Sounds positive! My daughter loves Trollhunters, and what little I've seen has been quite good.

I'm just happy to live in a world in which FOUR Trek shows are in production at the same time, especially after the wilderness years!

I just really hope this manages to survive. Nickelodeon being involved terrifies me to no end. No one hates Nickelodeon programming more than Nickelodeon.

True, but CBS seem to have woken up to having a franchise they can really exploit so hopefully have some oversight so Nickelodeon treat it properly.

blog.trekcore.com/2020/07/the-nickelodeon-animated-series-is-star-trek-prodigy/The Nickelodeon series first announced over a year ago finally has a name. Nothing was really revealed about it, but Nick has committed to a two season run. So it should in theory be around for five years! ...If they choose to actually air it and not hoard it like they did Kung Fu Panda and TMNT, that is. It launches sometime next year. For a recap, Prodigy is a young adult aimed CG show about a group of teens to steal a derelict ship.

The title was leaked quite some time ago but nice to have confirmation. At last we're moving away from naming a show after a ship or person with recent shows.

I never heard that leak.
Treks named after setting or person: Deep Space 9 Voyager Enterprise Discovery Picard
Treks not named after settings: The Original Series The Next Generation *thirty year gap* Lower Decks Prodigy Strange New Worlds
It's half and half. But half of that made up it's ground shockingly fast!

And of course the 70's Animated Series was also just called 'Star Trek' on screen!
I forgot Short Treks.

I forgot about the animated series. But i don't think short treks counts as a proper series. It's literally just a bunch of shorts. Like the marvel one shots.

That's...different. Not a bad different, just an unexpected one.
I wouldn't recognize it as Star Trek if you were to just show me that picture. I'd still be interested in it because animated scifi space epics are far too few.

First bit of news that could be considered a spoiler. I don't but just in case. (I no longer understand what constitutes as a spoiler. My sibling yelled at me not to show them the promo image because it's a spoiler)

It's a nice blend of old (tellerite and medusan), peripheral (brikar were only ever used in books by peter david, so after thirty or so years, they're finally officially canon), and new!
But it's not just old stuff! It's old stuff that's barely ever been used before. Old stuff that's not been explored in any meaningful way.
I'm getting genuinely excited.

Edit- Two alternatives links to the title sequence. One of them should work. I can't find an alternative to the teaser that isn't ten minutes of commentary on a 55 second video.

Nick showed an episode tonight as a teaser, just like they have done with the iCarly and Rugrats reboots. Unfortunately, unlike them it was the third episode. Spoiler free thoughts- Unlike Discovery, Picard, or Lower Decks, I did not see anything i didn't enjoy. Also, it is exactly what I want to see out of an animated Star Trek- doing things that are just flat out impossible with a live action series. Slightly more spoilery thoughts (devoid of plot details)- I like the kids, and I think they're well realized. They screw up in realistic kid ways, and they don't think things through in the way kids wouldn't. In ways that come back on them.

Nickeoldoan put episode 1 on their youtube channel. It was ok, but clearly half an episode alas.
