What we haven't talked about yet is the rumour that next year's Titan is *Cybertron* Metroplex. I mean, what? I think the Ark was beginning to stretch the concept, but to branch out from G1 redos for the first time properly... why pick a big crane? I love me some Metroplex, still my fave Titan figure, but even I'd have to think twice about buying what will inevitably be a £160 redo of a Cybertron toy. There's got to be more to it than that.

It's been long enough for a Devastator do-over , if combiners are coming back...

I missed the first Titan Metroplex and what I would really like is another one of him but one that hews more closely to the G1 toy.

Next G1 Titan needs to be either Countdowns Rocket base Overlord Or everyone's favourite Grandus with a nice big aircraft carrier mode and multiple story base mode.

If the alt modes work as MM bases I'm in, otherwise first titan pass for me!
Coo, look at that. Almost 3k toys since the F numbers began.

As strange as it may seem, the people who grew up on the Unicron Trilogy are just starting to get a disposable income.
And I'm all for deviations from G1 just for variety.

Oh, absolutely. I have little interest in a new version of Megaloconvoy, but it's great that he's there and an option for people that will want him. Of course, if it turns out that he has the actual play features that "base" playsets should be - you know, like launching ramps, a little jail, all that - then I could be tempted... Legacy Logo top left corner I was wondering if anyone else was going to mention that. I can't decide if I love it or hate it right now. It's certainly a different style, which is something...

I keep coming back to this in my thinking. We say it about a lot of things now but I'm not sure I buy it. The assumption that a ten year old in 2003 approaching 30 now has the same nostalgia for the line that a ten year old in 1984 had in 2004 (and still does) I think is based on how we know we felt then, not necessarily on how kids who've grown up in the last twenty years feel now. I don't think there's a comparable connection. Even so, Cybertron Metroplex is pretty obscure even for the Unicron trilogy. If Hasbro are looking for an out for the titan line because they've run out of G1 characters and need a new direction, this seems a pretty weird one.

I think the UT fans are largely quiet. There's not much point in expressing your love if all you get in return are older fans telling you how horrible your favorite toys/characters are.

Hmm. The Cybertron series might be remembered fondly by some grown ups who were kids at the time, but it was certainly not the phenomenon that the original TF line was. And if kids of that era are nostalgic about anything, then it's probably a computer game or something else. That's to say if they are nostalgic at all. Nostalgia might just be something from our generation and be a fad in itself that younger people will not be interested in at all when they are older. I wonder if in the future, we will look back nostalgically on the nostalgic period.

There is the potential here to have some of the most beautiful packaging yet seen on Transformers!
Though if they're going full metal on it, this would have been the time to have hidden messages that require a blacklight.

Obviously there will be fans who grew up with AEC, but how many? Doing Toyfu for so long I think I have a fairly good perspective on where the adult collectors are coming from normally and I still dont know. Even if the numbers are sufficient, I agree, Metroplex is still a weird place to start. I actually really liked the Cybertron show and I can not remember what Metroplex did in it. More broadly starting with Cybertron is weird. It was the end of the line, feel like most AEC fans will lean towards Armada as that will have been most peoples intro. Anyone coming in later than that seem like would still be around due to Bay, Classics or Animated.

My own theory is that they sort of ran out of other options.
Assuming they go down the route of an expanded AEC toyline.
Tidalwave - gonna be leader or commander so that he can combine with Megatron.
Unicron - too soon after Haslabs
Energon Omega Supreme - same as Tidalwave, leader/commander will be compatible with Siege Magnus cab remould as Energon Prime
Supreme Starscream - far far too random.
Primus - probably the most likely alternative of the bunch but again maybe too close to Unicron or something they want to pair up with Armada Unicron one day or still too random for retail. Could see it as a Haslab option one day, but not Unicron sized.

Well... If we're doing a UT titan, Metroplex, Tidalwave, and Cybertron are pretty much the only options.
We just did a giant Unicron. Would *really* piss off the people who spent $600 on it when the following year they offer another Unicron, nearly as big, for less than a third of the price. (Assuming titan class continues, there will be a unicronat some point, but now is not the time)
We very recently had an Omega Supreme. Another year or two would increase that likelihood. But TFA Omega is way higher on peoples want lists.
Then there's Starscream. No one wants a giant Starscream, unless it's Underbase Starscream, and even we are an extreme minority.
Cybertron would make since, since we just got Unicron. But they may want to reserve that for another haslab project.
So that leaves Metro and Tidalwave. To be fair, both easily fit into either titan, or commander. Both were huge. But one of the most common criticisms back in the day was that Metro was more deserving of the supreme spot than Starscream. Metro was massive in the anime, though. So maybe the current team feels this is correcting that mistake?
Though if you gave me a choice, I'd choose titan Metro and commander Tidalwave. Metro is one of the very few TFs that actually works at this class. And makes the second one that's not too big (scorp and max), or too small (everyone else)

We are fans of Galaxy Force in this household, so a Titan class Megaloconvoy is not unwelcome. Not that I'm likely to get it, mind you, for the same reason I didn't get the Ark (space, money) - but it's still nice that they're going with this.
That said, he isn't the most interesting of characters, and whilst he's there in the anime, he's not one of the most memorable. Whilst I am most definitely no fan of Armada, I'd still really like to see a Titan class Tidalwave, just because I think it'd be cool. And they might actually remember to add some play features to his battleship mode. Maybe. But as Bogatan says, they'll probably want to maintain the combining gimmick, so won't do that. I guess time and sales figures will tell whether they've made the right decision.
That said, the logical, ONLY choice for a Titans Return Titan was, of course, Fortress Maximus. And we still ended up picking up loads of those clearanced for forty quid because somebody over-anticipated demand. So it's not always easy to tell...

Those were excess SDCC Fort Maxes, so maybe not as cut and dried as that. Trying to sell an exclusive that is virtually identical to the mass retail release might have been the issue...

A shame. A titan sized Tidal Wave would have made more sense. Imagine a gigantic aircraft carrier to park your Decepticon jets (of any era) on.
