I have all four. (Menasor in the form of optimus). Megatron is almost a head taller than jetfire, and significantly bulkier. Optimus only comes to the bottom of meg's chest, and meg's is only a head shorter than the combined forms.
That pretty much makes the combiners look pretty puny when they're barily taller than megatron. Remonds me of blaster calling devastator a shrimp, back in the g1 days.

This is the best I can do, i have no place to really display them for photos. Angles were really tricky with the three together. Slightly one way, megs looks unnaturally huge, slightly different he looked almost voyager small. But the top of his head is a bit shy of ultra's chin. The bottom of his neck. And Jetfire's eyes are at meg's bottom lip. Change- putting ultra to the same test with megs as i did with jetfire (pressing them belly to belly with the bottoms of their feet level, the top of meg's head is at that small circle in ultra's opened chest. So he's two heads shorter. So yeah. He makes these giants look really small. (Kinda works if they represent maximals and predacons, though)

Those are fab, ta!
My Jetfire looks so much shorter against the Op combiner!

Fascinating pictures, CJ, thank you so much for doing that.
Yep. Megatron is too big. Just doesn't work size-wise in my mind's eye.
(He does actually look really good there though!)

I downloaded the photobucket app, so maybe this'll be easier to do in the future.
The vehicle modes of op and egs scale really well, though.
Oddly enough, this scaling doesn't bother me with armada megs (though i don't have him). The UT era op and Megs, megs was always bigger and/or more powerful, which forced Optimus to go into a super mode to fight him. This dynamic works well enough here.

Jetfire works that big, 'cos he's a big 'bot anyway. But Megatron just doesn't work. Not to me. I wish he was a voyager core. Same figure, transformation etc, just voyager and with combiney bits.
It just comes down to personal mind's eye whatfitsness.

Great photos. Wow. Every time I see actual photos of the Megatron he looks sooooo much better than the publicity pictures. Look at the shine on his helmet! He may be totally out of place with the rest of the range, but he don't half look good by himself. Half the price of Apollyon as an MP stand in?
Stop shaking your head Shockprowl. I know where you are on that. But maybe?

*hides from the truth about CW Megatron MP stand-in*
No no, he's not bad as a MP stand-in, not bad at all. Close. As a close as a lingerie stop without a front window. But no cigarillo.

Right, got mine in front of me now and I can track down what's going on with the difference between what I was seeing here and the photo.
Jetty, I don't think you've got Combined Op Transformed correctly, and that's affecting the height!
I'm not 100% sure what's wrong because I can't replicate the position you've got it in exactly but I'm pretty sure the hips/small robot upper legs aren't right. I think you've got your small robot legs straight out to the sides (you can sort of see that under the waist plate) with the small robot knee at a right angle to the upper leg. The grey hip plates need the slots in the back of them to be locked into the tabs on Op's upper legs. That fixes the angle of the small robot knee and in turn the small robot hip and gives Op nearly an extra inch of height from where you have it.
In turn that means Jetfire's head would fit under the silver radiator grill parts bellow the windows.
With mine the tops of the air intakes on Jetfire's back are very nearly up to the to the top of Prime's head but the top of Jetfire's head is around Prime's waist. Turn the air intakes round and they're roughly level with the Blackjack/Rodimus pegs.
The backpacks of Megatron & Jetfire are pushing them forwards as well making them appear a little bulkier against Op.

Back to the size of combiners vs leaders. Incredibly I a) found the lock slider for my memory card on the bedroom carpet and b) managed to reattach it so here's some not great pics which might help show the size difference. Although the light is a bit funny in both the first one shows Jetfire's head against Superion's chest. I'll repeat this when I get Megatron

The top of meg's head is a bit shorter than the top of jetfire's wing. He's a bit over half a head taller.

Jetfire's an interesting toy: he looks bigger due to the wings and the fast pack but he's actually not that much bugger than a Voyager. And so so light!

Absolutely fascinating and much appreciated size comparison info and pics there, Phil and CJ. Thank you so much guys.
Fascinating stuff. It has cemented my belief that Megatron, and indeed Jetfire perhaps, should have been Voyager. Or Ultra! (in the case of Jetfire). What's happened to the Ultra size class?! Seems modern Voyagers are Ultras.
One thing I will say, the more pics I see of that Megatron the more I like him. I like his face/head sculpt. I like his chest. I like his cannon. I like his Alt mode! I don't like his legs, no no no. And I don't like the way his arms connect to his body, those big red bar spacer things. Otherwise, yeah, good Megatron toy. Even if he is too big.

I honestly feel Jetfire is about the right size. A Voyager would have been too small.
The toy, animation and comic all make him bigger than Prime. Prime is a Voyager so Jetfire must be bigger.

Last two posts are right on the money. I'm right with Shockers on Megatron and right with Phil on Jetfire.
Where some toys in the past had odd sizes and do work better as voyagers (Blaster's a good one), Jetfire has always been a whopper. Suits him.

Yeah it's a good point about Jetfire, chaps, he was always a big'un.
And I'm sorry to bang on about it, but yes, Megatron should have been a Voyager sized combiner core.

True though. When you look at that picture with all the Megatrons in it's clear this new one is one of the best Megatrons there has been, but at the same time he's redundant in Combiner Wars because he's too big. Very frustrating.

Gods, but that head sculpt is even better than the Masterpiece. I'm getting one. Although I *may* have been swayed ever so slightly by that picture of him being posed next to Tailgate. Just maybe...

My problems with jetfire being a leader is he's such a cheaty and problematic mold. All the design issues would be easy to overlook if he were a $25 buck voyager. But a $50+ buck leader, he's not worth it. Megatron (as a toy) is also problematic, but I feel he's a better bang for the buck than jetfire.
A huge problem is, both of these feel like scaled up deluxes. There's literally nothing on either of these molds that couldn't be done in a deluxe toy. When I spend $50 on a toy, I do like to see some things, engineering, and details that can't be done on a deluxe. I'm not asking for RotF Optimus, mind you. But looking at leaders of the past, even ultra simple ones like from Animated, these don't compare.
All said and done, Ultra Magnus looks like he's more worthy a toy of this class.

What difference does it make what line Megatron comes in? It says Combiner Wars on the box and yet doesn't combine! A non combining toy feels a poor fit for the line. IIRC a computer listing for this toy was found some time before it was announced. I'd like to know if there's been some sort of behind the scenes delay with these Leaders and they were all intended a year earlier: Jetfire with the initial T30 launch, Megatron start of last year when Starscream and Centurion were on the shelves which are a decent fit with the Armada version of the toy.... Hang on. CW Legends Thundercracker and Windcharger don't combine with anything either and the sky hasn't fallen it. 'Combiner Wars' is just the umbrella title for the current retail TF line that isn't based on either of the two cartoons currently running. -Ralph
