Multiples of the same toy cannot be counted (e.g. a Pretender Bumblebee and another Pretender Bumblebee).
Individual Micromasters, the likes of Scamper and Fasttrack, individual Mini-Cons can be included.
Weird merchandise/tat Transformers shouldn't really be included (things like Decoys, Robot Heroes, Attactix) but you can if you want. But you're only cheating yourself.
Custom toys/kitbashes cannot be included because they aren't items available to anyone else on a large scale.
If you have any "female" Transformers toys they should count as "negatives" against your total.

Ahurm, Micromasters and mini-cons should count as they are official individual Transformer toys. Ha ha! So I counted them. Ish. No idea how many TF's I have, must be around the 100 mark.

Too many. I tried a rough count of G1 toys upto the end of the US range and its about 200-300, but about a quarter of that number is made up of Micromasters and more from toys best described as junkers, in some cases I only have about a third of a figure.
One day I need to make a full list, but I guess my total is double that figure or more thinking about the state of my bedroom.

Dammit, I've worked hard for years reducing my collection from something in the nineties to its current level, at which I can better appreciate the ownership of each individual toy, but all that work still leaves me in the same category as I started with in Graham's poll.
Respect to Gav for beating me to the title of most sensible-sized TF collection for a semi-well-adjusted grown-up.

So is my TF collection. Nearly all of the G1 stuff (just missing a few Pretenders - Bugly, Iguanus & Splashdown) as well as all the Mini-Spies bar the yellow dune buggy). Of course a lot of the white toys are slowly going yellowish. Most of the Beasty era but have been more picky during the Armada/Energon/Cybertron/Live Movie etc.
The Alternator/Binaltech/Masterpiece are my favorites in my collection at the moment.
I also own Animorphs and some Star Wars TFs and will no doubt own a couple of Marvel ones when I come across them.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with your numbering system as well, Graham. A lot of my Micromasters were individually packed and sold (the combiners- all 36 that I own) so I feel a Micromaster has a right to be counted individually, and counting female TFs as negatives is discriminatory to eHobby characters. That said I'm disturbingly far over the threshold for your last category however you count them.

I haven't taken any pictures of my collection since leaving my parents house (about 12 yaers ago) and my collection would have at least doubled by then. One day, whenIhave a house big enough to display them all at once I'll take one (or two).
I wonder how much space it would take to display every single TF toy? I wonder which convention would be the first to attempt this? It wouldn't have to include every variation (ie Ratchet with and without a cross) but it would be amazing to see.
Something for Auto Assembly nextyear mabye Sven/Simon?

Seriously, though, it's not about how many toys you have but how much appreciation you get out of them. I have too many in terms of my space, but I do like them. Some get a fair bit of play, some every now and then and a few are mostly display pieces. Some are bought mostly because of a fondness for the character (especially if a character featured in Marvel TF comics). From time to time, I have a cull of ones that don't do anything for me anymore in either of those categories.
Partly due to finance, partly due to space, I buy less frequently than I did in the past. So I tend to appreciate newer items more and have had less buyer remorse, ie that feeling of 'I only bought it because it was a Transformer and I had the cash', which was a phase I went through during Armada. Incidentally, I got shot of most of my Armada toys!

I haven't counted mine, but I reckon it's in the 101 to 200 scale. My collection has balloned in recent years thanks to loads of over time and folkes like you guys getting me into Beast Wars and so on! Mrs Shockprowl has sworn vengence against you all!

Interestingly enough - I seem to be the only one in the 201-300 range. I know I have at least 200, and if I try real hard, I can always dig up one more - and I maybe have more than 201... definitely less than 300... I'll be going through the collection in the next couple of months and seeing what stays. I'm more inclined to keep figures/re-issues from the original line with a few examples of later lines. Need to slim it down a bit before I consider what newer figures I may pick up. I noticed the other day there were several figures that had not had much attention and needed to go.
I'm inclined to refocuse on legacy items/re-issues.
