Some random thoughts. So were the Maximals from the future, then? Does that mean Unicron is also in the future - and so could still be Earth, as per 'The Last Knight'?
Bumblebee did not feel like the same character from the film 'Bumblebee'. I liked Mirage, and it made Bumblebee superfluous. They could have left him out of the film, to be honest.
Noah wearing Mirage as a suit really gave me that Nebulan armour vibe. Martin

Just back from watching it.
Enjoyed it, probably my favourite of the live action films.

Annoyingly, despite only being out since Thursday, narcisstic arsehholes online have spoiled the end of ROTB. Not everyone can see a film on opening day.

People are such inconsiderate arseholes.
I find the people who the spoiling online, are also the ones who bitch the most when something gets spoiled for them. Have had to block several people on twitter for such arseholish behavior.

{Spoiler}You could argue that Unicron is still in Earth at the time. You'd need to have some handwaving to account for why he didn't awaken when the key was being used though and still almost, squint have it fit with the Bayverse.
I agree, I think you could have left Bumblebee dead without too much damage.
I did like Mirage cycling through the alt-modes and giving us the F-1 car briefly.
This is the time where I would have liked some ancillary media - a tie-in comic/novel to flesh out the Terrorcons.
Yes, when Noah was in the suit, I was thinking Nebulan and also Kicker from Energon.
I also enjoyed the score, the subtle callbacks to Vince DiCola when Unicron was on screen were nice.
Hope the film does well, and we get an early 2000's ones to either link in with Bayverse, or absolutely cut it loose and leave it alone and do their own thing.
Interesting that we've not seen Megatron for two full films now...

Well, it would have really contradicted the first five films if Megatron had been running around in the '80s and '90s.
Weird how they made no effort to make Wheeljack look anything like the way he did in 'Bumblebee'. Completely unrecognisable. Martin

{Spoiler}Wheeljack does feel like a holdover from the Bay films with nameslapping.
You could argue Mirage is probably the same though, but for some reason it didn't bother.
It was an interesting omission that in the first film in the cybertron sequence we didn't get a look at Megatron though.

{Spoiler}The timelines are not set in stone, but the implication was the majority of the Decepticons were off searching for the Allspark at the same time as him, the Autobots as well.

I have seen it. I have thoughts. Its good. Edit: Also really weird feeling to have called how the film would play out based on the trailers, but still to have really enjoyed it. That sort of thing usually bugs me too much. {Spoiler}
Prime gets a character arc. thats nice. A break from Bumblebee was also a pleasant change. Mirage was good. I liked Wheeljack essentially spending the film with the equivilant of his Cybertron van mode.
I really really liked that Noahs human drama wasnt kept front and center for the whole film. Yes he has family dramas that influence his actions but I was happy that they didn't feel like they needed to keep the characters around.
The only real negatives I have a pretty minor. Mostly coming down to finding it odd that they chose to make Unicrons minions so similar to 07 Scorponok and Frenzy. I found it oddly distracting.
The final reveal was .... interesting.
and still hedging their bets on to reboot or not to reboot. Probably sensible.

Interesting that we've not seen Megatron for two full films now... Spoiler Based on the line about being from the past and the future Im going to assume their back story is largely the same as the cartoon. The Maximals are from the future and traveled through "time and space" and were living on a planet in the past when Unicron shows up.
When they describe Unicron as trapped its the as expected Marvel comics origin story. The blast destroys his body and sends him back through time where he hides in a lump of rock that will become Earth. On a 4.5 billion year timeline, the 23 years between the transwarp thing being turned on and Unicron waking up is probably if anything too short a period of time.
Or not and the next film does something completely different, but right now they remain firmly on the fence. What they did with Bumblebee honestly felt like the writers were trolling fans who want these to be reboots.

I saw it yesterday afternoon, very much enjoying it. I found it not as good as Bumblebee but broadly better than most of Bay's output. (Though I haven't actually seen any of the previous films for a few years.) Lots of thrilling moments. I hadn't seen trailers, so no expectations. I did find that much of the humans' stories rather dragged. Interesting that like Bumblebee, this is set in the past, meaning that all the films could, still, just about be worked into a cohesive timeline - though as the films have got better since Bay has been less directly involved, I'd rather they made a definitive split. As usual, there's at least one character that either went unnamed on screen or whose name wasn't quite clearly audible, so I was left wondering who they were. I think Battletrap and Nightbird were mentioned once by name, but I didn't catch either; Battletrap I already knew from the toys. There was a line something like "Wheeljack needs to fix that", which I interpreted as the VW needed to go and have it fixed by Wheeljack, as the depiction was so unlike typical versions. (Wheeljack is now the toy I want the most!) I thought Mirage's Porsche looked far more like Bluestreak. His first speaking scene, I thought, "he's the new Bumblebee" - I didn't expect them to actually write him out! Though I'm not surprised they didn't write him out permanently. It still annoys me that they constantly refer to him as Bee rather than his full name. Though, yes, it does now make sense from Prime in particular, with the B-127 moniker. The Maximals transformed so late on, I was wondering if they were going to at all! I was surprised and impressed to see the obscure Apelinq make an appearance. {Spoiler}Was everyone else expecting that card to be for Sector 7? No way was I expecting GI Joe. Unfortunately, this was the one spoiler I'd had. Well, half a spoiler - half a sentence I saw online was enough for me to put two and two together beforehand. I'm not sure I'm entirely keen on the idea, but handled well it could be amazing. Noah wearing Mirage as a suit really gave me that Nebulan armour vibe.
Absolutely. It's actually one of the things that I said years ago would have made Revenge of the Fallen better, with Sam gaining a Hi-Q type role, and it also echoes Optimus wearing Jetfire's dead parts. Curiously, the Beast Alliance toys have much the same gimmick, yet that doesn't happen in the film. {Spoiler}
Yes, when Noah was in the suit, I was thinking Nebulan and also Kicker from Energon.
I also thought Kicker, and reminiscent of Pretender designs, especially Japanese art.

I saw it and still processing. Not as good as Bumblebee, but soooo much better than everything that came before! Even though they didn't get a lot of play, I feel like the maximals were far more respected than they have been since the beast era ended. Certainly moreso than the dinobots were in the previous movies. There was a little girl sitting next to me... Looked around ten, maybe? She was geeking out the whole time, and knew her stuff, too. When Stratosphere flew onto the screen, she came as close to shouting under her breath as she could "...JETFIRE???" It was great.

Finally caught it today. It was...ok. it threatened to be properly good but the scripting fell to bits as it went on. Least worst of the 7 films. The sexism, misogony and racism of the first 5 was gone and it didn't bore me like film 6 did.
It was...ok. Passed a couple of hours fine in the fleapit though I doubt it will remain in the mind much.

I think it'll last at the 14 screen multiplex in town. It's still on several times a day there and they'll be wanting kid friendly fodder for the holiday. If not, no matter. There must be a Blu-ray soon.

Studios want consumers to purchase digital versions stuck within systems where they can be pulled any time rather than physical releases where a customer may pay only once.

Seems effective. A quick digital release is tempting to people who didn't view it at the cinema and reduces the likelihood of piracy, with a later physical release contributing to holiday sales towards the year end.

The only flaw is that if the studios don't choose to make money by selling physical copies, somebody else will. Digital release too far ahead of official physical release - or worse, with no promise of any official physical release at all - encourages the selling of high-quality pirate copies.
