Really we should have done this ages ago....
YES - because the Beastformers appeared in Headmasters and are on one Japanese TF catalogue
NO - because they're a separate line in the west

Star Saber was not a part of Transformers in the west - so is he not part of Transformers?
And if you say he has been in comics, then so have the Battle Beasts.

This argument is so wise that I propose anyone voting 'No' be placed in some sort of box with the lid taped shut, to protect us from their madness

It's also complete rubbish because Star Sabre wasn't old in a different toyline in the west, unlike the Battle Beasts

It's also complete rubbish because Star Sabre wasn't old in a different toyline in the west, unlike the Battle Beasts So you are saying Sky Lynx, Roadbuster, Whirl and Jetfire are not Transformers as they were sold in a different toyline in Japan? Sadly I cannot make the winky smiley bigger or it would be huge.

What about other crossover toy lines like GI Joe?

They're certainly not TFs originally just like the Diaclone and Microchange toys aren't.
Beastformers is something completely different, piggybacked briefly onto the back of TFs to launch it. One catalogue appearance, one (?) cartoon appearance and then gone to live it's own existence.

The Battle Beasts were released in 1987 - that was the same time as they would have appeared in Japan. So I don't think they can be called 'old toys tagged onto Transformers.'
Takara made them so I'd assume they were made for inclusion in their Transformers line and them marketed differently in other countries.

I am now inspired to write another 'Science of The Transformers' article to further validate Battle Beasts as a Transformer sub-line.
Can a mod move Phil's post saying they are not to his Mad Theory thread??

I'm wi' Big Phil. They're not Transformers. They don't look anything like Transformers, and they don't transform. Star Saber looks like a Transformer and transforms. Action Masters don't transform, but they're based on Transformers characters, look like Transformers, and had transforming stuff. Pretender shells don't look like Transformers, but have Transformers inside. Seems to me like Battle Beasts were thrown into the catalogue as a 'look what else is available' kinda way. They look fun, if you like that sort of thing, but they are not Transformers.

They are part of Transformers.
I also think we have Toy-Fu's next zine for TFN2020!

They are in the Great Catalogue thread so they must be part of Transformers!

Battle Beasts are part of the extended transformer family! There is nothing to suggest otherwise, either, as they have no fiction.

Yes they do.
They are in Headmasters.

You are correct, but completely misunderstood me. Beastformers are in japanese fiction, as stated several times. Battle Beasts specifically do not appear in any fiction (beyond the occasional cameo in modern western TF comics).

They're not Transformers. Correct, but that isn't the poll question. The poll question is are they _part_ of Transformers, and they clearly are. The Headmasters cartoon DVDs have been on sale in HMV. And it doesn't matter if they were called something different in Japanese (like Decepticons are Destrons), it's still them. Spider-Man and G.I. Joe are also part of Transformers. Like the is-Thomas-a-train poll, this shouldn't be the subject of a poll as it is a matter of fact. Martin

They are part of Transformers. I also think we have Toy-Fu's next zine for TFN2020! I suggested that after the Rock Lords one, but Blue wasn't having it. If there were nine days in a week I'd do one. I think they deserve Rock Lords level exposure.
