I am deeply saddened by this.

Quality restored in this week's VAN DER VALK. It appears the bad incidental music last week was a one-off.
What a cast in this episode: Julia "The Brothers" Goodman, Freddie Jones, Patrick Troughton and William Russell!!!!!
Nigel Stock needs to bugger off though. I had hoped he was in just last week's episode.

Constant 'join the navy' ads on TPTV at the moment. I'm not sure the channel's audience is the target market...

App may be coming. Source: this week's channel email:
"Due to overwhelming requests to provide a service without adverts and better functions, we are looking into the possibility of launching an Encore mobile and connected TV app. The launch will come with a lot of new features like; fast forwarding and rewinding content, bookmarking your films for future viewing (i.e. if you decide to stop watching a film, you can pick it up from the place you left when you log back in), no advertising before or during films & much easier user accessibility on televisions and mobile devices. This new version of the service could be available via a small monthly subscription fee of £5."
They'll get my money!

Interesting, interesting. But I doubt I'd watch TV through an app unless it was an app that appeared on the tv itself, or the virgin box or a Playstation or something. I don't want TV on a phone or tablet.

It will be an app on the TV. Like all the other apps. On the tv.

That'll depend on whether the device you're watching on is updated with it or able to run it at all. Plenty of incompatibility issues with this kind of thing and older devices.

SPACE PATROL has been on my list of shows to see but never got round to it. Hooray for TPTV! -Ralph Surprised by the very high production values for the time. I was expecting sub-Anderson quality in that respect, but it's not. The stories and characters leave me cold though. -Ralph 5 episodes and I am out. Of historical interest, but the characters and stories are too bland and dull to keep me watching. -Ralph

That's interesting. There's a hell of a lot more of Z-Cars existing than Dixon, I wonder how much of it they'll show and from what era.

I hate to say it, but as it has continued I am coming to the conclusion that VAN DER VALK S3 is not a patch on seasons 1 and 2.
It is not just because of Nigel Stock. The show has lost a lot of its' bite. Valk himself grows ever more cuddly. Previously, he felt like a proper mad bastard who could do anything....anything! He was mesmerising to watch. Now he is...nice.
The weird dark quirky stories have given way to ones which are...ok. Was there a change in creative staff?
S1 and S2 were outstanding slices of tv though. Truly original.

VAN DER VALK continues its Frieberger-like descent into shite in s3. The last one was a 'comedy' episode. Even Barry Foster looked like he couldn't be bothered.
Hopefully it will pick up in s4.
TPTV also showing HAMMER HOUSE OF MYSTERY AND SUSPENSE. Not as good as HAMMER HOUSE OF HORROR. Each episode seems to end with a ludicrous twist that makes no ******* sense. Shame. Nice to see Bernard Kay in the most recent one.

'The Professor' was a return to form for VAN DER VALK. Now that is the weird quickly style I have been missing. Broton, Garok, Jeff Rawle and Geoffrey Palmer in the guest cast! Barry Foster noticeably perked up.

Unlike the first two seasons, which ended in ways that the show could have concluded satisfactorily there, season 3 of THE BROTHERS ends on a cliffhanger. I suspect the producers knew they were on to a good thing by then.
Season 4 starts next week and...COLIN BAKER.
