I cant help thinking releasing this as a commander class would have been much more sensible.

I find it highly implausable that a company would spend significant time and money on an item for sale with the intent of wanting it to fail. If Hasbro no longer wanted a Titan class for their Transformers line they would just drop it. Size classes have been dropped before.
Also: this Titan isn't aimed at 'us'. It's aimed at Cybertron fans. A different audience.
I agree it is ridiculously overpriced and the lack of play features the original had is not a great move. The price is in line with Hasbro these days though: look at how much they are charging for the new Star Wars palace playset. They've also been moving away from their toy lines having play features.

It's 22" tall, so it's a skoosh under two feet. It's on par with the previous titans. Here's the original with Titan Fortress Maximus:

I was just reading notes from the Hasbro roundtable event that happened the other day and picked up on a few things I'd not seen on here. There's a summary here: news.tfw2005.com/2022/04/20/transformers-brand-team-fan-roundtable-legacy-reveal-edition-454263But some of the salient points related to discussions we've been having are: - Cybertron Metroplex – what was the thought process behind choosing a non-G1 character for such a large expensive figure? Story at first. He mines Energon, play pattern across Legacy involves Energon. So initial trigger for including this Metroplex was story. In addition, toys are still designed with kids in mind so the play pattern and overall coolness of a big construction vehicle was factored into the decision.
- Legacy and ports/connections from past lines present – Metroplex using them? – lots of 5 and 3 mm ports, connectors for city /road connections. Drill Bit – costed out. Core offering in future – possible.
- Can Galaxy Upgrade Prime hold Cybertron Metroplex weapon? Not sure, didn’t have one handy to check. Wheel doesn’t open.
It's also interesting to see Hasbro's perspective on choosing Metroplex as a titan. There's a logic in there. While it's comforting to note that children are still considered when designing toys, which children are going to get a £200 Transformer?? -Ralph

I wish they would let titans go, and do a second commander in it's place. We've got five of the six/seven bots suited for the scale (the four cities plus Omega. The other two being Unicron and Cybertron). Everything else that works as a titan also works as a commander. And with two commanders, they could do one big bot like Tidalwave, and one complicated bot like Ultra Magnus, without needing to sacrifice one for the other. And I think this is more conductive to kids, as a titan is frickin' hard for an adult! They're massive and heavy and awkward to play with, and so hard to move around to transform. It's also much easier to talk Mom into buying you an $80 toy than it is a $200 toy that you almost never find unless you look for it online.
Of course I don't know why I wish they'd drop the class, it saves me money. The more expensive it is, the less likely I'll go for it. An additional $80 toy a year is certainly not in my best interest.

It's also interesting to see Hasbro's perspective on choosing Metroplex as a titan. There's a logic in there. Yeah, there's certainly a thought process there, but it doesn't translate at all into the finished product. If he was meant to be mining Energon, then where are his Energon piece accessories (clear plastic bits)? Why aren't there any on the packaging art? And it's not even like every figure in the line has an Energon accessory either. As far as line-wide gimmicks go this is probably the weakest and most poorly-implemented since Siege...

I've struggled with the original Cybertron Metroplex for years. The base mode is a bit of a "thing" but nobody can really say what it is. Robot mode is OK but not amazing. It doesn't have the character recognition of the previous Titans. It's the first non G1 Titan. It's not the cartoon style Metroplex Titan that many G1 fans, which let's face it are the core buyers for the Generations line, wanted. And it's had a £40-£50 price hike! So it's going to be a tougher sell than say Scorponok and is facing an uphill battle out the gate.
So what it really needed to be was all singing all dancing.
Instead I'm seeing cut features (Drill Bit, whatever it is the switch did), stuff the original did that it doesn't (the wheel split) and not much to make up for it (bit of moulding on the back of the head & ramp connectors)
I really don't think Hasbro's onto a winner with this one.

Through Kingdom and Studio Series, I'm seeing G1 guys shelfwarm more than the non-G1 guys.
It's like people are tired of an endless stream of 84-86 guys, and now that Warden is gone, the TF team can acknowledge other transformers exist.

I wish Metro was Commander. I'd buy it. I'm just... unless they do a Transmetal II Klud, or an amazingly spectacular dinosaur, I just think I'm done with Titans.

I have found that with recent lines, I've been far more thrilled by Beast Wars characters getting toys than the nth versions of G1 I've already owned several times before.
I find myself much more interested in Titan Cyb Metroplex as it feels a lot more new. If it wasn't £200 I'd be all over it.
But I can get a lot of MOTU Origins toys for £200.

The thing about BW character updates is that there's a significant difference between then and the original toys. Even the simple ones like Rattrap.
By the mid 2000s articulation and screen accuracy had reached a point of maturity that modern updates (rather than reimaginings) don't add that much more, or due to budgets even remove features.

By the mid 2000s articulation and screen accuracy had reached a point of maturity that modern updates (rather than reimaginings) don't add that much more, or due to budgets even remove features. Cybertron was almost 20 years ago though. And a brand new update of Cybertron Red Alert may be a sidestep if you have the original, but there are now TF fans and collectors who weren't even alive when Red Alert was on shelves. There are those who may not even know the character/toy exists. There are those who cannot buy the original on ebay. There are also those who sold their's off when they "outgrew" it, and regret it. Updates of RiD and UT aren't necessarily for those of us who bought the originals when they were first on shelves, and never left them behind. As for Cyb Metroplex, him having been suck a small toy was a massive controversy in the fandom at the time. Many UT collectors have wanted a bigger toy for a long time. Just like many G1 fans feel like Scorponok and G1 Metroplex deserved bigger toys. And then got them.
