Hmmm. Themed year books could appeal to me. There MUST be a 1986 edition.

I'm really intrigued by DWM's claim they're giving away a new and exclusive Target novel. Surely not a full blown TV story novelisation? I know they gave away Target books before, but that was just a warehouse clearance exercise. A proper new Target book? I would be really impressed by that. Seems fishy to me. Going by OG'ers who have their subs copy it's...just preview chapters from the new Target books. Glad I am a subber. Would have been pissed to pay an extra 4 quid for an advert. -Ralph

I suspect a bit of a backlash, also once word gets out will it impact newsagent/superrmarket sales?

How fantastically disappointing. Claiming that is 'new and exclusive' is naughty. I was really lookig forward to that. The wallchart better be good then, but yes, paying for promotional material? That's bad.

Folk who have it say the wallchart is very nice but to be careful opening it as some have torn.

Yeah. This is all shite.
DWM posters mostly come on thin stuff that pretty much tears in half when folded. Mine had a hole at the central fold point before I'd even opened it. It's a double sided poster with (at a quick glance, may be wrong) the original Target covers on one side and reprint versions on the other.
The book is indeed marketing bobbins. The only thing remotely interesting is that the except from Pirate Planet has a preface that says the Target version is based on the televised version of the story and Penguin's website says it's 'all new'. For a minute I thought that might mean Goss had rewritten parts to make it more Target styled, but having flicked through I don't think he has. It's just heavily abridged to remove anything that isn't directly plot.

Picked up the 1965 special in Smiths. Looks a more interesting read than the last bookazine line had become.

It's fab. I didn't bother with the previous Bookazine line but I'd buy more of these year-based specials.

I see from this month's DWM that the next 'years' bookazine is 1975.
And also that the McGann movie to now is just as long as it was between An Unearthly Child and Silver Nemesis.
(But that doesn't matter because years were longer in the 80s).

Agreed. The first one is one of the best ones they've done for a long time (Dalek comics special aside, a very different beast)
And adding a preorder option is a result given recent difficulties obtaining them both in shops and online

If you wait a month, Smiths is always overflowing with them. They just don't get the first run. Mine had armloads of Dalek Chronicles and still has loads of 1965 books.

New DWM day. Editorial mentions plans to bring the comic strip back are afoot. A text story by Joy Wilkinson starts next issue in the meantime. Hooray. I don't think they've run text stories since the NA 'Brief Encounter' tie-ins?
