DWM finally turned up today... along with someone else's stuck to the back of it. Usually when that happens the address is close enough to go and drop it off, but this one is just too far away, so I'll have to put it back in the post tomorrow. Frustrating knowing someone else will be just as annoyed about not getting their ish as we are, but it'll be a while before they do and there's not a lot I can do about it.
Meanwhile, SFX turned up too, boasting a spoilerific cover for the upcoming DW special. What the buggering fuck have they done to the Daleks now!?

Oh we knew about the Daleks a while ago. They are also visible on the BBC promo artwork they've put out for the Special.
Someone needs to have a polite word with Chibbers!

I assumed as this is a magazine cover the new design is a known thing, I've just not been interested enough in the special to follow what's going on with it so it was a bit of a surprise.
To be fair, I don't think anyone could redesign the Daleks without criticism. Impossible task.

It's just the one from the new year special painted black, isn't it? Anyway I believe tgere's just ONE of those and the rest are all normal, so I recall from the location photos on the Severn Bridge

To be fair, I don't think anyone could redesign the Daleks without criticism. Impossible task. The redesign done for 2005 onwards has been quite popular. I personally loved the 2010 ones and was sad they went away almost instantly. At least Chibbers is actually promoting the Special as a Dalek story this time, unlike last time. Let's hope it's back on Christmas Day, when everyone could do with a bit of escapism after 2020, unless that idea is too exciting for Chibbers. -Ralph

This month's DWM now 4 days late. Guess I'll be buying in a shop again. Last month's was 21 days late...

Interesting... mine was on time this month, with a note in the editorial apologising for last month's lateness. Magazine subs do seem to be erratic. As said, my 2000ADs have been all over the shop for the last few months. Very late. Sometimes I've only had issues once they've gone off sale in shops.

I am not sure what firms are handling the subs distribution for various titles, but i can only assume there will be delays from printers to them and from them to whatever mail service they use.

When I had the 2000ad sub it still turned up on time. RM are struggling a bit with the extra load of late.

"The girl is a Time Lord. One of the ancient enemies of the Great One. She is to be held for sacrifice at the time of Arising!" This week on Forty Years Of Tom Baker's Doctor we're watching episode 547 State of Decay: Part Four 40yearstombakerdw.blogspot.com/2020/12/547-state-of-decay-part-four.htmlChristmas Break now, 40 Years of Tom Baker's Doctor is back 3rd Jan with Warrior's Gate Part One! I also realised in reliving the past I ought to be having a look at the DWM issues of the time too. #48 went on sale on Friday 40 years ago. That's a unique issue in my collection because although DWM was delivered by the local newsagent, that issue never arrived and I had to get a copy from a central hall comic mart years later Oddly, I remember #47 arriving through the letterbox. I was off school ill at the time and the Troughton cover has always stuck with me because I remember Mum giving me the issue to cheer me up.

Everything else turns up. Voting with wallet and cancelled sub. It's a lot less stressful just getting it when food shopping and the mags don't have big rips in them too.

I'm really intrigued by DWM's claim they're giving away a new and exclusive Target novel. Surely not a full blown TV story novelisation? I know they gave away Target books before, but that was just a warehouse clearance exercise. A proper new Target book? I would be really impressed by that. Seems fishy to me. The only TV 20th century story that hasn't had a novelisation is DIMENSIONS IN TIME... -Ralph

Hmm. Yes.
...
I was more hoping perhaps more than seven had been commissioned and DWM have snagged a spare one, a new series episode. However I can't escape the feeling there's some trick to this.
SFX used to do a lot of cheap paperbacks as freebies though. It's not impossible. Oh unless this is another £10 issue, that would cover a paperback.

Could it be a reissue of THE PARADISE OF DEATH?

I see the Smiths bookazine line has been rebooted into a series examining 'landmark' years in the series, starting with 1965. Which is nicely vague enough to avoid saying whether this is going to cover every year, or as many as the series manages before the buyers get bored and they try something else. merchandise.thedoctorwhosite.co.uk/doctor-who-chronicles-1965-bookazine/Do I need any more of these? Year by year is more appealing than some of the mad themes they were doing with those books but I dunno if I need more on the pile.
