Where there only 2 new Leaders? -Ralph Yes. Considerable evidence suggests Astrotrain was a Earthrise Leader pulled forward to Siege and the way things have played out suggest there may well have been a fourth Wave and Leader. The somewhat substantiated Kingdom rumours suggest 4 Leaders for that line. Two of those suggest they may have been originally planned for Earthrise, one is an Earthrise reissue leaving BW Megatron as the only new Beast Leader

Hmmm. I can't see how Astrotrain was meant for ER. It has the 'battle damage' deco and styling of Siege.

It could have been a deco change when he was reassigned. He definitely was originally ER wave 1 - his ER product code predates the Siege one and is part of the wave 1 number set, right next to Prime. Siege Astrotrain didn't exist on Hasbro's product lists until after ER wave 3 was done; he's the next code number after Runamuck.

It also transforms into a steam engine, which are notoriously absent from hyper advanced alien societies capable of interstellar travel.
ER Hoist also has a damage deco.

If I hadn't gotten Bluestreak already, Smokescreen would be the best. But he's not new anymore, and compaired to Bluestreak, he has a really weird and not pleasant head. But much better deco overall.
If Airwave had been wave one, I'd have been much more impressed with the modulators. He leaves a much better impression than Ironworks. Much more clever use of it's parts.
Arcee... Arcee is a thing that exists.

I can't see Arcee as a toy that will weather time well, for anyone who does more than stand her on a shelf. She'll break in a half dozen places.
She's very badly designed on all levels.

he has a really weird and not pleasant head. This is very true. That animation model head Smokescreen has in his toy forms now makes him look like he's got a massive double chin wobbling under his face. It's not a good look for a debonair Autobot like him. I haven't popped me Prowl out yet, but I'm definitely thinking this mould looks best on Bluestreak.

If Airwave had been wave one, I'd have been much more impressed with the modulators. He leaves a much better impression than Ironworks. Much more clever use of it's parts. Superb toy. Tank mode in the instructions is rubbish, forget that, there's a far better one which is a modification of the carrier mode and makes use of a few features on the toy not used in other modes.

I'm probably never going to transform him again. I have zero affinity for weaponizers and modulators, and this hasn't changed that. He's more clever thn Ironworks, but still suffers all the flaws of his predecessors.
After a tiny few transformations, most of my weaponizers legs fall off when I pick them up. And just from moving them a couple times, airwave's arms are starting to become loose. If Arcee wasn't complete trash, and the alicon wasn't the lasiest TF in years, he'd be the second least favorite of ER and the bottom of wave two.

Okay so fiddling with airwave more and transforming him despite the extreme risks of utterly ruining it like I have all my weaponizers, I think I figured out why modulators completely fail to interest me.
They need more than just two molds to be interesting to me. It's like if Armada went "And here we have a whole new type of transformer, that introduces a bold new type of play, never seen before! Minicons!" and then only make two sets.

It's like Cliffjumper is Smokescreen's son. One of the things I like about the WFC toys is that they're quite posable and relatively compact, so you can get more naturalistic group poses out of them, like a bunch of guys awkwardly posing for a photo. Much harder to do with more kibbly iterations of the same characters!

My Ironhide and Prowl came in today.
Ironhide is almost completely and improvement over Siege Ironhide. Mt only complaint (aside from the feet ruining the van mode), is that after retooling almost every single piece of him, they didn't fix the problem that virtually ruins the first toy- not a single hinged panel has a pin to hold it in place, and they fall off if you look at it funny.
Prowl is, like the other uses of the mold, lovely. Deco needs reprolabel help, and is the first one of the three I feel this. Head is leaps better than Smokescreen's ugly mug, but not nearly as nice as Bluestreak's. Wish they'd just used that head for all three.

Mold's flaws aside, I absolutely love Ironhide in ways that the siege version fell flat.
It is the quintessential Ironhide, and finally dethrones the Botcon 2005 DiE Ironhide as the best Ironhide.

Okay therecs a juxtaposition between Ironhide and Arcee, that Ironhide suceeds where Arcee completely fails.
Both of them a significant portion of their vehicle mode is removed. But Ironhide's is a fairly complex piece that converts into both a convincing riot shield (one of the better such pieces) that can be used as a jabbing weapon, and a believable hoverboard, and could be repurposed into a gurney. And it can also be stored on his back without any detriment to the robot.
Arcee, despite the lack of any complexity in any way with the main toy, the removed part is just the rear half of the car. It doesn't convert. They say it's a hoverboard, but it makes zero effort to look like one. It would actually make one of the better and more convincing shields, but there's no way to mount it as such. It "folds up" to stow on her back, but makes her ungainly and is borderline incapable of supporting herself with it on.
This is a long winded way of saying that with as little effort as they put into Arcee, they could have at least had the two thirds of the vehicle that gets removed actually do something.
