Can't wait. They proved themselves in season 2 of Discovery.

Rewatching season 2 there were moments when I was starting to think Pike might be the best Star Trek captain.
Really happy to be getting more material on which to base that judgement.
And also more of that bridge.
Like whole bottle episodes taking place only on the bridge.

I will enjoy some more episodic Trek. Trek can do many things that suit different folk.
Not sure seeing Spock during pon'farr is necessary or desirable really. It has been done already.
And was bemused at how DS9 was repeatedly highlight as very episodic in nature and close to TOS in that sense. It has a episodic structure to one extent but is surely the furthest of the pre-modern Trek series from it.

It's a puff-piece framed around press release stuff. The author is unlikely to have watched all 700 odd episodes of TV Trek.

It's fairly mad after the 12-year drought on telly that we now have FIVE shows on the go (Discovery, Picard, Short Treks, Lower Decks, Strange New Worlds). We could even end up with SEVEN.
Given that SNW has been given a full series order from CBS it will almost certainly happen (it's also been announced during 'upfront presentations' week which is when US networks traditionally announce their new season shows/renewals/cancellations). It's worth remembering that Section 31 was only given a pilot script order. Despite the click-bait reporting it was never announced as a full series. So we will see if it moves forward beyond the pilot script stage. It's more accurate to say it is in development.
It's difficult to determine if the Nickelodeon CG kids show has had a series order or is in development, going by public statements.

As someone who has only really been following Picard, are all these new series set in the old Trek universe or do some of them tie in with the reboot movies?

They're all original timeline.
Though just before this announcement, I wouldn't be above a McCoy series starring Karl Urban.
And before Disco was ever announced, I was sure that an Excelsior series starring John Cho was the only way to get Trek back on small screens.
But Trek Shorts, from my understanding could pop into the Reboot universe whenever it wants, though it's designed around using whatever sets, props, and actors are handy, so it's unlikely.

Thanks. I'm a selective Star Trek follower. TNG made me a fan, and I have them all on DVD. I enjoyed DS9 and watched it to the end but gradually came to think of it as an inferior Babylon 5 (rating B5 above any Trek). Gave up Voyager halfway through, never got heavily into TOS, though I enjoyed all the TOS films from Khan onwards. Loved First Contact, but none of the other TNG films. Never watched Enterprise. Tried to watch Discovery when it came on Freeview but missed the third episode and never picked it up again. Watched and enjoyed all of Picard. Can take or leave the reboot movies.

Those photos are from Short Treks s2. No SNW pictures have as yet been released. IMBD is never a reliable source for information. -Ralph

So I have watched the first three episodes and WOW!
This show is going to have to F up badly not to steal Lower Decks crown for best first season.

Three episodes in to Strange New Worlds and I'm pleased to report that it's fun. It's a much more traditionally episodic show to the more serialised Trek shows of today. I like the new crew, but some members haven't yet got that moment to properly develop their characters yet.

Plan enacted, using the Wotsits promo free 30 days.
Watched episode 1 last night. I was pretty underwhelmed. It was ok, but I was a bit bored. Nothing wrong with it. Just found I was unengaged. The visual direction felt quite slow for a modern Trek episode.
The P+ app could use some work. The sound quality is noticeably much poorer than the likes of Netflix of Disney Plus. Playback was also a bit juddery at times.

Episode 2 was better though I can't say I'm wowed yet. Can't put my finger on why.
Pike is very good.
