I need to see it against the original, before I start to think if theres a sale price I might pay for it.

I do love Metroplex but I don't need this. T30 is fine for me and this doesn't really have a space in my collection. I'm not into the multiverse idea Hasbro has gone with for Legacy, I don't need Prime characters with my geewuners and this random Cybertron addition is just too far out there.
It looks fine, but we know full well a toy like this should be packed with play features and we know this won't be. I know we're dealing with big price rises on everything in life at the moment, but even at £178 from Kapow it's too much for a mainline Transformer.

his random Cybertron addition is just too far out there. I *think* this is the third Cybertron homage in recent years after Galaxy Optimus Prime in Siege and Cybertron Defence Hotshot. A fourth is strongly rumoured - we have the EAN and Product number for it Override in Wal*Marts Velocitron Line

Yes, see I have no need for Cybertron characters in my Generations G1 collection. I'd be up for a Cybertron collection in itself, but there isn't enough for that to make it work.
Actually, would I? I dunno. I didn't go for the Beast Wars figures and they make a nice set now. I think generations works for me because it unifies the scale of G1 and updates the posability. Past that, the originals are fine as they are.

I think it's like what CJ said a bit back; it's a Titan for Titan's sake.
...CJ put it better than that.

What about the characters we see on the box art? I'll check the first few pages incase anyone stated anything. Is the claw on the top a Con character? Menasor had a drill

Here is said Boxart: The claw is part of Metroplex, it's the opposite end of his staff to the buzzsaw thing Kickback is revealed Inferno see the hints & rumours thread which contains a complete listing of ALL the Legacy toys tmukhub.proboards.com/post/455699/thread That's where ALL the unrevealed stuff is discussed Second titan box in a row the Nemesis has been on

I think it's like what CJ said a bit back; it's a Titan for Titan's sake. I almost wonder if it's a Titan designed to kill off the Titan class through poor sales. The only thing that makes me think otherwise is that the Nemesis does keep appearing on boxart which makes me think they must be thinking of doing one which probably turns into a giant version of the G1 jet robot mode

Metroplex has a "cage" in the middle of the arm in base mode It's missing on the staff But you can see it behind the head in work mode.... ... which has the two halves of the staff on each arm and the head spun round. I feel like they've tried, bless them, but Cybertron Metroplex was never going to be a real winner. I've stuck a pre order in with Pulse so I know it's there if I do want it and can cancel it easy enough if I change my mind

The promo pics would help sell the size of this if they had put something else next to it so we can work out the scale.

It's 22" tall, so it's a skoosh under two feet. It's on par with the previous titans.

The back of the box confirms that at one stage there was a slider - on off switch - on the side of the arm leading to the buzzsaw/roptary scoop thing. I wonder what it did?
You can see it in the boxart but it's gone by the promo pics

I think it's still there. Maybe it spins the buzzsaw?

Post by Pinwig on Apr 19, 2022 21:39:11 GMT
I would think so. I was looking at that buzzsaw thinking, if that only spins by spinning the wheel itself with your finger, it would be rubbish. If that switch works like a pump action where the more you pump it the faster and longer the blade spins it would be much better.

I think it's still there. You can see the switch here on the staff thing just to the left of the wheel. By the time we get to the version used for the promo shots it's gone

I am happy about this and like the multiverse vibe. But definitely not on my must have list. Although I got Siege Galaxy Prime and Hotshot so there is a soft spot in me for Cybertron toys... but Menasor, Skids, Jihaxus...so many other priorities in life

I do like that box art - I really like Legacy's vibe overall, but so far the toys aren't quite grabbing me.
Metroplex looks fine, but I can't imagine even paying half price for what it is. IMO the vehicle mode should have been tweaked to make it feel more like a vehicle / base / piece of equipment for other figures to interact with, and it should have at the very least included a minicon!
Really, I think there's loads of potential left in the Titan class, especially if they can let go a bit of their fidelity to the fiction and in particular the cartoons. Titan Overlord with a proper base mode living up the original toy would be amazing.

Think my opinion on this isn't too out of line with other people's. I like that they've done a non-G1 Titan, after all, there's an "s" at the end of "Generations". But two hundred quid is way too much for a figure whose only real selling point, after the nostalgia, is sheer size. Yes, it's much bigger than the original, but it's lacking all of the play features. No Minicon, no Cyber Planet key... it's just big. And I think pretty much every Titan to date has had a smaller robot companion (even if Omega Supreme's was really tiny), so it does feel like they're taking the piss a little here.
For a toy that's more expensive than the Haslab Victory Sabre, it's a definite pass from me...

And I think pretty much every Titan to date has had a smaller robot companion (even if Omega Supreme's was really tiny) Devastator was the only one I could think of so it does feel like they're taking the piss a little here. This almost looks like it's meant to Elmo on them to take out the size class.

And I think pretty much every Titan to date has had a smaller robot companion (even if Omega Supreme's was really tiny) Devastator was the only one I could think of Yeah, but also, Devastator was *six* little robots as well. I'd argue that that one was worth the cost, because it retained the original gimmick. And cost less than this Metroplex. so it does feel like they're taking the piss a little here. This almost looks like it's meant to Elmo on them to take out the size class. I mean, possibly. I'd say that that makes no sense, but then a lot of capitalism makes no sense, so who can say. I wouldn't be surprised though if they keep putting out combiner boxsets... which will also be at the Titans price point. Maybe they just really overestimate the appeal of the figure. Or maybe they'll have been proven to have gotten it right. Who knows..?

The problem they are always going to come back to with later lines is that they already had articulation which has always been the main selling point of G1 based Generations toys.
The secondary reason (some of the time) has been cartoon accuracy. Broadly speaking since Beast Wars the toys and media have been reasonably close.
The tertiary reason at least early on was that there hadnt been a new version of many G1 toys for in some cases over 20 years and if there was a more recent version there was a good chance it was more a name reuse than real update.
We're now at a point were the last one does apply to a lot of post G1 lines, but Metroplex was still on the shelves (I think) as late as 2007. its probably slightly too soon for the childhood Cybertron fanbase to be looking to spend £200 to recapture their youths and if they do an original Cyb Metroplex can be bought for much less.
