 and loved it to bits. One of my childhood that I am sad was lost.
Galvatron also has yet to have a better toy of that character.
Ultra Magnus is a pretty good toy too though. It remains the best toy of that character (the CW version a very very close second).
Hmmmm.

A VERY tough one. Both characters are HUGE for UK fans, there's a realistic Diaclone vs futuristic Hasbro dynamic too and they are both really really good toys!

Yes, the Galvatron toy is nice and posable but Magnus has loads of guns and can carry cars on his trailer. Plus: white prime.

1986 was a good Christmas for many of us it would seem, I got Ultra Magnus and my brother got Galvatron. Great times. So, I know them both. Always had a soft spot for Ultra Magnus character-wise. But as toys, yeah it's tricky. 'Takey apart Transformation' Vs 'doesn't really turn into anything but has electronics'.
This is why I have a beard....

I wish Galvatron's hand gun mode was used more in fiction. I just think it looked really cool - and also thought that the 'tank cannon' was the afterthought as Decepticon leaders were all hand guns up to this point. If there is a Masterpiece toy of him, I really hope he retains this third mode.
