1. The Favourite Can't decide if this was a good or a bad film but it was interesting. Extremely distressing scene with a rabbit near the end. Strong performances from the three leads.

THE FAVOURITE: tedious wanking shite about rabbits.

1. Stan and Ollie - Good stuff 2. Bumblebee - I think Ive seen every Live Action at cinema at least twice. Had to keep the tradition.

MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS: Watchable TV-grade fair. I would be harsher on it but after THE FAVOURITE I just wanted some joy in my life again.

STAN AND OLLIE: Film is a bit forgettable but the performances are lovely.
I've tried to see THE MULE twice. 1st time I had to pass as felt unwell. 2nd time a couple would not move so I could have my seat. 3rd time will be the charm.

1. Vice (probably biased, but good clean fun from a liberal perspective - Steve Carell as Rumsfeld and Sam Rockwell as Bush Jr steal any scenes they're in) 2. Stan and Ollie

1. Stan and Ollie - Good stuff 2. Bumblebee - I think Ive seen every Live Action at cinema at least twice. Had to keep the tradition. 3. Vice - Entertaining but the lack of any decent human beings meant I didn't really enjoy it. 4. Alita: Battle Angel - Enjoyable but mostly forgetable. On a number of levels Alita herself was a bit off. I don't know if it was the cgi, or the eyes ( i get the in film explanation for the look, but that should still have warranted some kind of comment from someone) or even the sort of iffy age stuff (she spends most of the film in a body built for a young teen, but depending on your perspective is either much older or only 1 day old) 5. Mary Poppins Returns - Suprised to find myself really enjoying it. Everything works though I'm not sure of the music is as memorable as the original. 6. Lego 2 - Some laugh out loud moments and still an enjoyable film, but not quite as good as the first one.

Can You Ever Forgive Me? - Nice performances though I have seen Grant be better in other things. I found him a bit too cartoonish at times and distracted from a surprisingly good turn from Melissa McCarthy. Beware the trailer: it literally covers every plot beat of the film!
The Lego Movie 2: Actually the 4th cinematic Lego film and the poorest by far. Far too many pop-culture references and it smacks of having vanished completely up its own arse, despite having the original writers returning. The first Lego film was fabulous: a genuine original. It's been ever diminishing returns since, alas, and it's just time to stop. Not everything has to be a franchise.
Alita: Battle Angel - Ludicrous, with many guffaw inducing moments and it's about 15 minutes too long. Highly enjoyable tosh though and filled with 'how did they do that?' effects. Great fun. I don't need a series of this but I did enjoy it.
Glass: ponderous and dull. It also lacks the budget for the point of the film to actually work.
The Mule: At the age of 88 Clint Eastwood still has amazing screen presence. He rarely acts now (mostly directs) but if that's his last on-camera appearance it's a good way to go out.

1. The Death of Superman - rewritten by Peter Tomasi (former assistant ed on the Superman books), surprisingly decent for what it is. 2. The Reign of the Supermen - not a patch on the comics it's based on, and lacks a lot of the real emotional gut punches and WTF moments/

I watched a Star is Born last night, I'm honestly really surprised, a fantastic film that I thoroughly enjoyed, really depressing but so well put together

I was very surprised by the budget for Glass - according to Wikipedia it was only $20 million. Pretty sure Willis has got paid that himself for some movies. Also agree with The Favourite being dreadful and Mary Queen of Scots not being that good but being a bit of a relief after The Favourite.

1 - Halloween - let the series end with this. It's a great ending, well paced, obviously more gory than the original, lots of great callbacks to the first done in the right way. Cast was great, Jamie Lee Curtis was excellent. Will Patton was great in a rather smaller role than I'd hoped for. 2. The Death of Superman 3. The Reign of the Supermen

1. Captain Marvel
Absolutely loved it!
Fine performances (Ben Mendelsohn continues to be great), didn't go overboard with the "LOL the 90s!" stuff like it so easily could have done, when it's funny it is actually funny, some top song choices on the soundtrack.
Everyone I follow on Twitter seems to be being very restrained, putting it just in the upper tier of Marvel movies, but for me this is easily top 5 material. I'd be happy to go to the cinema and see it again.

I've seen Alien in a few formats in a cinema (original UK 35mm print and digital prints of the standard and director editions) so I would echo that.

Very thin year for cinema this year. I usually see 2 or 3 films a week but most often there's bugger all on. Another weekend with only one new release! Madness.
Ralph wants to see films but no films to see!

Indeed. We all remember the glory days of...
Wait a minute, we don't. Which year was it you practically lived in the cinema and we were urging you to reach a particular milestone by the end? Didn't you see over a hundred or something? I seem to recall the number 132.
