It's an odd design because it's upside down - legs are the bonnet and chest is the exhaust. You've got to wonder why the designer started that way round. But it nearly works. I think it just needs a slightly thinner spoiler set about a centimetre further back in car mode and bigger feet in robot mode. The transformation though is really great. Very satisfying until you have to line up those four tabs attaching the back of the car to the front.

I was never happy with just how skinny Classics Mirage is. Siege Mirage"s blockiness works for me. He looks Siege. But the design is oddly thought out. I'd just love a painted toy accurate head.

Siege Mirage works so much better with the toy head. The toy was pretty much a block. Animation model was a lot more streamlined. If the single release had the OG toy head, I'd be a lot happier with it.

The wheels racked up behind his head is also I think closer to the original than the way Siege hides them. I know he's painfully thin at the waist, but that just adds to his uniqueness. |

I finally saw Siege Mirage in-hand in the week, and I was most put off by the fact that his robot mode chest becomes the rear bumper. I mean, yeah, we've had toys with fake vehicle-mode chests for years now, I know. But still...

For a deluxe size toy, what it does is really clever. It's really well designed. It's just not what Mirage does.

I think I need to add 1988 to my Best of CHUG chart to see where we stand on those characters. A lot more spaces. PM Op, Skullgrin, Getaway, Darkwing and Dreadwind, Doubledealer, Slamdance, Overlord, Quake, Spinister and Scoop been done in the mainlines. Skullgrin, Cloudburst, Metalhawk, Submarauder, Landmine & Bomb-Burst as Prime Masters Seacons, Grad Max and Godbomber in Japan. TFSS did Needlenose, Ruckus (Grabuge), Spinister & Windsweeper |

Its an odd one. You either get one that does alomost exactly what the original Mirage did, but but ends up looking quite different or one thats quite a good toy animation hybrid by completely flipping the transformation and including a fake chest. |

Some of these groups are really coming together now. I put Grapple and Hoist with Siege Red Alert, Smokescreen and Turbo Tracks for an '85 lineup earlier. Looks great. I need to get T30 Skids out of the loft but I don't think he'll fit quite as well. Need an Earthrise Inferno!

Been putting the original UK '84 rock steady crew together this afternoon and have concluded that Classics Mirage still wins over Siege. He just looks a more impressive robot. I will wait on SS86 Jazz now to see if he replaces RTS but I think this team is nearly locked in and done.
Prime - Earthrise
Bluestreak - Earthrise
Hound - Siege (but I still haven't had a Universe to compare)
Sideswipe - Siege
Jazz - RTS
Mirage - Classics (may need to find a Henkei or specialist to improve the deco)
Ratchet - Galactic Odyssey

The problem for me and my collection is that Siege and Earthrise have superseded 90% of my prior collection.
It's been a hell of a trying time convincing myself that I didn't need the ER Strike Planes because I have the Classic ones!
