Also - next issue looks like they are doing a Hunt for the decepticons story arc for the end of the comic, so expect to see repaints of toys like in the toyrange.

Transformers #18 is beginning to appear on newsagent shelves.
Titan seem to be desperate to keep the comic going until the next Transformers movie - the comic has switched to a bi-monthly (i.e. every 2 months, not every 2 weeks as some people confuse it with) publishing schedule. The next issue is due to go on sale on December 2nd.

Bimonthly, begging for letters - it's not a good sign, is it?
Which is a pity, because this issue's strip is pretty good: the Autobots having to allow carnage to enable, basically, a more press-worthy operation (and behind NEST's back) is a bloody interesting and morally ambigious twist. Bludgeon also seems to be preparing something nasty. This is the best strip since #13, and finally DOING something with the "Bludgeon's militia" concept that only Etherington's #16 did (and that was another good one).
Ever since the Twins arc finished, the comic's just been treading water.

Bi-monthly? Yeah that's circling the drain at the moment. They can only hope to survive until the third film. The only thing is, another relaunch aimed at the same audience when the next film is surely doomed to failure.
I'd be inclined to maybe try and repackage it. Bi-monthly in the size of the Batman/Superman books with more reprint and a lead originated strip would be the way to go.

I don't know why they didn't try a rebrand for the WFC game.

They need it to be CE format - so then at least only need to do 8 pages & use rest for reprint stuff - to tie in with the Generations toyline too.

So bi monthly means only three or four issues between now and the movie which are probably more or less complete. Hopelfully Andys right about a complete relaunch. I see not wanting to end it and risk the current readership not returning for the relaunch, but this format clearly hasn't worked, only 1 in four pages being story is really poor however much I've enjoyed the them.

I called Titan subs at 824 this morning. I'm paying for #19-21 on 19/10/10 then #22-24 19/1/11 £6.35 every 3 months. So i'll only have #19 then be paying for another 3 issues - but they should have the direct debit changed to 6 months not 3 months [if enough of us ring up to state problem]
#22 should be the last issue then. they need to use the IDW stuff for reprinting. are #19 onwards going to be double sized? if they are & cover price £3.99 then they might not chnage the direct debit. but paying £12.70 for 3 issues [£4.24 for each issue that might have cover price of £2.70]

Good grief, an issue every 2 months? When I was a kid, I thought the weekly wait between issues was too long!!

I'm actually quite sorry to hear about this. Hopefully it can last until next summer and get the marketing shot in the arm it needs.

I don't know why they didn't try a rebrand for the WFC game. WFC didn't seem to get much of a push over here (many high street stores did not order it and the Generations WFC toys have pish distribution). Also the comic is aimed at younger kids than the game. Games have a shorter life than movies? Perhaps that is why? -Ralph

Hopefully it can last until next summer and get the marketing shot in the arm it needs. 3 issues ahead seems to be how Titan produce their comics so yes, that would take them up the movie and a hopeful relaunch. I gave up on this after 5 issues due to the declining quality and I had it pegged for death long before now so it's to Titan's credit that I was wrong. It may not be for me, but I would be sad to see TF vanish from newsagents once again. I would like proper reprints of the volume 1 strips: I enjoyed them. -Ralph

I wonder if they need to aim for an older market. At the moment for bulk of comic seems aimed very low but the actual stories feel maturer. That and the fact the movies are definitely more grown up than most of the cartoons, how many of the comics target audience are allowed to watch the film?
And by the third movie the first film will be 4 years old so any fans brought in by the first one are now a lot older.

Is bit daft keeping the target aim for people who can't watch the movie either.

Did your parents let you watch Transformers? Yes but in my day Transformers didn't have lots of humping dogs and Megan Fox slutting herself over anything that moved! EDIT: Also they stopped me from getting the Transformer comic once my mum started to read it and decided it was too violent!

You should have hid #164 [Simon & Dan must have given some kids nightmares with that Kup like face] - or the cover for #194 [Bob did some great covers]

Maybe Titan have ran out of rubbish to stick on the front of the comic which damaged the issue.

Did your parents let you watch Transformers? To me theres nothing too wrong with either film for kids generally, though ROTF does lack a level of taste at a few points. I just think the movies wouldn't hold the attention of younger children who seem like the target audience for the comic. The comic just has a 4+ vibe to it. The films an 8+, at least to me. To be more accurate the comic is closer to an 8 year old age target I think, personally I really enjoy them, but the rest of the magazine seems aimed at much younger or much dumber. Andy

The text features do seem oddly juvenile compared to the strips and letter pages (the longer words and humour are aimed at the 7+ audience). I would like proper reprints of the volume 1 strips: I enjoyed them. It's bizarre that they don't reprint that stuff. #9-25 really were a golden age for the comic, which it doesn't seem able to equal for some reason. What's stopping it?

Do you think v3 #1 [either v2.23 or #48 july or august 2011 issue] could be monthly? expect they could go with reprint of the IDW movie comics for a few months.

The latest issue comes with an Ironhide ion cannon and rotor blaze battle launcher (spinny thing attached to a gun thing).
Simon Furman is back on script duty, offering a story that resurrects an old enemy for the winter season. It's a fun story that is reminscent of the Marvel UK christmas tales (although it loses points for not having any snow). I can't remember the last time we had a TF christmas story, so this is a welcome change from the norm.
Have Titan published a christmas story for previous years? If not, I suspect we would have to go back to the 'Dreadwind's Christmas' text story in the early 90s to get a proper seasonal story.

The only christmas-like story I have from a TF comic is that one where Grimlock gets tricked into going into the forest or something to fight Shockwave, but it turns out the Dinobots just made a snow-wave and Grimlock goes ape on them

It costs £3.99 despite being exactly the same as a regular issue (ha, "free" gifts).
This takes the piss. If the price is like that for #20, that's me off.
