Square pegs in round holes there?
Smells like a "make it up as you go along - tie it in somehow to the -ation series without any substantial reasoning"

I also see that as of #8, the human characters Sarah and Bridge have been MIA for four issues, the Witwickies for three, and the Other Nations Of The World for two - despite every one of them having scenes that indicated they were important and would do stuff.
It got annoying when Furman would only give one or two pages to a group of characters just carrying on in the last three -ations, but at least they were there, it didn't come off like the writer had forgotten about them.

I was just thinking about the Witwickies earlier. Do you think we will return to any of those characters?

I...I...I...I'm genuinely SHOCKED! Against my better judgement I picked up issue eight...and I actually enjoyed it!!! Get this, STUFF ACTUALLY HAPPENS! The story ACTUALLY MOVES FORWARD!!!
Of course, it's little consolation that everything that came before could have been covered in 2-3 issues tops and this should be what happens in issue 3 or 4.

I'm pretty sure Hunter wasn't introduced earlier in the mini, which makes the cliffhanger a bit confusing for anyone who has used the series as a hopping on point. I'm also a bit uncomfortable at the degree of /nastyness/ in the last page, less on an 'oh the Decepticons are evil' but more 'that's a bit far'.
I'm also really unsure what Sunstreaker thought his plan /was/
All in all though a much, much better issue than the rest, but really this should have been issue 3 at the most.

It does look a bit gruesome, there does seem to be a lack of a limb.

Yeah, as much as I am glad something is happening, it is a bit /too far/ I think. Did they really need to gouge the eye out of an established human character?

Someone got their eye gouged out in a Transformers comic? Really?
I thought the blood from Focus On Decepticons was removed from All Hail Megatron issue 1?

The last page of AHM 8 has Hunter (his first appearance no less) in a Decepticon torture rack with only one arm and one eye with wires and tubes everywhere. It is pretty grim.

Huh.
I am confused. I thought AHM was supposed to be a jumping on point for new readers. So, suddenly, eight issues in characters/plots from older IDW comics are thrown in and said new readers are expected to understand what's going on?

Pretty much.
I am half-and-half about that move. Part of me is glad they've stopped ignoring past continuity (this started in issue 7/8 so that makes sense to have had the time to change according to reactions.
Of course it means its a bit of a shock to new readers (if it even managed to get new readers, I have a feeling it pretty much kept the same readerbase). Also it suddenly doesn't stand on its own, but rather requires knowledge of what has gone before. Even if Sunstreaker's motivation was planned that way from the beginning, in 7 issues the only reference to what happened is a very very vague conversation in 1 or 2 pages. And the cliffhanger to 8 relies on us knowing who Hunter is and what he looks like and what the deal with him is, otherwise it is really random.
So basically I like stuff that refers to past continuity, but think it should be self-contained with enough information for the casual reader to pick up motivations and plot points. Or you risk turning into the X-Men.

I tried to get into x-men, but I got the comic after some house of m stuff happened, and everyone was so sad or angry about it but I had no idea what was going on lol. Batman & Judge Dredd are easier I don't think any of the fangirls I know, will like how sunstreaker has been used they really love him, almost as much as starscream....

The only X-Men I've ever got into was Grant Morrison's run. And that was (guess what!) because it was a self-contained run and didn't require me to read eleventy-billion other X-issues to work out what was going on.

Same here. I find most x-men comics to be interminable bollocks but the Morrison run was tops. Only time I actively collected an x-men comic.

Some curious approaches here by IDW for AHM now and makes a mockery of their stated aims really.
For me I read a lot of the Claremont era X-Men but I'd certainly say that Grant Morrison's run is one of the high spots in X-Men comics.

Well, the two main criticisms of AHM have been 'does not fit with previous IDW material' and 'not much happens'. With prior elements coming into AHM without apparent foreshadowing and the plan to do AHM Coda, it's possible editorial are paying attention to the first complaint. Looking at the sales, it looks like it's pretty much the same audience buying the book as before anyway. It's possible IDW are playing to the fanbase and giving the customers what they think they want.
Either that or the editor and/or writer doesn't have a clucking clue.
All conjecture on my part based on comments here. I'm not reading AHM.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with your assumptions, Ralph. I do applaud the fact that they are now trying to rectify the situation, it's just a pity we had to put p with seven issues of Sunbow fanwank first.

I read the vol 1 collection of issues 1-6 of this last night. I can quite happily say it was... well, crap.
The intro by the writer clearly indicates why and his personal childhood preferences reek through the story rather than the story either building on those or using them as simply an interest hook and then writing a more substantial/grown up story from that.

Basically its that he loves the Sunbow show and wishes the bad guys won at least once (waaaahhh!)... and voila AHM #1.
He then admits it didn't quite work out as wicked sweet as he thought it would. So I guess that makes AHM #2+.....
He gives a slight nod to the fact that TF media isn't all Sunbow but comes on the page as well.
Strangely enough I have been working my way through the Sunbow show after picking it up cheaply and found it far more entertaining, interesting and value for money than AHM which I got out of the library for free.
