Maybe we'll get innovation again when the Armada kids manage to wrestle the franchise away from the geewunner hardliners.
It's amazing how many geewunners have forgotten how innovative g1 was.

I can see Minicon sets replacing Micromasters at that price point in chapter 3.

At this point, I don't see any (non-fictional) difference between a minicon or micromaster. The micros do the same thing now: tiny vehicles that can plug into larger robots/vehicles, turning into tiny robots, and turn into "weapons."

Phil, is there a current state of play list in this thread somewhere? My addled brain currently can't remember what we know for sure us coming in this line. Are Battlemasters a thing any more?

That's what I'm thinking, I'm wondering if the natural progression in Year 3 to keep packaging sizes the same is to move on to Minicons for that class. That way there's a link from the movie figures we're getting in Earthrise to Armada in ch3 because Unicron services them both.

Mind you, Armada was Aaron Archer wasn't it? Warden's crew may not want to stray into the previous design team's territory. We do seem though to be slowly getting Generations versions of every significant Prime regardless of their origin, and we know there is a sculpt for the Armada one.

Leader: Machine Wars- Thunderclash alternate Armada- Nemesis Prime Alternate Energon- "Animated" retool, IDW Earth mode retool Big Convoy RiD
Voyager Leo Prime/Lioconvoy- Leobreaker alternate TFP (G1ified)- Movie deco alternate Optimus Primal (Season 1) Optimus Primal (Transmetal) Optimus Primal (Beast Machines) WfC/FoC (G1ified) IDW (pre-earth)
Deluxe Alternator- RiD Ironhide alternate Gobot- RiD Crosswise(?) Optimus Primal (Bat)- Onyx Primal and ConvoBat alternate
Leader or Voyager: War Within Any size class: NuRiD
I think these are all the major and minor designs left undone, and the classes I think they'd best fit.

Leader:Optimus Primal (Season 1) We have kind of had that Primal with the Throne of the Primes repaint of PottoP Optimal Optimus. But it's also not entirely accurate, so there's certainly room for another crack at the figure. I would happily welcome all of those, of course - especially Machine Wars Prime - but I'm wondering if the next Prime we'll actually get will be Rodimus Prime, because of the timeline they're following... That said, we are due an Armada Prime, so you never know - given that we ended up with a Galaxy Force Convoy-esque Prime in Siege, maybe we'll end up with a War Within Prime in year three of WFC, for some odd reason. There is still hope... :-)

Machine Wars with a Thunderclash repaint in select would be a proper fan pleasing move. I can see that going down well. That kind of thing would show Hasbro really do connect, not like the Redwing type releases.

I think Redwing has a specific story, and I think this is it:
Target asked for a red transformer exclusive to promote their redcard credit card. Target has a history of wanting red items as exclusives. It just hasn't impacted transformers before now. But since most of you have never been in one, Red is their thing.
Redwing has been a highly desired seeker that's yet to be made. It has minimal appeal though, something only completionists and seeker fans really care about.
1+1= Redwing.
I don't know if the Target person knew about Redwing and requested him specifically, or if Hasbro chose him to fill the request. But Redwing at one time on his Target page talked about his weird history of how the character came into being.
I honestly don't think this was a weird choice at all. It's a difficult exclusive to get, but also a choice that will irritate as few people as possible. Unlike say... Smokescreen.

That does make sense. I'd forgotten redwing was a target exclusive. Obviously over here he was just another Select release.

By import shops I mean. Plenty around at Kapow/ID/TFSExpress via Hasbro UK. Redwing was freely available to those who wanted to sell it outside the US as it was only a Target exclusive within the US, therefore the connotations of him being red were less obvious to us.
What we 'get' here these days is a little more blurry than it used to be. If Kapow obtain stock from Hasbro UK and sell it in their shop, that's a retail release, just not widespread through a national chain. Phil will tell you the FoC Bruticus wave had a retail release, but in reality it was only sold in a handful of TRUs for a short space of time. There isn't a huge amount of difference.

I thought Ironworks was going to be a bit grimy? Or was that just poorly painted prototypes?

The Wheeljack looks a lot better than the previous photos we saw. Not sure he's up to Generations 2010 standard, but it's more appealing to me now. Everything else looks glorious. Look at that Ironworks! That's awesome!

I was assuming that Ironworks was going to be more shit-splattered also, just like most of the previous Siege toys. Maybe they've decided that was never the best idea? Still want an Ironworks, mind you - he's such a great idea. And he can make a wee bench for figures to sit on, apparently! How can I not?
I would say it was interesting that they're listing other planets such as Velocitron, and Antilla is especially interesting... or would be if we didn't know that the figure related to that is coming anyway.
