Oh. My. God. The last three pages. MAD isn't it? And I'm not sure anyone had quite realised the extent of the mix & match madness before!

Aquafend's arms are wonky, Deluge and Jetstorm have silly guns and there's much better F1 cars than Speedstream.
Poor show all round.
Aquafend, just because his gun is best

Where is Aquanaught their leader? -Ralph He is Rage (but you probably know that). Perhaps Aquanaught sounded too much like an insult a crappy villain might hurl at Aquaman in a Saturday cartoon and think it clever. Aquablast is my favourite. Although I wished he was coloured like the catalogue.

AQUABLAST (Engineer) "Listen! That's the music of one of my super-tuned, ultra-hot engines! And think what terror it must strike in the hearts of those Autobot cowards..." A frightening combination of ultra practical mind and bloodthirsty streak. The workings of an engine is like poetry to him. Can fix anything - under the most difficult conditions. As a vehicle, screams into battle with water fire power. As a robot, it makes him a force to be wary of. Strength 7 Intelligence 9 Speed 8 Endurance 6 Rank 8 Courage 7 Firepower 9 Skill 10 DRENCH (Coordinator) "A well run campaign is my greatest pleasure." A bully, a tyrant and universally hated. Must have his own way at all times or takes hideous revenge. But indispensible at coordinating the unit with grim efficiency. As a car, long and low with cunningly concealed water fireing capabilities. As a robot this converts to extra-reach firing power. Strength 6 Intelligence 9 Speed 8 Endurance 8 Rank 9 Courage 5 Firepower 8 Skill 9 HYDRADREAD (Scientific Advisor) "Let me study the battle plans. I'll think up something really unpleasent - and then make it even nastier." A wierdly twisted mind. He devises hideous attack methods that can astonish even the most veteran Decepticons. Always in a world of his own, plotting something horrible. As a car, surprises with fast-action water power. Transforms into an equally well-armed attacking robot. Strength 7 Intelligence 9 Speed 8 Endurance 6 Rank 7 Courage 7 Firepower 9 Skill 10 RAGE (Leader) "If you're not living in the thick of the action - you're not living." Delights in doom and destruction - wherever he can make it happen. So vicious and cruel that even his own troops think of him as an unspeakable menace. Rules by fear and distrust. As a lean-lined car, speeds into action with water attack power. Uses it in robot mode to create havoc and hate. Strength 9 Intelligence 10 Speed 10 Endurance 8 Rank 10 Courage 10 Firepower 9 Skill 9 Martin

TFWiki says that Hydradread should have been HYDROdread. I can believe that. No repaints this week but To summarise (and this is MAD) Drench has his name reused for Aquaspeeder Deluge's US repaint and his Bio & Text specs recycled for Aquaspeeder Jetstorm's US repaint Gobots Hydrahead's Bio & Text Specs are recycled for Aquaspeeder Deluge's US repaint Drench. It's worth putting the Stormtroopers alongside their opposite numbers in the Aquaspeeders as it turns out the weapons are similar between the groups Stormtrooper Rage tfwiki.net/wiki/Rage_(G1)#Toys & Aquaspeeder Aquafend tfwiki.net/wiki/Aquafend both have water weapons which are a gun connected with a tube to the bellows. I assume the bellows mounts on their back. The tube runs under the car in robot mode.

Pulled all of these toys out today, as well as the Aquaspeeders and Color Change cars. I remember that I used to call the Color Change Cars Jetstormer, Drencher and Deluged to avoid confusion.

As you may recall, I'm not a huge fan of Decepticon cars for very rooted in 1984 based reasons. But I quite like these. They're all nicer cars than their Autobot counterparts for a start, nice sleek sports cars, and all 4 robots do look a bit evil. I do recall it was hard to tell which toy was which on the shelves, especially when mixed in with the four Autobot cars. So possibly Hasbro US's decision to pare the range down to 4 cars, and the 4 more varied ones, was justified. It's just they chose the ones which don't look so good! Hydradread has long straight arms which look odd, he's out. His weapon looks odd too. Aquablast has the odd bulky double barrelled weapon and looks almost the same as Deluge, the Autobot carrying the same weapon, so he's out. Rage vs Drench and they both look great. The Autobot long gun under the car, belonging to Jetstorm, looks rubbish but Stormtrooper Drench's is so much better. But evil looking black car with pink highlights in robot mode, aping the year's leader Clench? Superb. Gets my vote and I'm gutted I had to pass over a complete one on eBay the other week.

Aquablast. Im struggling to remember how many of these and the aquaspeeders I have but Aquablast is the one I always favoured as a kid.
These guys are much better than the Autobots. Phils right saying they all look evil. Really good looking toys. And maybe one of the best collection of profiles of any team. Absolute nutters.

At Transforce 2001 whilst queuing to meet the Marvel UK TF creators, the fella next to me in the queue offered a sealed Hydradread for £5. Was the only Stormtrooper I had for ages, finally finished the set off earlier this year.
Hydradread is the only one I've actually opened and has a play with, but it looks like the worse one.
