HEY! TEACHER! Leave those kids alone and stuff!
I've tried! With gut-wrenching enthusiasm! BUT SHE SEES THROUGH IT!
SHE KNOWS! SHE KNOWS SHE WILL NEVER NEED TO USE IT AGAIN!

Kids in my class would be able to tell you what both of those are and how they use them in maths and computing lessons. I should think when we were at school variables would have been in the computing curriculum but probably nowhere else, but algebra was definitely in my maths GCSE.

Algebra was in my GSCE, but not variables, from what I remember. I couldn't tell you what a variable was at the point, either way.

Hmm. Yes. That's one of about six different domains for maths teaching.

What are domains in maths?

They're just the way the different areas of maths are grouped into themes for teaching. By the time you reach the Primary tests in Year 6 there are nine domains, for example 'Number and Place Value', or 'Fractions, Decimals and Percentages'. Algebra is one of those.

While Martin was over for a very fine Indian lunch at the Biplob we put him to work loading boxes into the car and unloading them at Liz's Mum's garage. We are VERY grateful for his assistance While I was waiting for them to return with load two I did some measuring with Evar shelves You can get three Evar shelve widths across the back wallyou can get two up the first section of wall, one against the injutting buttress halfway along the walls, and two more up the sides - however the side facing the bungalow has a window in this section so we may need to be clever. I didn't check the front wall but I think you can get one shelf width either side of the door I now have a feel for the storage capacity of the garage Meet the Garage

It was just called 'Maths'. -Ralph
