And lo, did the unworthy gaze upon the Library Helpdesk. Now we can bask in its glory. Look! Look brothers! It is the LIBRARY HELP DESK. That which closes at 7.50pm (6.50pm Fridays) and dispenses assistance to all! Present your books for stamping! KNEEL!

Pinwig, the Helpdesk might be unmanned but security will always be around. I would hope so too. The Help Desk must be defended at all costs!

I hate to break it you but stamping has been on the wane in libraries. I haven't had a loan stamped in several years.
I too feel library books should be stamped.

It's a conveyor belt attached to a revolving drum and a DARK PIT. It is like an evil TOMBOLA MACHINE for library books.

YES.
I MUST RIDE THE TOMBOLA.
actually, in my local there is a machine for returning books. You scan the barcode and when it recognises the book it asks you to put it on THE SHELF. when you do, the shelf slowly lowers itself inside the machine and consumes the book. It is terrifying to see. A machine that eats books.

LIBRARY HELPDESK FOCUSI had the exciting opportunity to take a look at two libraries this afternoon, both in close proximity to each other behind the old abandoned Post Office in Chichester. The first is inside the town museum, and while the library is an inviting and comfortable looking space on the first floor of the building, it doesn't have a helpdesk. That's right, desk fans, NO HELPDESK. Meanwhile, over the road in the gorgeously designed and amply stocked city library, the Help Desk sits proudly within view of the entrance and centrally in the circular space the spokes of the shelves are placed around. Things were looking good until it became apparent that even at 1pm in the afternoon, the desk was not manned. Repeat, NOT MANNED. There was also no information to hand as to when the desk closes for the day. However, given the library itself shuts at 7.00pm, that's probably when the desk closes.

Oh my word this could be a late one tonight! We have a 7.55pm closing possibility! We haven't seen that kind of extended opening since early February! It's a big big night for the Helpdesk!
