Well at least it's not Universe 3. United 2 is extremely confusing but not as bad as Universe It's okay, in full it'll be Transformers Generations Legacy United, so much easier to disambiguate, as long as everyone uses "GLU" consistently. Which we're already not. Oh. |

So the Legacy gimmick was see-through additional weapons (or giant hands). Evolution was "evo-fusion" ie "bugger all". What will United's gimmick be?

Seeing it visualised like that is very handy - it's going to be a cheap year for me, which is just what's needed. Although I say that and then 1000 other exclusives will appear from nowhere...
But it'll be Windblade, bread van Wheeljack, Silverbolt, Exillion (Hot Shot), Slipstream and Filch. And I think that's it. Maybe Vector Prime if it's a decent mold, and those Optimii, and the Rock Lords, if they are indeed Rock Lords. A cheap year.

I'm less sure of the Leader Optimus TBH. That could be Earthrise back again or Legacy Laser Rod or something new. No indication where it's from. The thing that makes me wary if the rumours that the Studio Series Commander next year will be an 86 Optimus Prime. But it is the 40th so there could be a fair few Primes next year. I won't be surprised if RID or Energon Ops are in the mix somewhere at some size With a bunch of Cybertron in the pike, and Hasbro hinting strongly that Cybertron Optimus is on the agenda for a do-over, there are strong odds that's it. Unlike Armada, not only can he be done as a leader (his super mode was not that complex), they could probably reuse the cannons and wings from the Siege version to cut costs. Powermaster Optimus is a pretty good candidate, too. Honestly, unless it's a repaint of Laser in movie colors or Actionmaster colors, I kinda feel like these are the only reasonable candidates. |

They'd get me with a good Powermaster, I think. If I were Hasbro, I'd be holding that back for the Haslab runway though.
I've got the Super God Ginrai that Legends did, and I like it a lot, but a more stable chunky version... Yeah, that'd get my money.

It's an interesting looking list. I can't decide if I like the scattergun approach or something more tightly themed. I suppose at this point Hasbro don't really have a lot of choice. I think this shows they don't have faith in anything other than G1 to carry a line by itself. Even Beast Wars got peppered with other stuff. Where's Armada gone?

40% themed (beast wars, armada)
40% G1 (bonus points if it matches the main focus)
20% everything else.

One question, though: Are we sure that the Star Seekers Lockdown is that Lockdown, and not the movie one..? Not been a Movie toy in Legacy yet and Axelgrease is begging for a Lockdown repaint. I won't be surprised if RID or Energon Ops are in the mix somewhere at some size Well I would say I'd be surprised if they reissued Earthrise Optimus with his tiny trailer, and put out a Movie commander with a larger trailer, whilst at the same time Takara are putting out the Missing Link Prime... but given how many Primals got released this year I think it's probably a fair bet that that's exactly what will happen. |

Hasbro can't win. They do mostly 84-86 focussed lines over and over. Fans complain. They do lines mostly G1 but with more post 86 characters. Fans complain. They mix things up a bit. Fans complain. They do new characters. Fans complain.
We just don't know what we want, which I why I am just content to see what comes out and grab what catches my eye/fits my budget.

I think in these cash strapped times the pick and mix approach is much more wallet friendly. I'm glad I don't feel compelled to buy everything anymore.

I think in these cash strapped times the pick and mix approach is much more wallet friendly. I'm glad I don't feel compelled to buy everything anymore. I realised around TFN that I had basically have stopped buying new toys. I got SS86 Ironhide and Snarl and G2 Deadend. Deadend got opened as I did want to finally complete Menasor, but Ironhide only got opened tonight. 5 minutes later I was bored with it. Snarl will likely last longer, but still. On the other hand the random shit Im getting from Japan Im finding far more entertaining. |
