A Devastator gift-set? Blimey! I wonder if they'll do gift-sets of the others teams, I'd certainly prefer that. Get a team all in one go. My O.C.D. abhors an incomplete combiner robot/team as morally wrong!
Exciting times.

But Hasbro can't do the - shortage of this member but you can order it from our site at an higher price. Would Hasbro ever do a repaint of a limb for a website only ordering & not just keep it for a TFCC order toy?

If they did do Devastator like this, what price would you give me on a G2 set being next year's SDCC exclusive?

Which combiner team should not be done for next year? Is there a team people don't like? Ironically if I was picking one to drop it would be Menasor, so that's not happening. He's just a load of cars, boring! But there is something nice about the prospect of the four special teams being done again. Much as I would absolutely love a Devastator in this range I don't think it fits the Voyager/four interchangeable Deluxe dynamic, unless they start mucking about with the makeup. We know any new moulds are going to get reused as often as possible, so I think the most likely thing is what everyone's already said - past the two we've already seen it'd be Bruticus and Defensor made up of repaint parts with the possibility of the odd new figure as a sweetener. The later combiners would need loads of new moulds. Maybe do the 6 team but you don't need to get all of them. You'd need to get the body core but we could see of the other 5 which people don't like or have the one you don't combine being back up. Because ... wouldn't it look good if in a story you see one Constructicon being pinned down then Devastator turned up behind you. Also they could release a Prowl body toy for Devie too. Then you can use Prowl instead of Hotspot. Mix the teams up

It isn't an exact match to the IDW comics but if they have a Prowl toy like how they are doing with Optimus (Motormaster) being a body.

Or instead of having a central Voyager body for Devastator they could split it into two Deluxes. Maybe. And then have a Prowl deluxe. Who could also be used as a limb on other combiners. And..! And..!
But they shouldn't do Monstructor without Pretender shells. There's no point to Monstructor without those!

How would that work? From the looks of the toys each link part comes with a connector post to connect to the pegs on the central toy - unless these could swing round to reveal either connector or post peg?

They wouldn't have Prowl replacing Hook like he did in the comics? I know Hook was moved to another part & not being the head because it was Srapper who was dead - or was it Scavenger.

Personally I think a Prowlstator would be too hard to accomplish IF they were going for proper Devastator in the same box

This being the first true update of G1 Devestator, I would vastly prefer they didn't fuck it up by shoehorning Prowl into the mix. Seriously, that's the dumbest thing they've done in IDW since someone said "Hey! Let's make AHM canon!"
So yeah. The combiner I least want to see is Prowlistator.

I can't believe the worlds biggest Prowl (and to a lesser extent Shockwave) fan hasn't been reading a comic starring Prowl (and to a less extent Shockwave).
Suspicious.

There's been other Devastator's but they've either had 5 members Constructicon Maximus or 4 Universe or haven't combined Action Master or just been **** (Movie Devastator) Probably the closest is MicromasterDevastator/ Destron Sixbuilder but even then the liabilities with Scavenger and where certain bits are placed push it No, I'd like to see something similar to Hercules using Hasbro pieces. I'd go ape if the limbs did use the Combiner Wars joints, and I can see no reason why they shouldn't, because then you could interchange them withthe other combiner wars toys. In fact I wouldn't object to seeing some new toys/random repaints of any of the combiner limbs floating around to encourage the combine any 4 deluxes + a Voyager play element. And because it would seriously mess with certain fans minds who are stuck on the idea that the combined robot has to be made of the same toys in the same places.

And and and I gave up on it all after the UTTER ARSE SUCK that was A.H.M.
I thought someone had said something about Prowl and Devastator ages ago in another thread, but dismissed it as a typo or something.
I knew Prowl was in it alot, but.....

The only reason I feel arms should stay arms, and legs legs, is because of the demands on an individual toy to support four modes. They usually start to become weak around three. If they can prove they can do it WITHOUT making terrible toys, then I'm all for it. Also, if they want to shoehorn prowl into a dev comination, them please do it in a later release, so the traditional Devestator is uncompromized. He IS the most iconic combiner, after all. Also on a side node, I fear for Hook in Prowlistator. He'd be forced to have FIVE distinct alt modes. Robot, Crane, Upper torso, Leg, and Arm. Crammed into probably a deluxe class toy, this is a recipe for a terrible toy.

I see your point but I think you misunderstand me: The arms and legs thing refers to fans who are fixed with the idea of (say) First Aid being Defensor's Left Leg because that's how the cartoon shows it so it can't possiblybe any other Defensor limb or worse the limb of another combiner

If theres a Devastator my hope would be 6 deluxes and not the rumoured voyagers. Hook and Long Haul combine to form the torso and the others form their G1 limbs. Not bothered about them being able to make both arms and legs though would be perfectly happy if they did, even for if just a very basic alternate limb.
The reason I would want deluxes over voyagers is so that the limbs would be interchangable with the other combiners. Though I suppose if the voyagers aren't huge as long as the joints are the same it could still work.
As for Prowl if they could make it work, awesome, but I don't need it. Theres plenty of different approaches that could work starting with the basic option of a replacement Prowlstator head, but thats more of a 3p option.
Then theres Prowl as a replacement for Hook, but as its Scrapper thats dead that wouldn't make much sense, plus if Hook is a voyager it's gonna look odd.
Or replace Scrapper and fit Prowl as a leg and have an alternative Prowlstator head, still not IDW accurate and Prowl would almost certainly be very skinny compared to Mixmaster. But it sort of fits the bill and Prowl would exist to form part of an Autobot combiner team with Prime.
Final option keep all 6 constructicons and fit Prowl in place of the chest armour and again a Prowl head.
I'd be happy with either of the last two options, but suspect Prowlstator will end up needing a 3p add on.

I was just stating my personal thoughts on the functionality of the toys themselves. Devastator aside, I have no "this dude has to be this limb omg 30 year old cartooooooon!" Especially given that no limb guy really has a sharp distinct look from any other limb dude. I mean one jet is the same profile as another jet, and one car is the same profile as any other car. Hell, those two combiners weren't even defined in their detail, in the cartoon. Defensor gets blurry, and I can see their point with Bruticus given how distinct every alt mode us, and gives him such a unique profile over all other combiners (i prefer fliers as arms, and grounders as legs for a purely asthetic reason) And the last four combiners hardly have an iconic profile in combined mode. So yeah, from a toy stand point there's little reason everything HAS to be exactly a certain configuration. As long as forcing a fourth mode doesn't hurt the toy, like it did with FoC Combaticons.

PROWLSTATOR DOESN'T EXIST, NEVER HAS EXISTED, AND NEVER WILL EXIST!!!
That's right, I'm a Prowlstator denier.
(It's actually not a completely bad story up to a point. But having read through notes on it, I dunno, I kinda feel it's a bit of a let down. Prowl was under Bombshell's control? I would rather Prowl was being a hard-ass because that's what he thought was required, Nick Roche style. And, sorry, Prowl becoming part of Devastator is daft. One could almost say the concept sucks arse (my new favorite expression). I'm alright now, by the way.)

The whole story continues beyond the mind control bit and is genuinely good and funny. Prowls relationship with the constructicons is one of my favourite parts of Dark Cybertron and the following Earth based story.

Admittedly the IDW take on how combiners become combiners is ......
am I misremembering or did Superion form because the aerialbots got lonely?

tfwiki.net/wiki/Superion_%28G1%29#IDW_Generation_1_continuityDissatisfied with Bumblebee's governance of the rebuilt Iacon following the reformatting of Cybertron, the Aerialbots ceded from his ranks and left the city, venturing out into the untamed wilderness the rest of the planet had become. Stick Together There, they were found by Megatron, who elected to use them as test subjects, exposing them to the mysterious energies that had previously been responsible for creating the "Deceptigod" combiner. Before the Dawn The Aerialbots first succumbed to rage and madness, but then, the four smaller 'bots began to unify in purpose, hunting down Silverbolt, who resisted the process for longer. Night and the City To cope, the Aerialbots' minds and bodies—like those who combined into the Deceptigod before them—spontaneously reconfigured of their own accord, fusing the five Autobots together into "The Superion". Second Exodus Dismissing the newborn combiner as insane, Megatron left Superion in the wilderness, using the data he had gained from the experiment to perfect the combination process and create a new version of Devastator

I'll give the story a shot, one day when I can afford to trades. No one's come close to the Prowl-of-my-dreams as Roche has. Everything else is a let down. Spotlight: Prowl sucked arse, for example. It should have been Spotlight: Streetwise, as many of us said at the time.

Wow. I didn't expect an off-hand daydream of mine to spark quite so much discussion... ;-)
But yeah, I totally agree that they should just get Devastator right first. And yes, it would be good if any Prowl combiner could also combine with Prime (although given where those two characters are in the IDW world right now, I really can't see that working). But yeah... They just need to get Devastator right first, and then, if nothing else, I'm sure a third party will figure out a Prowlvestator.
If Devastator even happens, of course.
