Maybe Jack's telepathic link is all to do with the Picard/Crusher link in 'Attached'? Season 7 TNG is the place to be...!
I also have a working suspicion about the coalescent life forms from season 6 'Aquiel'.
And wondering where Jadan is in the Soong hybrid.
If I sling enough mad mud, eventually I'll be right about something!

A part of me kinda wishes this was all linked to the aliens from the S1 episode Conspiracy. But that just wouldn't make any real sense anymore. But it's just a shame that was never touched on again. The basic story fits them equally well.

I'd hoped that earlier in the season as well, but I think that moment has passed. Or has it...?

AAAARRRGGH!! More and more convinced Picard and Jack's altered/improved brains are all about creating a Great Link for solids or to help out the evolved Changlings..
Or they have been Changlings all along.

So... I mostly enjoyed thise one, and didn't hate it. And didn't actually hate Spiner here, either. This is how Data should always have returned, and it just makes me more annoyed at all the fucking around they did over the last couple of seasons. So it's a nice return, and great to see him reunited with Geordi, but soured by how we ended up getting here.
My main issue, really, is that at the end of the previous episode we were promised we were going to find out what was up with Jack (something's up with Jack, something's up with Jack...), and at the end of this episode... we're promised we're about to find out what's up with Jack. One of the big problems they're having this season is that they're dragging some of these storylines out way too long. I think by this point the season could've been a good two or three episodes shorter in turns of runtime, and we still wouldn't have missed anything.
As ever, though, overall judgement will be held until we see whether they stick the landing or not. And with two episodes to go until we solve the problem of Jack, the Federation Day attack, the Changeling infiltration and Picard's final fate (I know nothing of this, I'm just assuming that they're going to want to give the character a proper end at the end of his final series), and with the speed they've been resolving plot threads thus far, I have concerns...

Hence my roar of frustration Indeed. It's like everyone (this issue is not exclusive to nuTrek) has forgotten the art of the epilogue. I mean this isn't a movie. They could have cut the filler, wrapped up the story a few episodes sooner, then used the filler time at the end to give our beloved TNG cast a proper send off, as well as setting up a few potential spinoffs they may or may not want to explore. But no, we'll probably be lucky if the epilogue we get is ten minutes

I once again enjoyed that episode a lot, despite sharing the main qualm others have expressed. As I can't help myself speculating no matter how wrong I always turn out to be Wasn't it a tiny bit suspicious that both Vadic and Deanna asked Jack about the red door? How much should we trust this Deanna who just showed up on Vadic's ship anyway?

Apparently the finale is getting a cinema release in the US next week... next Wednesday. So now a whole two days before the UK release. That'll be a fun couple of days of spoiler dodging...

Thankfully a 48hr Twitter black out is something I don't find nearly as difficult now as I would have a few years ago

Episode 9: So this episode was far more satisfying than the previous one. It seems many predictions were correct. As well as the unfortunate demise of captain asshat Shaw.
I have a feeling if they had more time and money, they would have split the crew, and pulled the Voyager, Defiant, and maybe the E-A out of mothballs and have all the hero ships saving the Federation.

Should Martin binge-watch episodes 6 to 9 this weekend and then wait a week with the rest of you for the finale, or shall I wait a week and binge-watch all five?
Decisions, decisions.

The most annoying thing about the set lighting, is they could have been so incredibly clever, and used it not only for dramatic mood, but as environmental story telling. I don't think I need to do this as it all revolves around early to mid season events, but just in case, spoilering the rest. Nothing to do with Episode 9. All they had to do was start the season with the sets properly lit, then get dark during the shrike attack and when they're sinking into the nebula, because of their power drain and damage. Then go the rest of the season with half lights, because they're understaffed and heavily damaged. They can only work on critical systems, and dimmer lights would go a long way to show how much trouble they're in. They get their Drama™️ and an in-universe reason for it. To me, it even makes it more dramatic than starting off with almost no lights.

Well, stuff to both adore and hate about that one! On balance it was another good one though... Yes, well, Shaw's big sacrifice was an inevitability really. He was written for that, and to me it seems like a waste, but so it goes.
The Changeling / Borg cooperation thing still doesn't make sense to me, but I will assume it will become clear next week (usually these days I'm not optimistic about these things - there's more of a tendency to fudge the end of plots in favour of Big Emotional Beats but Matalas has earnt the benefit of the doubt this season).
Kicking myself that the other week when I listed potential surprise guests from TNG I didn't think of Shelby! Another victim of bloodthirsty writing sadly, but still nice to see her.
