Ah I see, so the grey plastic parts are all reused from the originals but are swapped around between the robots. Growl's chest is the same as Flak - the grey part. The stomach and hips are a different piece on both. Cratermaker and Bombshock have different heads, Bombshock's is much bigger. They're the same design but it looks more like Cratermaker got a rejected prototype. Bombshock's is much better.
No but there are distinct parts in common to both toys, namely a frame that's grey on both sets.
That I think is one way how we separate 'remould' and 'engineering reuse'. When you look at Flak and Growl's vehicles they are completely different, but clearly share the same transformation design.
More FIDDLING is needed with this. It occurred to me this morning that Trip Up and Daddy-O are basically the same figure with different parts, so one is a heavy remould of the other, but they are both derived from Swindler - same proportions and engineering with a single change in the way the bonnet hinges.
13 months since I ordered it, Forbidden Planet have finally admitted they won't be able to get me a Runabout. Certainly not at RRP anyway! I knew it was a long shot but I still had hope.
Ramjet (new head/wings) - G2 Ramjet - Sandstorm - Cloudcover
Thrust (wings)
Dirge (wings) (plus the non-painted wings version)
There's nothing in the upcoming leaks that suggests this mould is getting another run out next year is there? I would like to think there's more to come in the exclusives department but I'm just trying to think realistically beyond Acid Storm, Sun Storm and the other unreleased colours of the original mould, like Blackout and Jungle Starscream - what else is there? If Nacelle is coming stupidly from the Siege mould, it doesn't seem likely characters like Bitstream and Hotlink are likely.
Yes those other four Decepticons from the opening of the pilot episode make more sense as Tetrajets. I'd just like a third trio of jets from the earthrise mould like we had the rainmakers from the Siege one.
Having G2 Ramjet, Cloudcover and Sandstorm is annoying because although they're a 'G2' trio they're all the same mould. We really need two other funky colours versions to make a nice set.
Not sure why I'm so taken with this at the moment. It feels like this mould has given us a lot but not enough in the right places. I do miss there not being a proper Sunstorm, Takara colours style.
Cloudcover should have used dirge wings, while the black Starscream should use the thrust wings. I don't care how inaccurate it is to toys that were never released. We've had vastly less accurate homages to unreleased G2 toys in the past.
Now, using Dirge wings on Cloudcover I think would have been fine. They are slightly odd design wise, but aesthetically. But using Thrust wings...those things are just...wrong...on an aesthetic level for me. They'd be fine on some sort of ducted fan rotorcraft, but on what is supposed to be a conventional aircraft I'm not a fan of the look at all. (And it isn't like they serve any really useful purpose - almost all of the secondary media show Decepticon jets using transformation as a method of doing vertical take-off and landing, so it isn't clear what benefit is even being derived from them. (Like the air intakes on the underside of the jet modes of the Classics jets they just appear to be decorative and without any real utility).
