Wait! What? That Prime is a voyager? Really? Really really? I thought it was pretty poor when I thought it was another legends toy.

Someone on TFW noted that the new Prime has a sort of G2 comic vibe about him. He's not wrong and it makes me like it a little more. Yes, but if you are going G2, go all-out G2. The face reminds me of something comic-related, but I'm not quite sure what. Ooooh, oooh, yes! It looks like the Combat Hero version of Optimus Prime, as depicted by Geoff Senior. Which actually didn't look much like the actual Combat Hero toy, but there you go. Yeah, that's pretty close. Dammit. Now that G2 parallel has been drawn I want that figure. Well. I was going to buy it anyway. Of course I was. Now I have a retro-fitted justification. Hurrah!

Yeah, that's pretty close. No, the head's completely wrong, and the body (and especially arms) are way too bulky. The head actually reminds me of something I've seen before, but I can't put my finger on it.

Interesting theory I heard on RFC's botcon roundup. Hasbro have hinted that the general theme for Generations 2015 is combiners, and that at the panel they said they had 4 Voyagers and 16 deluxes they could not yet name or reveal on top of what was shown... So, would that make 4 combiners with voyager torsos?
It sounds too much like all eggs in one basket to me as that's a lot of releases over a long period. But it would also be a shot at the 3P market dominated by combiners and maybe Hasbro have learned from FoC Bruticus? They said the Generations line is popular with retailers so they're intending to keep expanding it.
Apparently when asked, a Hasbro official also said the only sub group of transformers that the Thrilling 30 line won't touch on is Pretenders. Forgotten who it was they were talking to.

Damn. I really wanted an updated Pretender.
No, really. They were great toys. Well. They were a crazy idea, but implemented mostly as bricks. I'd love to see a well-articulated action figure that contained a well-articulated robot with a decent transformation. Really. I'm sad now.

A good modern Pretender would be fascinating.
Thanks for the info there, Pinwig, very interesting. Combiners, eh? Well, every TF fan loves a good combiner. Let's see what you got, Hasbro!

Yes! My niche custom market is safe for now.

It was Mark Webber they were mentioning having talked to, not that I know who he is. He also said that they like the idea of completing sets of figures, implying that there'll be a Legends Skywarp to go with Starscream and Thundercracker, and from that the podcast people were extrapolating that there'll be a Kickback after Bombshell too. Guesses, but sensible ones.

Hopefully they didn't learn the wrong thing. FoC Bruticus is a lesson in how *not* to do combiners.

That's what I meant, if they do the torso as a voyager that would help massively with the, er, mass. And solidity. It's an exciting idea. I'd love it to be true.

It would also help a lot if they do away with the scramble city aspect. It's a nice thought, but it doesn't work with the level of complexity they're doing with these. They could still make universal connections, and make them right/left swappable, though.

Even if the actual combiner gimmick is badly executed, most special teams have members I'd love to see updated anyway. A new Motormaster would be amazing, combiner or not. As would actual G1-inspired Terrorcons.

'Classic' Terrorcons would be great to see. As would any scramble city team. But a voyager in the middle is a must, otherwise it just doesn't look right.

Terrorrcons is an interesting possibility as they've been in two IDW titles recently.....
HMMM, if you take the "look at what IDW have done" route which is frequently a good way of making predictions:
Aerialbots & Constructicons in RID Monstructor in Dark Cybertron All 5 Protectorbots on the Lost Light
Superion might have to be a bit special to get me interested though.

I'd be quite interested to see them play around a bit with combiners. I suspect that they won't, and it will just be a case of new versions of existing Scramble City-type characters. But the Mini-con combiner did at least introduce a bit of a different approach to things, and I'd love them to go back and take some inspiration from the various Brave lines and things and give us some different approaches to combining teams.

Very good point about IDW. I think of those teams the one I'd like to see most is Devastator in the thrilling 30 style, but he wouldn't need a voyager.
Thing is if they do come out as purely deluxe teams, 3P will give us a voyager replacement like Microblaze are intending to do for FoC Bruticus. Their Onslaught looks pretty sweet.

I do hope that Brainstorm in the pictures is a production figure, the blue looks so much better than the one in the packshot we had recently. Still tempted by Sunstorm. I wonder if Hasbro have kept anything back for this - will we know the format for the combiners tonight do you think? see the Superion they hinted at at Botcon? I'm dying to know if the leaders really are going to be voyagers. I think we may well see Superion and that'll take up most of the Generations reveals. I suspect there may be more AoE than Generations revealed here.

They're looking pretty rough at the moment but there's tremendous potential there. Definitely Voyagers in the middle, good move.
