Going to try not to buy everything next year. I feel we've heard this before... I swore I would cut back this year but I clearly haven't. Certainly far less current stuff but a lot of back-dipping. Need to be a tad more focussed in 2024. -Ralph

I haven't bought a much this year so far, but all that means is that the wants list is longer than ever.
Perhaps buying as much but only through sales is the answer. I'm missing not buying older stuff because trying to keep up with the current is harder. Also, MotU.

Yeah, I've bought less current stuff, but that just means I've been spending the money on Micromasters and TR/LG. I suppose that's a balance of a sort...

Kingdom Gears, Polar Claw & the extra Fossilisers never got product numbers: they were on the artwork but cancelled way before production. I've spent 25 minutes wracking my brain for an example of something non repack that vanished and the best I can do is the Velocitron Hot Rod repaint, which we've even see packaged. But it's quite clear Behind The Scenes stuff happened with Velocitron w2. Gears is coming, almost certainly Legacy Uniwhatever wave 2. Polarclaw got replaced by Tigertron because the new team preferred it. I recently read that the fossilizers were created by the imagination of the artist, and were never going to be a thing. I thought read that in the wiki, but now I can't find it. So, grain of salt.

We've heard that before, too... As for me, I've been able to stick to my buying less, mostly aided by the fact that the figures just don't spark joy anymore. They're competent and well executed, for the most part, but that's it. Just filling in missing character holes now, really.

That's increasingly true. I think I've gone back to TR because of the play pattern. Little robots that interact with the bigger robots in like, three different ways (head, driver, and small vehicle/gun operative), and you can mix and match, the bigger bots can form base modes (something that might also explain my Micromaster collecting)...
Legacy has Evo-Fusion, where you can sometimes put two guns together to make a bigger gun.
I do like Legacy's Sunbow accuracy, but that only holds me for G1. The Beasts, Energon... I'm not interested enough in the small gains to just enjoy them without the gimmicks, I guess.

I wonder what sales are like of the non-G1 generations figures compared to the G1 ones; if this feeling is a general trend.

I really hope they aren't bad, I'm glad these newer figures are out there, even if not for me.

Because they've gone through most of 84-86 enough times that some of them are on their third or fourth takes, while avoiding the late G1 stuff that are awaiting their first proper toys (nightbeat) that actually interests me, currently it's exclusively the non-G1 stuff that excites me. Another deluxe insecticon that's just a repaint of a "regular" insecticon that doesn't even look like him is just a checkmark for me. And it's nothing compared to the thrill of a brand new comic accurate G2 Jhiaxus, a brand new Armada Starscream, or even airazor repainted into BWII Skywarp.

It's funny, just this week I realised even though this year is just 2/3 done it's already got the most new purchases I've ever made (aided by some successfully selling off of older stuff), but only a tiny proportion of them are on current releases. The older stuff with gimmicks or just straight up charm (I've filled out my Fuzors ranks a bit in recent months...) definitely spark more joy for me as Llama God wisely put it, and I've also found some joy at the other extreme with the MPG Trainbots. This also really resonates with me this year! I've filled in some TR/Legends gaps, but also dipped my toes in Diaclone Reboot. Not something I can afford to get really deeply into, but the Tactical Mover subline is a nice compromise. They're an interesting mix of high-end and poseable but with play features, and a surprisingly high fiddle factor. The new stuff which most appeals is the mad repaints, I jumped at getting Toxitron Grimlock and Sideswipe but even so will probably wait for sales on any of the others.

They do - look Pinwig, Gs!!!!!! - but I'm looking at all this info together and thinking what a nightmare this will be to move to threads when the time comes. So excuse a few posts while I split this all up.... ... done. If you're able to direct replies to the individual posts for each series and confine the replies to that series that will be useful down the line. Yeah, I know, herding cats....

This looks like mostly repaints & remoulds. Slipstream maybe not (Windblade?) and I don't have an obvious source for Quake. His TR toy was good but not quite Quake. Galvatron - Megatron Core Rock 2 - Core Rock 1 Sideburn - Shadowstriker Motormaster - Animated Optimus, as before. Another Botcon exclusive ticked

Lots of grouped numbers for each assortment and, PRs & Soundwave aside, a relatively continuous run for the range.

Is a Deluxe op potentially the Core one with extra bits? Trying to imagine what. Won't be the trailer - having sold it with Op & BB in a boxset for the price of 3 Core the trailer ain't going to be a pack in for the dlx price.

Yes the trailer would be too much for a deluxe. Does that set have a Roller?
