Me: I hate it! It's awful! They already did this one this year!
Cashier: That'll be eighty-five dollars.
Me: On debit, please.

I had the thought that something that would certainly come closer to justifying the cost was if the trailer was a Modulator serving in a godbomber capacity with micromaster base mode.
Im gonna be disappointed now.

I think the intent is that Rodimus is a futuristic hotrod shaped Semi-Truck. A hotrod version of Optimus Prime's vehicle. He's a futuristic camper van. Or a futuristic Hearse, Carrying within it the dead body of the True Prime, with my childhood dreams twisted into a morbid wreath.

I just can't believe he's at the Commander Class price point! I mean, he can't be huge like Sky Lynx and JetSkyfire, that's stupid. So he's going to be a 80 quid voyager!

Someone once tried to counsel me. I ate his G1 Rodimus Prime, with some fava beans and a nice chianti, FFF FFF FFF FFF!

I realise Shockprowl is deranged and has an irrational hatred of anything movie related, but as a toy I like Rodimus. All those first Hasbro designs from the movie have quirks, put them together and they're a right odd bunch, but he's quite a stylish robot and the trailer is chunky and solid and has a nice big clicky gun. He's just missing his own Roller. I really like MP09 too, refines the design. His slender stature is fine because Magnus does the chunky.

For me I’m really going to have to wait to see more of this, because so far it’s not looking at all like it could occupy the same price point as Sky Lynx and seem worth it, so there’s still a lot less to see. And whilst I’d like to see them take another stub at the PottoP Evolution Rodimus that’s not very Sunbow, so I doubt that’ll happen. Most certainly he’ll come with his big RV back-end, but as to what that’ll actually *do*, buggered if I know. All I do know is that where some of the Leaders have seemed a little over-priced and disappointing (hi Optimus), the Commanders have so far been fairly decent, so it’ll end interesting to see...

I honestly don't see how this can be a Commander when even Optimus wasn't. It smacks a little of desperation, of 'well we've got this new sizing, but run out of 'name' figures to put in it'
I'd be happy for this to be dropped down to Leader, have the back of the truck turn into a gun emplacement again and be done with it. I really can't see where this is going.

This: All I do know is that where some of the Leaders have seemed a little over-priced and disappointing (hi Optimus), the Commanders have so far been fairly decent, so it’ll end interesting to see... And this: I'd be happy for this to be dropped down to Leader, have the back of the truck turn into a gun emplacement again and be done with it. I really can't see where this is going. I think is where the crux is. We know things are generally getting smaller for the money and ER Prime is not what we'd really call a decent £45 toy because that trailer effectively costs £20+ on top of what the Voyager would have done alone. So if you take G1 Rodimus and redo that just like ER Prime you could probably get away with it - the repair arm becomes the gun and you get a Voyager Rodimus with a weak trailer at the Leader price. So there has to be something significantly more to this to almost double the price from £45 to £80. I would have guessed that Hot Rod and Rodimus are separate figures in the box, but the figure we've seen does seem to be a hybrid. I reckon it has to be a Hot Rod with Shockwave/Astrotrain type appendages to turn him into Rodimus and a trailer, but the trailer has to have something else about it to justify the price. There's something we don't know yet. Both Commanders so far have wowed us by their size, this one has to wow to sell at the price point (unless they've changed the price point for Commanders) but it can't do it by size because Rodimus has to fit in scale with the others. I just hope it isn't a load of pointless accessories like 86 Hot Rod got. Thinking about that - Hot Rod is slightly more than a deluxe and ended up being Voyager price with tat because of that. Perhaps that tells us it's a figure that was designed to be part of this Rodimus release from the start because it doesn't quite fit the existing size classes.

I see the Commander Rodimus figure as being completely new and probably a little bit larger than the Studio Series - they look SIMILAR but I can't see any parts in common. Scaling the Rodimus up scales the trailer up. But even then I don't think it will quite feel big enough.

On a related note the rumour mill suggests Titans are done post Ark and we'll be moving to two commanders a year at a slightly higher price point with more gubbins thrown in. I can believe this rumour as it'll give Titanish size toys to Haslab

Reveal next Weds apparently EDIT D'Oh! I was making assumptions based on when the photo leaks usually show from TT vs when they put they're new products up..... I did not notice the 10 3 on the picture! Thinking about this... I can't remember the last time Takara did a Generations reveal. So is there a Hasbro TF Presentation scheduled before next Weds?

Again, there doesn't seem to be any shared parts between this, and SS86. There seems to be some shared engineering because Sunbow, but even that looks to be coincidental (unlike ER Starscream wholesale ripping Classics Starscream). The proportions are different, Rodimus is supposedly a fair bit larger in general. Hotrod is considerably more complex than standard deluxes are now. If they didn't have to have that unnecessary arm spinning thing, he'd probably have fit into the deluxe range. His legs are unnecessarily overcomplicated, too. However, he's too complicated with too many moving parts as is to fit into modern deluxe range (though not previous). But not enough to be a voyager on it's own (unlike Primal, who's fairly small, but has a lot of heft, very detailed, and quite solid).
I think that's what's going on here, too. Like ER Optimus, it's too complicated to be a modern voyager on it's own. Though I do fail to see why the trailer couldn't be done at leader. Or why Rodimus has to be an enlarged Hotrod with a tacked on trailer, instead of an integrated robot/vehicle like most people have been asking for since Classics began.
An upgraded ER Optimus into Ultra Magnus with a core class SuperBuggy pack in would have been infinitely better. No, I will not stop being bitter about this.

I can believe this rumour as it'll give Titanish size toys to Haslab I will welcome this, purely on the grounds of running out of space. However I will not welcome this on account of Titans inevitably becoming £100 or so more expensive as a consequence.

I think the trailer will pack a lot of features and also become a base as well as the battle platform. I think the money will be in its play value. The Siege Jetfire is a beautiful figure, but was that really worth the £80? I was lucky to get mine really cheap, but it is just still a big hollowish figure that turns into a jet. Skylynx (that I don't own) does look like it is worth it, because it's big and does lots. I'm expecting the trailer to justify the price along with the engineering on the Rodimus part. But we'll see...

I'd say Siege Jetfire is closer to being worth $80 than "t30" Jetfire was to being worth $50. that one was a complete absolute ripoff.

I got T30 Jetfire for £10 in B&M and still felt ripped off. I got Siege Jetfire for £40 and was very happy with it. It is not, however, an £80 toy in my opinion. Doesn't do enough stuff or add much a smaller size class can do in terms of play features. Great toy for £40 but not worth much more.
Sky-Lynx looks good but at £80 remains out of bounds unless it appears in a sale...which is looking increasingly unlikely!

I think it's just indicative of the way things are going generally. Jetfire isn't an £80 toy in terms how how we define that, but then ER Prime or Shockwave aren't £50 Leaders, 86 Hot Rod isn't a £25 Voyager and Cliffjumper isn't a £17 Deluxe. Those new Core class - £11 for something so diddy.
Times are a changin and we're the old fudsters.
