Keyboard pcb membrane is here - will install either tomorrow or Thursday night and then I can hopefully get the CF harddrive working.

The keyboard membrane is now working.
So just the harddrive to go, and then a few bits and bobs and we are good to go.

Harddrive fitted - but catastrophe - my WB 3.1 disc is borked and won't copy the necessary files across. I could go online and cheat but that's not the point. Next pay day a set of WB 3.1 discs will be reacquired.

I have no idea what condition my old floppies are like. They've been stored in lofts and garages for 25 years.
I gotta start getting ruthless and chuck this stuff out!

Yeah mine had been in the loft as well.
It's fine Cloanto do official WB 3.1 discs still.

My first thought would be to clean the disk and the drive heads. If the discs have been in storage for a long time they've probably oxidised and clogged the drive heads. I found this with my BBC. It was reading floppies okay until I hit a bad batch that had visible oxidisation, now it won't read anything. I'd got that far at the point iso alcohol became the rarest thing in the world during lockdown.

Seems to be okay with other discs just not that one.
I'd seen there's some new roms and an os3.1.4 done in 2018 so have sourced those from an Amiga retailer in France.
Ordered and hopefully with me by the end of next week.

Sadly it will be next week.
However, being delivered by CHRONOPOST so some kind of time travel is involved I assume.

Big piece on that in Retro Gamer this month. I had a C64 mini but found it a bit restrictive once I got my actual BBC Master up and running. I've been playing Amiga games on my Evercade recently. Really got into Chaos Engine again.

Would get one if it handle iso/cue/bin/wav/mp3 files for cdtv/cd32 images. Need that Xenon 2 Cdtv soundtrack!
WinUAE does this, but everyone else just wants whdload it seems.

Hoping they see sense and expand it's functionality a bit after a while. Be good to have these as proper replacements given the age of the original hardware and it would be a wee shot in the arm if fans of the classic hardware had a focal point to get behind.

Been reading the Retro Gamer article on the A500 mini and it's making me twitchy and reminisce. Have you tried WHDload on yours yet, Andy? £120 for 25 games I'm not sure about, but if it's define that the WHDload method works easily I can see appeal in reconstructing my A1200 games collection. That's a definite hole in my video game collection these days.
