No. I am a vegetablist.
What a good film! Liked that. Look, Marvel, you can have female leads in films and they still work! Imagine that!
Also, imagine a film in which the comedy side-kick is Nick Fury. Very cool.

A quarter of the year in and 2019 has been rather mediocre overall film wise. 'The Favourite' and 'Us' easily rank amongst the most awful films I have ever seen. Which is a shame as both directors have made great films previously.

Shazam!: Nowt earth shattering but fun and entertaining and unlike some other DCU films it remembers it is derived from comics for children and wears that on its sleeve. In another year I might be harsher on the thin story but considering the unmitigated shite 2019 has produced cinematically thus far I will take it as a win.

1. Bumblebee 2. Alien 3. Destroy All Monsters - Took advantage of the chance to see the Japanese language original on the big screen. Bonkers fun.

1. Vice 2. Stan and Ollie 3. Hellboy (better than expected - enjoyed it more than the previous Hellboy films) 4. Captain Marvel 5. Alita: Battle Angel
Hurray, they're making a Fast & Furious movie without any of the crap characters (i.e. original cast) in it!

There are no crap characters in Fast and Furious! Yes there are, specifically, all the characters who aren't in this film and weren't played by Kurt Russell. Martin

1. Bumblebee 2. Alien 3. Destroy All Monsters 4. The Dirt - Okay, so I haven't watched it on a big screen. Still, an interesting and occasionally hard watch. Couple of gut punches I wasn't really prepared for.

1. Captain Marvel 2. Avengers: Endgame
I can imagine Captain Marvel being one I'll rewatch frequently. Endgame I admired, and may watch again in full one day, but am more likely to skip to the bits I liked best.

1. Avengers: Endgame 2. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 3. Halloween 4. Witchfinder General - an remittingly bleak affair, with a great performance from Vincent Price as one Saint takes on another! 5. The Death of Superman 6. The Reign of the Supermen

Spider-verse is fantastic, and Halloween is pretty good. A touch excessive in places, but thats modern horror for you. It DOES NOT need a sequel.

What I will say is that the trailers advertise a completely different film. If you expect Lego Movie style humour with wisecracking Ryan Reynelds solving crime...that trailer was a tissue of lives. It is traditional Pokemon antics with crap humans. Pokemon were good though.
Lead human actor is mind staggeringly dull. Pokemon act him off the screen. But ech, it was fine. Kids will love it and I got lots of Psyduck. Sadly there, ah, is only one token Japanese person in the film based on a big Japanese pop culture IP.
The curse of video game films remains!

1. Stan and Ollie - Good stuff 2. Bumblebee - I think Ive seen every Live Action at cinema at least twice. Had to keep the tradition. 3. Vice - Entertaining but the lack of any decent human beings meant I didn't really enjoy it. 4. Alita: Battle Angel - Enjoyable but mostly forgetable. On a number of levels Alita herself was a bit off. I don't know if it was the cgi, or the eyes ( i get the in film explanation for the look, but that should still have warranted some kind of comment from someone) or even the sort of iffy age stuff (she spends most of the film in a body built for a young teen, but depending on your perspective is either much older or only 1 day old) 5. Mary Poppins Returns - Suprised to find myself really enjoying it. Everything works though I'm not sure of the music is as memorable as the original. 6. Lego 2 - Some laugh out loud moments and still an enjoyable film, but not quite as good as the first one. blimey what have I seen. 7. Captain Marvel - yay. 8. Shazam - Levy is always good value for money. Never imagined him leading a modern superhero film though. Weird but amazing times (in cinema). 9. Avengers : Endgame - double yay. 10. Bill and Ted Excellent Adventure - Dude! Special 30th Annivasary screening put on by Hull Independent Cinema, but at Cineworld so I could still use my card. I was to young to see it first time around on the big screen and I doubt Ive seen it in the last 20 years. Its weird and totally not weird how this has survived the test of time. Its really good and yet I'd have a hard time putting my finger on what makes it better than a lot of similar films from the late 80s. I mean Keanu Reeves and the Soundtrack are obviously helpful. Also a nice little web cam video from Alex Winters to introduce it and saying they start on 3 in less than a month. Eeek!

...and that was probably my last film at my local fleapit of a decade. I have easily seen somewhere between 450-500* films in there. I shall miss it.
-Ralph
*I used to keep a yearly record. One year was 52 films, another 157, another 106. That three year period was my peak due to practically living there due to Real Life issues. With the Cineworld Unlimited card for 8 of those years I usually saw a film a week hence the overall estimate.
