It could possibly not be leader jetfire. May be a completely scratch built custom job that is mislabeled (accidentally or purposefully). Not saying it isnt a stolen gen leaderfire. Just offering an alternative, given we collectively still dont know what those two leaders are. Ether way $5000? That dude is totally wracked in the head!!! He's proud of that damned thing! Even more ridiculous if it IS a mass retail toy that'll theoretically be available everywhere for a hundred or less, in a few months!

That looks rather nice, but not sure if they can ever do better than Classics Jetfire, that was pretty much perfect in my mind.

Classic Jetfire always bugged me as Jetfire, its the most beautiful Dreadwind and generally a great mould, barring some odd articulation, but not Jetfire. Probably my main issue was that the jet didn't really look like Jetfire the toy (aside from the boosters) or Skyfire the animation model and the robot mode while clearly Jetfire/Skyfire inspired strayed further than most of the original classics line.
This thing looks like Jetfire as a jet and Skyfire as a robot, thats amazing to me and without stepping on Macross' toes the closest to a perfect update of the g1 character/toy.
Till now I haven't thought much about it, but suddenly I'm interested in what the leader Megatron will look like too.

Looks like a good figure, but that's a lot more rounded and chunky than the current style of the Generations line. They tend to be more angular. First thing I thought of when I saw that was, Pretender Jetfire! I'd buy it in a heartbeat though. Jetfire rocks.

That is quite interesting if it is an upcoming Jetfire. Looking at the shape of the fighter mode I am pleased to see that it makes a break with the legacy Valkyrie aesthetics. In fact the fighter mode looks to have as much if not more in common with the Super Hornet than it does with the Valk or F-14. That was one of my great disappointments with the Classics version, the fighter mode felt like a ollection of legacy features trying to aspire to modern design, rather than any kind of update. This looks more like they have had a look at modern design and tried to bring Jetfire on a little.

I think the old Classics one looked better in all honesty and it did the same thing really. I'm not sure why this exists. -Ralph

Hmmmm, I think I'm with Doc'. It looks like a great figure, excellent blend of Skyfire and Jetfire. But it offers me nothing Classics Jetfire doesn't (did that make sense?).
Yes, can't wait to see what Leader Megatron looks like. Is there a 'Leader' Optimus? Lots of 'Leaders' comming out.

Thirded, it looks alright but I'm quite happy with Classics Jetfire. Possibly the jet mode and size would edge it, but I'd only be tempted if it turned up in the UK and was on discount. There are plenty of other characters I'd rather Hasbro / Takara put their time and energy into, seeing as we've already had a pretty good go at this one!

It's worth remembering that Classics Jetfire was SEVEN years ago- there will be kids into Transformers now who didn't exist when the last one came out. That's reason enough to do a new one. This one has a much nicer jet mode and it's a respectable size for those who think of Jetfire the way Shockprowl thinks of the Dinobots Plus it's one in the eye for the two 3P companies currently working on Jetfires of their own- a wee reminder of who the rights holder is Speaking of rights, it's also close enough to remind people of Jetfire's Macross origins but not close enough for Harmony Gold to take Hasbro to court again. -Nick

Blimey, there's a thing! That's a darn good point. 7 years... And yes, Dinobots should be big.

Perhaps Classics Jetfire probably has too many parts/designed for different plastic quality to be reissued. Perhaps that it is why it is being redone. The old mould may just not be economicaly viable in the current line.

He's had a Japanese reissue, w Decepticon badge, very recently,
I like this new version a lot. The classics version was never big enough and this looks like a decent synthesis between the toy jet and animation robot. I'm in.

Speaking of rights, it's also close enough to remind people of Jetfire's Macross origins but not close enough for Harmony Gold to take Hasbro to court again. -Nick Oh, I think you underestimate their litigiousness (and their desperation for money - if it is true that the receipts from "Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles" kept them alive during the financial collapse their core business can't be in great shape). Given their tendency to claim ownership of rights (over and above the merchandise production rights which they do possess) that they simply cannot have acquirred due to the party they dealt with never having possessed them to sell on... That said, apart from the "helmet" head and the booster/missile launchers, I would say that this is the rendition of Jetfire that goes furthest away from the Valkyrie look that we have had - I'd say that it has even less in common that the original design than the SDCC Skystriker did. In terms of the fighter mode really the only things they have in common are twin v-stabs and twin engines, which are hardly uncommon... Mind you, the idea that they might sue and it might go in front of an aviation-savvy Judge amuses me :- "I see that the defendant has a robot which turns into an fixed-wing aircraft with a strong similarity to the F-18 Super Hornet and the F-22 Raptor II, whilst you have rights to the likeness of a faceless robot which turns into a variable geometry-winged aircraft strongly influenced by the F-111 and the F-14 Tomcat. Could the plaintiff please advise me why he thinks that I should not ask him to follow the clerk of the court to the catapult shuttle in preparation for his summary dismissal from my courtroom? And could the plaintiff also advise the steps he has taken to ensure that he has sufficient thrust that the courtroom's bow will not hit him in the aft on the way out?" :-) Karl

While the Jetfire looks good, it also looks pretty much like the Classics version. The final in-the-plastic version would need to be significantly better than it to earn my cash! (I assume size will be a factor in this!)

I agree, Blue'. Jetfire looks fantastic... but so does Classics Jetfire, still.
(And he really does you know)
I need pics of the apparently upcoming Voyager Roadbuster. Need them.

I still can't see what is so different about this new Jetfire over the Classic one. Just seems so pointless. Re-issue the old one! It's probably better made.
In other news, it appears from US Toy Fair that Cosmos has killed a line again! The scamp.

Thankfully Cosmos and Swerve have both been released in small numbers so odds are much like RTS Windcharger they will turn up, its just a question of in which country and what shops. And then Takara should get around to them in due course. as for Jetfire I'm very pro the new mould, but couldn't decide exactly why. The chest is better proportioned, but mainly its the legs, I've never really liked how they work on the classic, but I now see that I don't really like how they look. I also really like that the heads homage Skyfire and Jetfire but also the Animated twins. As for why its been made as Nick said its been 7 years. Just as importantly one of the designers may just have wanted to have a go at Jetfire. I'm just relieved to have a leader class Autobot that isn't Optimus Prime or Bumblebee or Optimus Prime repaintedas Ultra Magnus. It's been a while and Jetfire is about the most suitable G1 autobot for that class, barring Prime or Magnus (with trailers) or base bots.

I do feel important characters do deserve a classics update every few years. Enough of them have had enough designs to warrant them staying fresh.
Several of them I think are pretty much due, right now. We just got a Bumblebee. While i hate the IDW design because g1 bee as a musclecar is IDIOTIC, the original classics did pretty well for G1 since they cant use a beetle. And the IDW design does keep it fresh.
Optimus, Starscream, Grimlock, Ultra Magnus, and Hotrod are about due. Megatron is also due, but we still have no idea what's planned. Each one, like Jetfire, can be handled differently enough to keep it fresh.
-Classics Op was an original design. And the last classic op we got was G2 Laserrod, and that was a while ago. A voyager that uses the G1 design would be the most perfect toy for the 30th anniversary. Bump it up to leader and release him with a G1 style trailer that combines into a powermaster supermode. -Classics Grimlock was an homage to pretender classics. An update of the original design is long overdue, and hasn't been attempted since Energon. -Classics Starscream has been used to death. Except for three (g2 scream, those purple generic troopbuilders, and slipstream), everything that can be done, has been. Often multiple times. A voyager of the F-22 idw design would kick off a whole new seeker craze, be familiar enough to be g1, and separate it from the armadascream deluxe. -Ultra Magnus... Really do i need to explain the multiple ways this guy could be done? -Hotrod, we already got a pretty good G1 update with classics. They could do a new one based on his Viper earth mode, before AHM screwed it all up. Easy repaint- RiD Sideburn. Additional repaints- Dead End, alternators style Mirage.
Am I missing anyone?

Hmmm. So, from the pictures we have a fake cockpit for the humanoid mode, which is glaringly visible in fighter mode from any angle other than above, and the entire nose and cockpit section of the fighter mode ends up hanging off the back of the humanoid mode like a piece they couldn't work out what to do with. That is somewhat lazy engineering. Add to that the fact that the guns coming out of the conformal leg tanks appear to be fixed and not able to fold away so he ends up targeting his own armpits in humanoid mode... Less impressed than I was with this. Has gone from "may try to find room in the budget" to "Maybe if there is loose money come the back end of the year". Better Valkyrie inspired mecha are available at a not-to-dissimilar likely cost of acquisition so it is kind of becoming less appealing to me. The Roadbuster is really nice. Like the Whirl I am surprised by how closely it has hewed to the Dorvack roots of the design. I really wasn't expecting them to go so close to the original look and feel. It looks really rather spiffy. Windblade's fighter mode is better than I was expecting - it sort of puts me in mind of the Morgan from early "Ace Combat" games crossed with the original Thrust's weird wing turbines. It certainly makes a change to have the pile of leg kibble on top of the aircraft mode instead of underneath for once. :-) Karl

One hopes he is mistransformed in that fighter mode picture, and that plate with the stabs and the thruster/weapon pods isn't supposed to stick up like that. Karl.
