We have heard of this before. Perhaps it is now further along the track.

Isn't this going to be a bit similar to the upcoming Netflix thing though?

Sounds like it, as with these things I'll be more interested when it moves from development to production.

The new Netflix show just looks like the latest in the line of cheap animations, just with the latest level of cel shading and grime. Any cinema release is going to look, move and be staged significantly better.

Indeed. Besides, it's not the first time we've had different platforms (cinema and television) telling similar stories.
It's not the first time we've had the same platform (cinema) telling the same stories (Armageddon/Deep Impact) at the same time.
What matters is how they go about it. "WFC" seems to be the same overhyped and underperforming thing we've gotten for "Prime Wars."
Also, in this instance, we don't know what "animated" means. Is it animated like the "live action" Lion King, only they're just not pretending it's live action? Or is it animated like Megamind, or any number of stylized CG animated films? Or are they gonna hand it off to an anime company? Or a direct release traditional animation like the DC animated movies?

Do you think they'll be a new toy line for this or could be repack of old toys?

I'm sure there's gonna be a studio series subline, and a mainline full of rehashed gimmicks.

I didnt hate it. I was expecting something more in line with the bayverse, but that was more like an Earthspark prequel.

It looks like it will be a better movie than everything from Transformers: The Movie through to Transformers: The Last Knight, so I'm choosing to be optimistic.
Will this become my favorite iteration? Very unlikely. Will I enjoy it? That looks probable.

Think they have pitched the tone right and clearly skewing it younger than any of the live action films, which is a wise choice, but absolutely did fuck all for me.
Sick to death of prequels, sick to death of Optimus and Megatron being mates before things went wrong. Just fucking stop already.

This is pretty much what I expected to be honest. Standard "kids movie" tone, a "here are your super-powers chosen ones" scene, some reprocessed Sunbow story material, along with the "once they were all best friends" that apparently is required for all Optimus Primes and Megatrons now... Felt fairly indistinguishable from the trailer for Lightyear, Strange World...The industry has the process of turning out an acceptably competent and entirely disposable kids film down to a fine art. This looks like it is a perfectly competent example of that.
I think it'll do perfectly fine. They've smartly aimed it at a dynamic that hasn't been served by Transformers theatrical released, I've no doubt they'll sort out the release so it falls into a suitable holiday period to maximise the number of families looking for something on at the multiplex to entertain their youngsters and it will do fine.
In no way does it interest me. Part of it is that it feels quite generic but also, in the same way as the recent toylines, and the issues I read of the new comic, it feels like it is just rearranging pre-existing parts, and that vibe isn't doing much for me.
It is what it is, and I'm sure it'll do exactly what it is intended to do. Just, not really something I'm bothered much about <insert stock Tay-Tay reference here*>

I actually enjoyed the recent Paw Patrol movie. It knew what it was and chucked enough bones and nudges to adults so we knew it was self-aware of itself... but this trailer looks like it is just trying too hard to be funny/cool. Felt very formulaic and will soon be forgotten.

I very much liked the look of the trailer - looks like it'll be fun, and that kids will enjoy it - which is the point, I think. It also looks like it'll be a lot more suitable for kids than a lot of the previous movie output has been - I'll not be letting the Scraplet watch the Bayverse movies for a very long time. But most importantly it looks like it'll be fun. Granted some of the humour in the trailer comes across as a bit broad, but hopefully kids'll like it, and it might not be so bad in the film itself.
Whilst it is indeed rehashing a lot of things we've seen before, that doesn't surprise me at all - I think having a Transformers origin story now without some of these things is like having Superman movie without an escape from Krypton, or a Batman movie without those pearls falling... But just because a lot of these elements are familiar doesn't mean they can't be fun. Cyberverse, for example, had a lot of very familiar Transformers story elements, but mixed them up and had fun with them (well, I found it fun). Also there's the CG Netflix He-Man series - that very much drew from a lot of the older lore elements, but remixed them and created something that was fresh, and fun, whilst honouring what came before. In fact, CG He-Man is the vibe I'm getting from One, especially with the emphasis on teamwork and not a lone, chosen one - and I mean that in a way that's complimentary and hopeful, because I loved that He-Man series, so if One can be like that that'll be a good thing.
I agree with what Andu says about the Megatron thing, though. We've had far too many stories these days - especially in the MCU - where they try and make the bad guy relatable. Which backfires when we end up with people deciding that Thanos had a point... Whilst a villain having a tragic origin story can be a valid source of drama, it's also been done with Megatron - let's have him back to being a bastard from the off. That doesn't mean we can't have an origin story, of course. Again, the CG He-Man show gave us an origin for Skeletor... and it turned out he was always an arsehole. It'd be nice and refreshing if they could go down that route again. But I fear that "they were once friends" is now up there with those pearls...
The surprising element lore element that they're reusing looks to be the return of The Thirteen - I thought that idea died along with IDW 1.0 and the Aligned universe. As one of I think two people who enjoyed those stories in IDW (the other person being John Barber) I'm interested to see where they go with that. And it does explain those rumours of the 13 showing up in the Generations line next year. Looks like the road was being paved in readiness for Warden's return...
What I am looking forward to though is seeing this new version of Cybertron. We've had a lot of big, metallic metropolises (war torn or otherwise) at night, so it's nice to see something new. I especially like what we're seeing of the surface, with all the Cybertronic flora and fauna. So I'm looking forward to seeing where they go with that.
The most important thing though is that the Scraplet keeps asking to see the trailer again. So I think they're winning. And much as I'm loving seeing Bumblebee with a G1-esque battlemask, and not the fuel-cap ball-gag gimp mask he's had since 2007, it's what the Scraplet's demographic make of this one that's going to be important. So fingers crossed...

Well, there have been a lot of movies that were given a very wrong impression of by the edits of the trailer.
The trailer being very generic and quippy does not mean the movie will be that way.

Here's hoping it's following a current trend and it'll turn out to actually be a musical.
