Ep 9: I have seen Predator and Alien before.
Ep 10: A fucking remake and a rubbish cliffhanger.
Overall, SNW S1 reminds me a lot of TNG S1. The wild swings in tone. The quality veering madly from 'this is great' to 'this is bad', sometimes during a scene.
Overall, it grew me on me as it went on and it has potential once the producers figure out what the show is. Pike and the doctor are just great.
It's not essential yet.
Better than Picard (anything would be) but nowhere near as good as Disco.

I initally had it down as the best season one of Trek since TOS, but then realisied it had a massively unfair advantage with Pike and Spock being such a big part of Disco season 2. So Lower Decks maintains its top spot.

Finally got to see it
1) Absolutely love it.
2) I hate this new take on the Gorn. Just invent a new alien if you want to do trek xenomorphs.
3) I'm really not liking their casting for Captain Kirk. Chris Pine went a different direction than Shatner, but he still radiated Kirk. This guy just feels like Generic Starfleet Lieutenant #5. I could not see any of Kirk in him, where as everyone else in a legacy character has been sooooo good.
4) If they wanted a true Balance of Terror, they should have used the same actor for the romulan, as Sarak. Both as an homage to the original, but because I think he'd have been damn compelling.
5) I have a lot of opinions on Hemmer. Too many to express now.

I'm only on ep 3, but it's just more fun. Feels more like Star Trek to me. Disco got bogged down in all that weird timey-wimey stuff and I lost interest.

I've been gradually going through SNW s1 in recent weeks, up to episode 7. Very much enjoying it so far, it's nice to have a live-action show which does done-in-one stories that vary in tone from week to week, it felt like a lost art.

Finished series 1 the other week. Not staggeringly good but it'll find its feet and consistently better than Discovery. It was at its weakest rehashing Trek lore such as ep. 10 and that end of episode appearance in 7. The universe is just bigger than that.

Episode 10 was a masterclass in how a series can undermine both its premise and main character, thus rendering the whole show pointless.
S2 was filmed back to back with S1 so I wouldn't usually expect much difference
...but Picard s2 and s3 were also shot back to back. They were pretty different so we shall see!
I really want to like this show!

I can let the second point go as perhaps there are different species of Gorn or the conditiona of the Arena planet affected the one we saw.
