Well, um, adding a tray is an extra feature for the trailer I suppose. Trays are always the most exciting play features on toys.

Could be way off base, but the tray looks like the primary reason Giant Hotrod can't sink in deeper to properly become Rodimus Prime.

I still think they shot themselves in the foot by choosing this to be the Commander entry.
I've seen nothing to truly justify the pricepoint.
It could have been just as well served as a leader, without blast effects and trays and a giant car with a detachable "trailer."
It's also completely useless for viable repaints, because anything they do with it, could also be done much cheaper with SS86 Hotrod.

Optimus has his hand in the dominant position in that toy pic. Was this subconscious or did Optimus deliberately stand on the right to get the psychological advantage for the photo opportunity.
In the pic where Optimus is on the other side, he's got his hand on Rodimus' shoulder. A way of aligning the hand shake to the neutral power position if the other person is trying to take the dominant.
Who knew these toys could play such mind games on each other?

I really do kinda feel like this is them trying to see what they can get away with.
I also think it's part of a mixed effort to adjust us to a fairly sizable price hike.
It's a tricky call though because some things that don't look it (siege magnus/galaxy optimus) are more or less comparable to previous lines' class, while others (er astrotrain, er Doubledealer) simply aren't.
