I've got three of the of the others, and they sit nicely with the Masterpiece Grimlock, so I will probably get this Swoop just to round those out.
But having handled both the POTP dinobots and the neon-coloured upscaled KO's I would agree that they are better. The Swoop in particular has a much better transformation, and a much nicer pterodactyl mode than the rather janky looking alt-mode on this version.

I've honestly been disappointed with Snarl and Swoop's Dino modes, there does seem to have been a change in designers or design ethos as the line has gone on. The last two have been... almost clumsy , when compared to what Slug and Sludge have done. New Snarl is wide and flat, when his Steg mode should be taller and thinner, and I get there are things that you just can't do when you're trying to stick to the animation model. But there should have been a better compromise. Swoop, obviously, I haven't held, but from the pictures his 'dactyl mode seems way too thick even compared to the cartoon.
I didn't like the POTP Dinobots either, the compromises for a wholly unneeded combined mode ruin them for me.

You know, I kinda like this... Between the "claws for hands", the saw blades on the wings and big rocket boosters they almost feel like some sort of 90's "X-treme" character. The sort of 'bot whose name would be Ripwing, and half of their dialogue would be "grrrr"...only given the saturday morning cartoon treatment. Honestly, I think this is both the most "extra" and most entertaining Transformer toy I've seen in a while. Which I mean as a compliment to them. Karl |
